The second Tea House The main building with open shoji screen. This is the only part of this building that is customized. It took a lot of trial and error before I came to a deceptively simple solution

Test build with screen cut out and double sided version prepared. This was cut from an extra interior with crease down the centre post. It is full height for ease of fitting.

Screen fitted to inside of wall, slightly overlapping the opening. This works better if the opening is towards the folded corner, not the tabbed one.

Ready to fit on the platform. In 28mm it should be possible to have two open screens by laminating between the layers. Attempts to do that in this scale weakened the building.

Building the roof canopy After a disastrous first attempt, I decided to join the top and underside canopy panels before putting it together.

The main building of SVB3. The Elder's House AKA The Engawa building. So called for its fancy porches. Inspired by Chris's kit-bash in the instructions, I decided to join the side panels of the main and end buildings together. The triangular pieces at the top of the layout are the tops of the gable ends. the extra diagonal tabs are to support both roofs.

The main floor ready to fit. Once again I decided to leave off the floor supports in favour of a double thickness of foamcore. For ease of fitting, I tabbed the coners like Dave Graffam's bases

Ready for the floors with cross beams joined up and interiors fitted. The plan is to slide in and glue the main floor before closing off the end.

Porches in place. I had to modify the porches with extra posts and larger double thickness floors, to compensate for my decision to combine the two buildings. The original design had the porches clipped around the main building.

I have decided to have another go at the Engawa house. I will be using Chris's modular design as far as practical but incorporating a couple of my kitbash ideas. I will post new pictures at each stage.

Parts for the main building. Doors cut out as before. This time, I left the side posts on the linking gable end in place and trimmed the joining tab to match
