Elf Army - WIP

Hello,

I'm starting a new project with one monk Elven Alliance files. I'm doing the army mainly for display, and because this is a new thing for me, and I'm always interested in expanding my hobby horizon.

My plan is as follows:
1. 3 x 10-men Archers
2. 2 x 15-men Swordsmen
3. 15-men Blademasters
4. 25-men Pikemen
5. 8 Cavalry
6. 8 Heavy Cavalry

There's no gaming consideration when making this composition. I'm just thinking the unit I want to display, and how they will appear in a good-looking and neat formation.

Unfortunately, I found out too late that these elves are pretty difficult to cut. My first miniatures are the archers, and my first cuts were a little wobbly. Fortunately, I'm getting better with each finished mini.

Here's almost all archers done.

A close up showing... uh... the result of my unstable hand.

This is my first time using a hobby knife. Previously when building scratch-built terrain I always use cutter with retractable snap-blade. I wish I found that thing earlier.

Finally, here's my work area. You can see bunch a book on the corner, including some mangas, novel (in fact there's an Icewind Dale novel there...), 40k codex. On the lower part is some boardgames.

I'm really having fun cutting these out. As each miniature done, I'm finding better and more efficient cuts. Sometimes I still slip though. :'(

Mind your fingers! Real blood doesn't add realism to the figures in the long term

Cutting does get easier once you get used to the figures themselves. I do recommend changing the blade when you break the tip off. I have found cheap blades so I have no issues changing blades after two pages of figures.

Now I really feel I need to design some more troops for these armies. So many things to design....

Jim, you actually have designed enough for a core army. You only lack in heroes and a warmachine to round it up. You have basic infantry (2 types), long range attacker (on foot & mounted), elite infantry (3 types with distinct usages; defensive, offensive and unique one), 2 fast mover (medium & heavy armor). After the core is finished, you can add more funky extra units, but feeling okay if you don't want to since it's basically done.

Sorry for making what seems like a request, knowing your health condition.

I've finished with the archers, and now went on to the cavalry (a little bit sick with infantry lol).

This is my knife. The blade is not as angled as #11, so I'm having some trouble with the small details.

Nice work on the cavalry, some of my all-time favorite miniatures ever there.

Yeah, a different blade might help your wrist. Those short beefy blades like you have in the picture is what I use for chopping out foam-core and heavy matte stock, not figures.

I agree about your assessment of the Elf Army too, just a few heroes and a war machine (chariot?) and they'd feel even more than complete.
