Modular SciFi Building this Time. Last week someone posted a picture of theses buildings designed by an Italian designer by the name of Nume over at Ebbles web site. I liked the look, so I thought I would give them a try. They will be stack-able like plastic cups the way some of my other buildings do for better storage. Here is a test build. One side of the roof will be all solar panels and I like the little sky lights on the originals. It's about 6inches (15cm) wide which I think will work well when clustered together. So anyone interested in this guy?

Looks really cool! It's easy to seek a bunch of these as a small sci-fi settlement or military camp.

WOW excelente!!! Do you use Gimp to make textures

Sometimes I use gimp to make textures, but I usually get them from cgtextures.com and just use gimp to change them. The large tan wall area started out as a very small white stucco wall section and the solar panel was only 1/8th the size it is now and lighter in color. Gimp is really made to modify pictures more than making something from scratch.

Door and window design. I based them on that new building coming out by Micro Art. They still need to be blended into the back ground. Attachments:

Will you be doing a 'Lunar' theme on these, too?

And by the way, thanks for the cgtextures.com link, I didn't know that site and it's simply fantastic!

Oh yes, CG textures is a great resource.
I'm not planning on any other versions. I'm hoping I can scale them to get about 8 slightly different sizes so they nest inside each other. Each one would be about 1.5 percent difference in size. I may do a greenhouse version as the 9th unit?

Like I said over at Mel's, this is looking really cool.
I like the greenhouse hab unit you did with the freight containers, so a greenhouse in this set would be cool too.

Well I have my ink cartridge back in and two test builds done. It all looks well. Next I need to figure out how much to reduce and enlarge the units to get them to stack inside each other. I want to do one or two with a really large door too.

I decided to do a mod of the greenhouse as an all metal building. It will be in a separate pdf. Attachments:

I have a suggestion for the bottom flap, the "ground" tab-
I have seen here and there that for wide walls that may tend to bow or warp, if you have a tab like this you can make two horizontal score lines and fold it into a long triangular rail inside the model, then glue that itself to the wall. The Rio Draco buildings do this, to pretty good effect.
I don't know how much this might mess up your nesting idea, but it might add a bit more stability than just the flap resting on the ground.

They look great. When this is all done, I'm going to have an oddly shaped sci fi village to raid.

Well I think I can have the first pdf ready by later tonight or tomorrow. I do have a few things to get done this weekend though. The triangle idea is a good simple way to solve that problem. I'll have to keep that in mind for future projects. I did do something a bit similar with my Moon Hopper's spine. A small triangle tube is surprisingly strong. On this type of building it wouldn't be practical, as I would have to make each unit about 10% smaller or more than the last to nest inside each other. Right now there is a 2% difference and they still look OK next to each other. The smallest is about 12% smaller than the largest.

I used Gimp to insert photos into the background. I spent a whole 20 minutes on it I think. Just having some fun.

You are a true master of what you do! Can I call you the Picaso of Papercraft? My favorite is still the hovertank pictures you did with TOPO'S YELLOWJACKET! Sheer magic!
Ok... the triangle tab, great idea! I will steal ... um, I mean "use" it in the future (just like I did SoloSpirit's combination of magnets and paperclips that allow moveable and interchangable turrets on models)!
Ok. I think I have addressed every item mentioned in this thread... bar one. Where can I get a copy of that hover car? That is freakin' awesome!

I just think these have to be the most useful structures I've seen in a long time. I think they fit extremely well in desert scenarios, but I put some trees and things around, and the color balances for forest also. I wish my computer would handle an additional program, but it can't, but sometime down the road, I plan on doing an Arctic White version to be used in Arctic and Lunar scenarios.
Talk about transportable scenery that looks phenomenal and sets a mood for gameplay ...
Thanks
