Here is what I have been up to. I wanted an air transport aircraft for my paratroopers and here is what I came up with. I wanted something more primitive looking than Topo's wonderful but high tech Chicken Hawk. It is meant to be a little odd looking. A military functional look. It will be getting large vector thrusters on each side of the main fuselage and possibly smaller ones on the engine pods. What you see here is a white test model. It will get a lot more detail and textures(colors). The markings will be a combination of American and Russian aircraft. The tail is based on an American WWII fighter. I don't use 3D software, so making changes is very time consuming. The basic shape is pretty much set now. I just need to add the doors, windows and color it and also figure out the thrusters.

And you're able to achieve results like this just with pitagora, some geometry and (obsolete) tech-drawing tecniques? Maybe even on a real "drafting table"?
Very good vehicle. I think the shape of the engines is a little "too techy" for the vehicle shape (having read what you are aiming for)... a sort of today Jumbo engines could have worked well, but i understand that it is hard to draw that kind of shape. Looking forward for the textured version.

Will the doors be behind the engines? Or will the paratroopers have a critical die roll to avoid being sucked into the engines? LOL
The body seems to have an obvious place for a door right in front of the massive engine, which would have an obvious disadvantage for paratroops. But military vehicles usually have at least one thing they didn't consider when they design things.
Looking forward to seeing the textures.

When I learned to do drafting, they were still using those ammonia vellum copiers. Does this make me obsolete?
It will be a four door model. Two in back and two up front. I imagine the front doors used as door gunners or as more exits on landings. I may add some random small bulges and antenna on the frame that military aircraft all seem to have. What I'm going for is an ugly flying people eater.

oo, oo ... bulgy bits
Why is it that we all like to put those on things? I guess it makes me feel creative when I can put things on in my own way, as opposed to putting them on where the instructions say to.
I'm sure this will be very popular. Your 'antiquated' way of doing things seems to work well. Back when I was into model railroading and had access to a drafting table, I made some interesting buildings and accessories. I think a lot of the digital designers would be surprised what they can do with a drafting table and some paint.

Great model! I really like 3D paper models that stick mostly to prisms -- in my opinion, they are easier to build and more robust than unfolded 3D models.

Nice model Tommygun, reminds me of CR-20/25 troop transport in Starwars.

Just looked it up. They do look a bit similar. They both have that flying brick look.

Hey some of us are very partial to the "Flying brick" look, gives it a retro feel .

I also like the flying brick look to, makes it seem powerful and sturdy. Also very resource heavy to construct and power. Very military.
Looking forward to seeing the finished version of this.

This is a test model, so it is pretty rough looking. I have had to tear a few pieces off to glue them in different places so you may see torn paper. Those pods on the bottom house the landing gear in the back and guns up front. They will get stubby gun barrels in the front too (two each side). The landing gear will be a wide landing skid/ski type. The wings will be replaced with something much more robust and the engine pods will rotate on the short "wing" tips. It will have a rear ramp which I failed to draw on the test model.

This wouldn't, perhaps, be some sort of asteroid mining vessel, would it?
Have fun! Steve

I don't think that was the original intent, but I think it sure could be used that way. Like a Space C-130. The Moon Hopper is probably more for that purpose. I still need to build one of those. On the To-Do list.

One side done. I still need to design the retractable landing skids and landing gear doors. Also the gun barrels and optional air brakes/ flaps. There will be an optional small bubble nose too that extends out about one cm longer. I have a lot of clean up and small changes here and there on the png files before I can put it into pdf form. Well I'm happy with it. I have my little brutish killing machine. I'll post more picture once I have it all done.

Thanks.
I'm not done yet, but I just added the air breaks and I liked how they came out. I had to cut an angle out of them as they were rubbing against the hull. It will need several changes on the pdf, but I like it. It's an option part if you don't want it.

I hoped to be done by now, but I contracted a Summer flu bug. I can't seem to operate scissors while on flu medication. So I did do this much over two days. Added Nose art and Guns. Sounds like an Indie band.

I like the idea of nose art on this vehicle. It really makes it stand out.
