Hey, I just had an idea and I thought I might get some feedback from you folks. I haven't discussed it with Nik yet, so he might be saying, "AARON! What are you doing!?" What would you guys think of holding a paper modeling convention? Perhaps One Monk could host such an event. We could have all the major players, publishers, modders, and fans come. With some good marketing it could be a great way to get the word out about paper modeling. Then we could show off our work, play games, and come up with strategies for how to take over the rest of the gaming world with paper minis. ;D Plus it would be really cool, for whoever could make it, to meet up and hobnob in person. Maybe such a thing already exists and I just don't know about it yet. Let me know what you guys think.

That sounds great! Here is a link to the international paper modelers con they have in Virginia every year in October and a link to their forums. Some pretty cool stuff there. I didnt know about it until you mentioned having a con so I googled it and it looks pretty cool. Doesn't look like much gaming, just serious modeling. ;D CON: www.ipmc-info.org/WEBSITE: www.papermodelers.com/

Sounds like a nice idea, just a bit too far for me to pitch in I'm afraid .

"AARON! What are you doing!?"
That actually sounds really fun but I worry about the attendance (we are a niche inside a niche I'm afraid). I wonder if we could piggy-back on another con and have our own little area for 'paper stuff'. This way we could get those people that haven't heard of paper minis introduced to the hobby. That's just one of my suggestions. I think it would be good to get other input.

I'm in, as long as I don't have to go to NYC. A con someplace in the midwest? (LA's too much to hope for )

A con someplace in the midwest? I was thinking combining it with something like the Gama Trade Show in Las Vegas.

A con someplace in the midwest? I was thinking combining it with something like the Gama Trade Show in Las Vegas. Oh yeah! Brandy, good cigars, showgirls, slots . . . oh, did you say there was a con, too? Well, Las Vegas would get the Mrs off-campus, away from her Luddite dean, and jolly well eliminate the showgirls. I'm so in (Vegas is "just" up the road from me, at least the way we westerners measure distance).

That's a great idea - but there's no WAY I'm flying over to the US in order to attend! I've often thought about running paper-based demos at regular wargames shows. The SFSFW often run demo games at some of the shows I've been to in the past (Rob Martin's games are a real hoot!), and these promote the society pretty well I think. I even thought about going along with CDs of my own figures/terrain/etc. in order to raise funds to pay for the table or whatever. Of course - I never got around to designing enough of my own stuff - but the basic premise seemed OK. The other unfortunate thing is that most wargame shows happen on a Sunday here in the UK - and I'm not available on a Sunday. Oh well - good luck in your endeavours! DaveA

It would be probably impossible I suppose to organize such an event that we all could attend, as we are so spread around the globe, but we've got to start somewhere I suppose.
If we decide to show up at GAMA or elsewhere we won't hesitate to let you all know so that all who may could come and support it.
If anyone wants to organize something in other parts of the world, or show up at an existing convention, let us know and we can work out some official representation. I can't promise we'd be able to pay for it though, so you might have to be very dedicated to the cause.

Ok paper con sounds super. The only thing we need now is an intercontinental beaming device.
