Okay, last options - A simple box launcher of medium ATGM's with a less sophisticated targetting system; And finally the AA system so the Command hover won't get smacked down; That finishes all of the accessories, time to unfold, test-build and see if I can make everything fit on 1.5 pages.

Work progresses on my new texturing styles for the soft skirts - Basic; Kinda dirty; Really dirty;

The Recon Hover has been re-arranged slightly to be Craft Robo compatible and is ready to be re-launched...except that looking at the old textures, I felt they were below my current standards... Now I don't want go back and redo everything as I'd like to maintain my current momentum. However, I recall one of my customers mentioning that he was using the Recon Hover to patrol his 'Slagtown' layout, and with that in mind I made a simple re-texture of a grunge-y version with minor adjustments to contrast and saturation. The new version will go in the packet with all the old ones and the GSD cutting file.

I really like the look of the hover skirt!
Hmmm... another thought just entered my mind...
How about Hammer's Slammers?!?! THAT would be the BOMB!
Hovertanks, patrol cars!

The new grunge version final build, also a test for the CraftRobo file; And a side by side with the original, which looks very flat texturally by comparison; Just need to finish the 'How to use a GSD File' instructional document and this is ready to go.

The new version is so much better looking! I think you have done a good job on it.

The first Hammers Slammers novel is in my laptop bag right now. ;D That and the Dorsai series are among my 'formative fiction'. I like how the rules for the Pinnacle miniatures game play (an afv game with infantry) and I'm planning to pick up the Mongoose RPG supplement next week.

Continuing to move forward on the APC's after my little Recon Hover detour, new skirt textures; The new soft skirts are almost complete, a few details here and there (mud, step plates on the rear, some minor scratches) and they get set aside. The armored skirts are taking a bit longer and I can't quite decide on the look I like for them; Bare. Rusty. Bluish. Weapons test-builds are finished and I can start on the upper sections tomorrow.

Hmm, like the bare and the rusty skirts, not sure about the blueish one.

I agree too. I like the bare the best, and the rusty one is not bad. I wouldn't go with the blueish one though maybe if it was a lighter shade, but they it would look all shiny and clean. The rusty one could have some orange edge to it where it meets up with the whites/grays. Kind of like this, sorry cannot think of any other way to sum it up: www.freefoto.com/images/904/09/904_09_1785---Rust-Texture_web.jpgAnita

Bare and Rusty. Rusty the best. It gives the impression of use.

Thanks all, and thanks Anita for the rusty pic. Orange...I am color blind and so sometimes I forget about how colors can influence perceptions of texture as what I concentrate on is shape and surface detail...orange for mister rusty skirts it is. The blue was a tired brain tiring to overlay color on top of the texture in attempt to make it look more factory new...but fewer color schemes that look better will make me much happier this time around. All weapon test-builds, and corrections, are complete. I keep the GSD file open in RoboMaster while I'm working on the builds and then adjust things there, then save as a pdf and open in Photoshop. That way I know my print file and my cutting file will be identical. Saves a great deal of time that way. I ended up with some extra space on one page and built some external storage compartments to ride on the tops of the APC's to fill up the page. I'm on the David Drake Newsletter mailing list and it's always interesting to read about his thought process during creation, always looking for the edge of his abilities and wondering when he's going to crash, thinking his own work stinks, but he hasn't crashed yet so he must be doing something right. Baen books is also reprinting the 'Complete Hammer's Slammers' series with new covers; www.amazon.com/Complete-Hammers-Slammers-I/dp/1439133093/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255118769&sr=1-3Good reads. ;D ;D This is the cover of the one in my bag;

Mayfair Games published a Hammers Slammers board game back in the late 1980's. I own 2 copies of it. The box art uses the 2nd picture.
The board comes in pieces that are put together like a jigsaw puzzle. You can make different boards using the same pieces.

I always thought Mayfair was pretty hit and miss with their rules systems and they had the worst advertising of any big commercial company. If I can find a copy I'll probably pick it up for the art and fluff. Thanks!

"The Forever War" as a boardgame? Ad copy; "Game length: Six minutes to six hundred years. May require generations of descendants to complete your move."I just read Forever Free and as I picked it up I was thinking, "Wow, how do you write a sequel to the Forever War?".....and it really isn't.

Yeah. They actually did a pretty good job on the game. It incorporates the differences in Tech levels. I agree with the sequel. I haven't heard of it, but how, exactly WOULD you go about writing a sequel to it? Now you got me thinking about what it would be like to play it with MINI's! hint, hint..

COOL!
I'll definitely see the movie. I just hope that it is not a disappointment like Starship Troopers was.

Small bump.
So having read my 'Hammers Slammers: the crucible' rules set from cover to cover several times, I got to thinking how could I do massed tanky stuff in 25mm and still pay the mortgage!!!? Mel has some bits that would work, as do Glenn and a couple of others, but these GEV's you were designing really fit the bill.
Any chance you haven't abandoned this project?

First progress in ages- I've pulled an old (5 years?) iMac G5 from surplus and have been updating it to use as a workstation. One of the nice things about it is that is has Photoshop CS and InDesignCS both already installed. Dave Graffam once said that he makes his multi-layered pdf's by making individual textured layers in Photoshop and then export/imports the PNG files to InDesign to make the pdf's. I tried that today with my three versions of armored skirts and then some weathering and rust layers. It was surprisingly easy and came out really nice. I tried doing layered pdf's years ago using Illustrator and I just didn't like the final result, felt very clunky. So now I just need to make some scorch mark and bullet splash layers for the skirts and they will be done. <whew> This just freed up some brain power as I find my thoughts spinning sometimes over which variants to make and whether to include damage and weathering, now it's just a layer to turn on and off, so simple. No ETA on this set, but it is finally in motion again.

Sweet. Welcome to the layered revolution. And congrats on getting an old machine that you can use to revamp these with. That alone was probably a big headache. Looking forward to the finished set.

And congrats on getting an old machine that you can use to revamp these with. That alone was probably a big headache. Yes, somewhat. I dug out the old G3 that I had designed and built my 1/600 scale Ironclads on five years ago, OMFG! I can't believe how slow that thing is, I must have had a lot more free time then to sit and wait for an effect to render. The G5 does much better. I'm glad I got all of the GSD files and test-builds for the models finished before everything fell apart. I'm also getting a WinXP machine put together so I can run RoboMaster. I don't feel like doing my final builds by hand.

Glad you're finding ways to work on these SD!! If you've ordered Crucible then you might be interested in the 'support' site www.hammers-slammers.com/updates.htmIt has a few errata, Pdfs of all of the QRS and unit cards (in 25/15 and 6mm scales) and loads of eye candy in the form of photo galleries, including a couple of sneaky peeks at the forthcoming 6mm range (by old crow I believe)

Thanks, that Hog looks nice and 6mm becomes a more practical scale to field a piece like that. Plus GZG has a good selection of 6mm from Dirtside. Wonder if a Slammer/Dirtside supplement is in the works?
