Ok, so I decided to start a new thread just to give you heads up about the upcoming monster packs. We were going to release it all in one pdf, but it was ginormous, so we will probably be breaking it up into two separate downloads.
When they are released you will need to head over to http://sanitystudios.com/bellicose/paperMinis to pick those up. We haven't set it up yet to download our files from onemonk.com.
Trust me, you won't want to miss these Monster Packs! They contain by far my best work to date. Including one piece in particular that I would go so far as to say is a masterpiece for me. Namely we are putting in one rider to go along with all the monsters, and he turned out really nice. Take a look.

WOW!!! GREAT!!!!!
You may don't know this, but while i've still to draw anything, i do a lot of critics (just to be constructive and useful in some manner)
So, this is what i've seen after i've been able to close my mouth and stop drooling: 1) That kind of shadow on the thigh armour give the feeling that the thigh is thin, that there is not so much muscle... 2) As he is riding somewhat big (a dragon?) the legs should not be seen from the exact side (as he having the knee touching), but in a sort of 3/4 view....
now searching for cover....

Sorry about that, it's back up now. I was starting to have second thoughts about posting the preview.
I think you may be right about that Parduz. sometimes I get so focused on how things look up close I forget to take a look at the bigger picture to see how it looks more macroscopically. I may adjust that, or I may not. I guess even if I just shaded that part a little differently it would probably make a difference.

Bear in mind the size of the preview..... the actual mini will be a quarter of the size. It's an excellent knight, lovely artwork. Maybe a tiny hint of highlight on the rear of his thigh to make the leg stand out.... it's well proportioned when you look at it properly, it's only a 'first impression' that it's a bit thin (due to the armour being lighter coloured and standing out more than the trousers). And at figure scale, probably won't even be an issue! I'm seriously looking forward to the rest. I've just worked out how the assembly will work.... that's really clever,he'll fit on anything won't he? Inspired

He looks great, and I'm glad to see people are still experimenting and inventing new types of builds. There are still discoveries to be made!

I do it the hard way of course. I use photoshop with my pentablet. I get my line drawing done on paper, scan it in, and then use photoshop to do the rest, including the backside.
I just get a nice black line drawing done, and then paint on a separate layer underneath the drawing so I don't mess up my lines.
I hope that answers your question.

The images weren't showing up so I poked your post a touch. Will there be side-views of the Bison-riding Orcs? The concept sketch and is pretty cool, but I'd prefer it to be a side-view.

Yes they do look nicely painted, I'm always torn between doing it in GIMP and restricting myself to 2 fixed poses as the time to colour would go up by factor of 2x or Inkscaping them and living with gradient fills colouring once and then bending and adjusting as many versions as I'd like...plus that saves on drawing something I'm not stellar at.
I guess it's just picking which is your preferred compromise...
The Ork looks really great by the way, dose these mean you have done some Ork buffalo riders and Fantasy Orks in general

The bison rider orc is just some artwork for the website. When I get the actual paper minis done they will be side view in the usual fashion. I haven't done any of these yet, but they are on the to do list along with the rest of the orc army, a dwarf army, and a human army. Then I gotta go back and flesh out the horde and faerie armies that I already did so that there are more variations of each troop type.
Yes I understand the limitations to painting my figures in photoshop. However I am looking for a happy medium where I can incorporate my painting style with modularity for ease of creating multiple versions of the same troop type. I experimented a bit with this when I did the warbirds in the soon-to-be released monster pack. It worked out well with them, but you do have to make more adjustments as you go along to make sure the painting actually makes sense.
Like I say, I still have a ton to learn, but my current paper minis are leaps and bounds better than my first few. In fact I'll post a pic of my very first paper mini so you can see what I mean.

My first thought was that this has to be some kind of Lion-Leech-Zombie that hooked onto this poor barbaric soul and is now controlling him on a spree of epic bloodlust. Then I yawned with a vengeance and all that's left is great artwork, and I don't think that's a bad thing .

The knight looks great. We have too few knights in such wonderful full plate. Only a thing.
-lance seems to be a little bit too short...

Yeah, I've been kind of looking at the lance. It could use a little beefing up, both in length and thickness so it won't be too flimsy when cut out.
At least we know he isn't trying to compensate for anything.
