Finger and Toe releases Omega Prime Core set
« Thread Started on Apr 10, 2012, 11:29am »

“Sarge, I keep hearin’ scuttling. Are you SURE there’s no bugs here?”

Corporal Ivanov heard the telltale sound of the sergeant’s teeth chomping on his cigar prior to barking a response, followed by an equally telltale scream–and then another, and another, and a last more high-pitched.

“Sarge? Juan? Nguyen? Jane?”

Finger and Toe Models announces the release of Omega Prime: Core Set, a baseplate-based system for creating interiors for space ships, space station, ground installations, and underground complexes for your 28mm sci-fi commandos and explorers. Using the base-plates, walls, doors, and props, the system relies on restickable glue for its enormous flexibility and replayability.

When you’re done playing, strike the set. Pull off the flat walls and doors and stack them with the base plates. The other props (wall consoles, debris, pipes, etc) take up very little room.

For a slide show go to http://www.fingerandtoe.com and navigate to 28mm sci-fi structures.

Remember, every Finger and Toe model comes with SMOOSH ASSURANCE: if ya’ll smoosh any part of your Omega Prime: Core, a new one waits your summons from hard drive and printer.

Omega Prime: Core is available from http://www.rpgnow.com or http://www.wargamevault.com for $6.00.

I just looked through the slide show, and I'm impressed. It looks more like the interior of a real submarine than anything else I've seen. I like the fire and smoke. The only problem in real life is that smoke rapidly fills the whole interior of any closed space. There were a lot of fire drills we had to do blindfolded.

Have fun!

Reminds me of X-Com: Terror from the Deep alien submarines.

Yeah, I thought about smoke's qualities, then decided a humungous smoke counter wouldn't be that cool. (That plus the plugin I use to generate fire can do smoke with just a teensie tweak). Could be smoke pots? (See the ex-bureaucrat trying to twist things around?)

I never thought of a submarine, even though I've been through the Russian "Skorpion" down in Long Beach (gotta go back with my new camera). Much more cramped than I thought (even I couldn't sleep in those officers' bunks). I was Air Force, so the only thing we had like it on my base were the missile launch capsules--and most of us never got any closer to them than the Officers Club.

Thanks for the kind words--actually, thanks to all.

The photos of the actual builds look really good. They're a much better representation of the quality of your work than the cg previews.

So true, when I saw a finger and toe build for the first time (thanks Gilius) I was amazed at how great the textures were, the renders had never grabbed me, I just didn't realise what I was missing (reminded me of the new star wars movies.... too shiny) I downloaded my first set and discovered the entire catalogue, it was like Christmas. Love the sets, particularly the flexibility and the encouragement to build new things with it.... the same sense of satisfaction as scratch building something unique, but all you need to do is arrange it.

That's my goal. I began texturing my own stuff with Microtactix' old "whites" which led me to Photoshop, then scratchbuilding expansions for Mel's stuff which led me to 3D modeling.

My view is the models belong to the builders--to play with and modify as they see fit.

You've hit that target spot on :), when I download a set it feels jsut like opening a good multi-part plastic kit, you spend the first hour putting together the standard set ups, then you work out how many pistols you can get one man to carry.
THe beauty of this is that once you've assembled it it's a finsihed product, no painting needed.

After 27 years of gaming I was trying to put my finger on what your sets were reminding me off, then it hit me, it's triggering the same synapses as lego. A huge array of elements that you can really go wild with. Be honest, if lego had textures like these, then would any other sort of scenery be required? Love it :)

I just picked up PIPELINE this weekend. The WORST thing about Glenn's bigger sets like this is that with most sets, like his Radar Array, you build it and it's done... with the sets like this, Tango Prime and so forth, you build a little... then some more, and some more... you could go on forever... (like my posts). ::)

You really could, just looking at one of the smaller sets like Lima the possibilities are ridiculous.

I love the modular sets. They give you a flexibility of building: Have two hours? Finish a couple more tiles and struts.

Since Gilius showed his Slagtown builds my fingers are itching to build it, but my monthly allowance for games has run off (I keep it so you all don't bankrupt me). Glenn, how about you put all Slagtown sets on a discounted bundle? That would help keep my next month allowance under control.

Thanks for the kind words. The Slagtown sets are old, so a discounted bundle isn't a bad idea. Maybe after I get the new Kvartira bank out.

Very nice to see a new corridors set. I love your additions... the pipes were a great idea.

I like the slide show presentation and how you provide objective ideas. Makes me wanna try your Core system with GunCrawl v1.

And definitely a fun system for use with FRAG by SJG.

Hey Glenn, I just got this set today and I noticed that it downloaded as two seemingly equal files, differing only in file name. Is there any catch or is that some problem with the DriveThruRPG download system?

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I figured I just did something when I downloaded it... but didn't think anything about it at the time.

I updated the original file and forgot to delete the original. Oops, crud. I'll fix that later today.
