I will be maintaining this thread for 2.5/3d armor for my CDN army line. My first 2 models I want to get done for this line are the power armor (Needs some major reworking) and a mech. Below is a test render for the mech. The legs are 2.5d with so much armor that they look 3d and I plan to have a variate of weapons to be mounted on the shoulders. Enjoy Nate

THAT, is awesome!
Love the look!
Are you planning on having the backs of each armor piece colored, or just leave that up to us with our trusty Sharpies?

That is too cool, Nate. Very nice, I could see replacing the legs with treads or something. Outta curiosity, is the torso meant to spin, or just the disk on top?
May neither, but still a great design. ;D

onemonkeybeauI will be providing backs to the 2d parts similar to what I did on my power armor. I might add more detail to them rather then just a flat shader because you can actually see some of the backs when the model is built. I have never gotten the sharpie to work when building 2.5d stuff. I gave up and when to my local copy store and ran off about 50 sheets of card stock copying a black page. Then I print on the other side. Saves me time and sharpies. But I think for something this size there needs to be some detail in there. jabbroI thought about making some treads and stuff for it but I'm gona keep it simple for now. Besides we will see where Jim and I can go making modular parts for vehicles. I want to keep the work I do for Jim and the things I do for myself as two very separate entities so I'm just going to be doing non modular models for now. The top is meant to rotate 360 but it actually cant. Unfortunately when building paper models sometimes you have to sacrifice functionality for feasibility. Ill see how things look once i get it unfolded and test built. Nate

Hows this bad boy coming along? Its not ;D. There are some design elements that I have been working on. A new joint system for the weapons and also a redesign of the legs system. All of which will be put to the test on the much smaller power armor. This guy is 4th on my to do list so once I get a good test of the above mentioned parts and a few more 2d figures done Ill give a shot at this. Personally I think that doing 3d/2.5d mech and vehicles are far more simple then working on 2d flats. With vehicles there is no need to total and complete detail like on figures because there is an added dimension to the models. Anyways I ramble on. Updates will be posted as I can get to them. Nate

I'm sure that after all your experience with the other vehicles you'll be able to tweak this into a nice workable design. I agree with the simplicity. I just wish i knew a good, simple mech came to use with it. ;D

I agree that there is a serious lack of quality mech games out there. But I have a surprise up my sleeve. Something I have been playing around with for some time now. That is all I'll say because thats about all I have aside from a few notes and what not but I also have this to tease you with. Now that you have seen it don't bug me about it ;D. Were talking months perhaps even a year before I can get my ideas into something practical that I can even attempt to market. Nate

Just wondering if those would fit your needs until Slick gets to his versions.
