Hey folks, I was talking with a friend the other day. We were discussing making a card game. The BIGGEST thing is the artwork. I said if you had a large database of images, it could be fairly easy to do. I was thinking about that, and as I started my Lexicon of Forum Hoard files, it hit me... WE have a HUGE database of figures right here. OK! (Here's the pitch...) I was thinking that using a card game engine I came up with a few years ago, I could make a GREAT game. Here's where you come in... ANYONE interested in this product (that will be a FREE download for EVERYONE here) reply here or send me a PM. Think of this as a "KICKSTARTER!" I need authorization from the artists (if a re-color/re-mod, I would need permission from BOTH parties) to use their images on the cards. It would be a simple, yet fun game, and completely FREE!! I figured that since the images are all available for free downloads, then I don't see where it would be a issue for anyone. Regardless, I would not consider using ANY images without permission. Also, since this is a Forum project (meaning it is for the Forum Members, by the Forum Members) all cards will show the artists names (as they are on the figures themselves) to give the artist all the recognition they deserve. I was also thinking of adding the Hoard number to the card, showing where it can be found. Right now there are about 8 cards I can use (because that is about what I have submitted). Here is what I would like to see: "Kil, you can use my --- figures from Hoard --" There are SO many different types of figures available! This could be a great set, and very diverse. I have some down-time obviously, so I need to do something to occupy this time... in between projects, and this is the best way I know to keep sharpening my skills. NOW, IF this somehow violates any copyright that Nik and the crew have, then I will forget this (and make my own personal version that will never be seen here). Ok. Feel free to offer your figures to the chopping block! I was also trying to think of a clever name for the game... like: [glow=red,2,300]THE HOARDS[/glow] Ok, it needs work... Thanks for your attention! David (BTW, did I mention I was planning on offering this as a free download?)

Also, if Parduz (for example) would say I can use the counters he made, these will act as effects... The cards will be: CHARACTERS GEAR EFFECTS Also, certain CHARACTERS will have special abilities, depending on the figure. These may be: RANGED ATTACK MAGE (Magic User) FAST ATTACK (First Strike) Some skill will give certain figures (like Dwarves, for example) bonuses. Other skills will allow you to bring in certain figures into play from your hand. Other skills will allow you to return a card from your discard pile to your hand. Each type of card will be a different color, and there will be different races, and armies. This is only in the planning stages, but it will be a LOT of fun. ;D

NIK WROTE: Sounds like a great project. It could be fun to see what comes out of this. Today at 5:04pm, kiladecus wrote: Think of this as a "KICKSTARTER!" As a note of interest, every HOARD set has been released (and will continue to be) under the Creative Commons License 3.0. As Jim put it in his original Hoard Guidlines: "free to copy, share, modify, but not for commercial use". Basically what I'm getting at is that you don't 'technically' need the submitters permission if it is going to be free. You do however need to attribute the artist. Now it could be considered a douchee thing to grab someones work and not tell them. (I don't worry about you K-dog. It's just if someone else comes by and reads this.) ____________________________________________________ This has potential to be a lot of FUN! I won't use anyone's work without their "OK" first. I would feel guilty about it. I would love to have Tonsha (for example) say I can use his stuff, because I have plans for "TONSHA, DWARVEN KING" and the "GOLDEN MINOTAUR."

WHOO-HOO!!! Thank you SO much, my firend! ;D I can at least make some cards using your figures and mine. Maybe that will draw more attention to this by other artists!! I know one thing, your Fairies/Pixies and Thri-Kreen are going to get a LOT of use!

Great !! You can use too the mushroom and moss elementals and other minis in my projects. There are a healer (female) a warrior (female) and a golden soldier (like a greek soldier) based in a Big Jim sketch, a panther made for afet, an octopus (paul octopus , two vine elementals, the halloween messenger and two AT286. You can use the hoplita soldier too

All my work is CC BY-NC-SA. It means do what you want, give me credit, share alike.
Most of it is recolors/mods tough, so the original artist have the final word.

Thank you, Tiago!
I would love to use the Greywold figures, but I have NO way of contacting him... not even sure where to begin (aside from trying his website, but who knows about that).

I think the only thing I've done for the hoards is backs. I don't suppose they will be needed, but if you want them, they are up for grabs. If I have done something besides a back, that is good to go too.
Good luck with this, seems like you have a lot on the go!

A funny thing, i was thinking the same things a few weeks back...make a card game that is easy to play, so i can use it for my students.
what game type will you use. i.e. pokemon ... one card out and some on a beach, something like "Magic" many characters or like the star wars game, where you have three areas in this case, space, ground and characters.

I guess if you were to compare it to another cardgame, it would be a combination of: 1) MAGIC: The Gathering (The "best" and most successful card game ever) [MTG] 2) BATTLETECH 3) Space Quest Some of the highlights will be every player represents a WARLORD, and they have a CITADEL full of warriors (This is your deck of 60 cards). You have 7 cards in your hand (I need to come up with a cool "term" for this... like your "Reserves"). Each turn (instead of having manna or some elaborate way of generating cards) you will lay down "X" number of cards, or cards points (some cards will have higher point costs, depending on their skills and attributes). There WILL be some cards that allow you to bring in multiple cards in your hand (i.e. "When this figure comes into play, play ALL Elves in your hand"). I am going to have each race (Elves, Dwarves, Undead...) have it's own color of cards. This will make it simple. Since there will be multi-langual players, I am going to *try* to limit the amount of "words." This might be better to, if there are younger people playing it. Each character will be given three stats: 1) Attack 2) Range (Either "L" for "Long" or "0" for none) 3) Defense I need to come up with an "ACTION" graphic. If you play MTG, they use the little 90* arrow. This means, "TAP" or turn the card sideways to show you are using it. In this game (which I am thinking of calling it "FORTRESS," or "HOARD CITADEL," something like that), you can use people with range as snipers. They can either attack someone in close combat and get their FULL Attack Value, OR activate, and do ONE damage to the target. If you have MULTIPLE ranged attack characters, you can have them ALL focus on one target, and combine strength. Want to bring that big creature down, have your archers combine fire and kill it! There will be Necromancers (if I am able to use some) that will let you bring a card from your Discard Pile to your hand. This will cost some of your "Casting Points." Meaning, if you can spend "5 Casting Points." then the Necromancer may have a "use" symbol with a "3" (for example) on her card. You say, "I am spending three points to resurrect '----" and it cost two to play, so I am using my last two points to play it. I am sure some characters' abilities *MIGHT* resemble cards from other games. If this were to happen, it is purely coincidental. I am just working on a game that I would LOVE to make, and I am bringing you all along for the ride!

Thanks, Dragnoz! You know I am going to jump right on using that "Miss Ma'am" figure!* (Now, that's funny, right there)! Seriously, thanks to all that have given me the go-ahead! I am not sure what CC NY... and all that means. I will have a section at the bottom of each card that will say the artist's name (or 'handle' in most cases. I know that Parduz prefers "Parduz" instead of "..." at least here on the forum). I have gotten a better reply fro you than I thought! Thanks a lot. This is VERY exciting. *- [Not that I need to footnote this, but it's me]. This was a joke between friends. I am ONLY using graphics that were part of released Forum Hoards.

LOL well you downloaded the dusted off goblins and you would have seen i have a new CC BY-NC-SA license on the free stuff im i'll be doing. It basically mean CC - Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike... so free to use for non comercial purposes (unless consent is given) as long as the work is attributed to the creator and that others share their work as well... creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/thats actually a decent site and it allows you to create your license and gives you the code for your website and images and the works...

Ok... I have to get back to the Lexicon now. This is my motivation to get that done now. I can filter out Reivaj, Hackbarth, Grendlesmother64, Kiladecus, Dragnoz and CowboyLeland and thesea re the figures I am "allowed" to use without fear of ticking anyone off. ;D

Thanks, Jose'!
I am on Hoard 70 at this point on my Lexicon, and so far the only thing I have seen that I can "use" at this point is Hackbarth's "Brass Golem," but it is a mod of Tonsha's Golden Minotaur.
I still have nearly 30 more hoards to go, and since these are more recent, then the chances of people still being here are greater.
SO, we are still "in business," so to speak!

So, just to clarify... a game could run a little like this... Player one has 5 "Action Points." In order to play a card from your hand, look at the GREEN number in the upper right-hand corner. If Player One wanted to play the Skeleton Lizardman, he could, and have 3 points left to play something else. Player Two also has 5AP ("Action Points"). She can play the THRI-KREEN WARRIOR with one point left. If she was holding both of these cards in her hand, she could only play one or the other. If Player One attacks Player Two's Citadel, and she blocks with the THRI-KREEN WARRIOR, the "bug" has "FIRST STRIKE." The "bug" would deal 3 points to the LIZARDMAN... killing it. The LIZARDMAN wouldn't even get an attack off... Just an example...

WOW!! Today JUST got better. BIG JIM just told me that I can use any/all of his work since this is a non-commercial venture! That brings us up to having over 500 figures to work with! ;D Now, I just have to get a little more time in the day to hammer this out! Anyone else want to join the band-wagon and give me the "go-ahead?"

Hey KILADCUS - use what you need from the Hoards, just bang on the creator credit May be nice to add a website link to each artist somewhere too, maybe not on the cards themselves but maybe on the game homepage (if you are making one) or something...

Thank you, Darkmook. Great idea! Also, OkumArts gave me the go-ahead. Big Jim said I can use ANY of his stuff (which is like 75% of it) as long as Nik doesn't care. I am excited about this... I just have to find time for everything I have going.

Replying to your email, yes you may feel free to use any Imperfect People you wish in your planned game. On a side note, I've already downloaded your wizards and used a couple of them in my regular Saturday night roleplaying get togethers. ;D You apparently have more energy than I do, I still have a half-compleed set of soldiers to go wih my Knights of the Inquisition (4 polearm men, 4 swordsmen, 4 crossbowmen), and an uncolored set of 6 Lumbermen for a woodland encounter, and a set of odd villagers (including a Weird Cat Lady, and a Drinking Man wearing only a Barrel). I'm afraid I live in a third-world country where I have no Health Care (the United States) so it's been a long recovery. I've still been visiting the forum, but making very few posts since I haven't gotten many sets out this year. Good to see so many new artists keeping up with the Site's fine traditions in paper figures. Dryw the Harper

Thanks, Dryw! I wish you a speedy recovery. OkumArts, Adam Souza, Darkmook and now Dryw have joined the fight...well, kind of! This will free up a LOT of Zombie-slashing imperfect super hero holiday figures to use! (Since Dave only contributed to the Holiday Hoard... but I was WANTING to get that Yei into the game)! Thanks fellas... as far as "energy," I spread myself out WAY too thin... I have about 6 projects in the works, and NO time to finish most of them in a speedy fashion. This is one that I want to do for fun, and have a nifty little game in the end. Using paper figures as playing cards, a 2D map program for making 3D models, a spreadsheet program for lay-out... YES, I think I have officially crossed the line of sanity! (Or at least proven that I can think WAAAAAY outside the box). Ok... Let's go to the Lexicon and see how many MORE figures just got freed up!
