I said that I should post my work in progress sooner so you guys can provide feedback, insight, and any critiques before I get too far into the process. Here is my low quality sample. This is just to give you a general idea of what I am aiming at. The finals should have a lot more quality. I have not done the backs, yet. I am trying to get all the fronts done before I get that far. Oh,, and none of these are to scale.

These all look very nice wish my final drawings looked half as nice as your rough ones . About the only constructive comments I can think of are: ~ were are the women/female ones?? both warrior/thief types and dancer types. ~ The genie in the second row looks a little to disembodied...not sure on his sword either. I hope the snake stays about that size looks very intimidating, i'd be up for more of those scorpion guy things as they'd make a great army But all thumbs up here

Yeah, the sword/dagger on the 2nd genie does seem to be too wide. Are you going to color him blue and talk in the voice of Robin Williams? Oh yeah, definitely need to have a flying carpet! You could do it in 2.5d so that the carpet lies flat and then a couple of sitting figures to place or glue on top of it.

Because you wanted me to I'm going to write it here to, arabians without beards are dishonored, give that guard at least a goatee.
The guys were talking no non-sense, there is really only one girl in the group, and the scorpion guy really would make a huge army. You k'now you could do two sets that are Arabian I'm pretty sure you'd have enough to do so.

Thanks, Darkmook! SirRob, the genie in the second row is meant to be an efreet, or fire djinn. Since I do the fire effects digitally, I drew the hair and tail off to the size just as a reference of the type of shape I'd like to go for. He'll look more like the first figure but with flames. The man-scorpion and snake are going to be large creatures. I kindda left out the women, aside from the administrative genie. I should add some of those. djlittle, I'll redo the sword. I intended it to be a huge sword that only a magical creature dare wield, but it looks a little too awkward. Funny, I have a paper flying carpet that Shaun Austin made back in 2007 with a base and everything, but I can't find where I got it from. It was just a jpeg. Anybody have any clues? Anita, I'm not sure about a goatee for the Mameluke (bottom right corner). I was thinking on stubble, but I'll play with him digitally to see what I can do without removing his baby faced looks. To do list: - girls
- better sword for the fire fiend
- possibly a carpet if no one can help me find the cool one that is already out there somewhere. (Help!)
- some sort of facial hair

Yeah, John!
These look great! All my criticisms were voiced above...
This is going to be one great set for a genre that has next to none paper miniatures!
Excellent choice!

These look great Jabbro. I think Shauns carpet was from an MMIP, I've got it somewhere as well. I'll check the MMIP archives when I get chance (or Eric might have a better idea exactly where it is ) Also you need a monkey! There's one in Alaadin (Abu, my daughter would point this out to me!!) and there's at least one in the Sinbad films (a transmuted prince if memory serves me correct). Mentioning Sinbad leads on to all sorts of monsters, Cyclops, giant two headed birds (ROC), evil viziers etc, not to mention Ali Baba and the forty thieves, so we'd need large jars for that !

Thanks, Beau. Magpiestear, you are a lifesaver. Here is the carpet: MMIP #40It is in the bottom right corner. I'll add a monkey. Now that you mention Sinbad, I seem to remember quite a few fantasy creatures from his stories. They will probably be fodder for a future set. I'll add a giant oil jar for you, too.

Thanks, Bob. What I meant is that these are heavily pixelated and not cleaned up at all. Here are the girls: Well, obviously all but the one with the mustache. I still have a giant scorpion, sand creature, vulture, naga, and desert worm, monkey, oil jar, and some lamps and bottles for the genies planned. Maybe that is a bit much.

Clever poses and interesting designs with a very pulpy feel. Very cool looking Cobra.
I like'em all. I'd say the 2 weakest are the torso on the Scoproid and the DiJin's ultraroid'ed pecs, delts and biceps. Otherwise they are all very exceptional.

Also you need a monkey! There's one in Alaadin (Abu, my daughter would point this out to me!!) and there's at least one in the Sinbad films (a transmuted prince if memory serves me correct). I have never read or seen Aladdin, so every time i hear about arabian mokeys, i always think about the little nazi monkey in the first Indiana Jones movie... But is has about the right size - small, cute (and annoying as h***)... The efreet sword looks weird, just as other have mentioned. If it has to look like a huge sword, you might make it a bit thinner and longer instead. For inspiration you could look at typical GW minis or World of Warcraft weapons - both places have extremely huge weapons. Otherwise, your samples look great. /Cobra

Actually the sword might come out fine once colour is applied - light gradients and the like.
Nice looking set - needs more bellydancers though.

Thanks guys. Beau and Rob, I'll keep everyone in the set. I was thinking about making a smaller set, but I guess one big set is just as economical as buying two small ones... Thanks, Floyd, I've been trying to get some better poses. Most of the scorpion-man's lower torso is covered by his mechanical scissor armored arm. I am not the happiest with pose. It is very static. I may redo the upper torso just to fix that. The efreet is pretty cliche. Cobra, that's the style of monkey I'll be going for. I have a several good sword designs to choose from, so you guys don't have to worry about the fat pocket knife. Abaddon, you'll have to wait for the next set of Arabians for more of those.

Incredible designs! I like the snake the best, and all the flowing garments, those I can't do nearly as well as you can, very cool. This will be a popular set for you. JIM

If you're doing the harem, you'll want a eunoch or two to guard it!

Thanks, Jim. From the look of it, this set will be the biggest, too. I have been gathering source material so I'll still have ideas for other sets in the same genre.
Steve, Great idea. For my next Arabian set, that is a must.

Thanks, Xtea. I spent a lot of time designing the man-scorpion so he could not be confused with the regular one below. Okumarts, I like your thinking. I'll have to see what else goes into that set. Here is the last of the last. Thanks to Anita, I totally went back to the drawing board on my Naga and the desert worm. I am glad that I did. These versions look much better.

I remember "The Pirates of Dark Water." I think I had the ship they put out with their action figures. This was as an adult, not as a child. If I remember rightly, it was even after I had gotten married. After my wife found out I could make money playing with toys, I could get away with pretty much anything!
I like your drawings, Jabbro. Put the vulture's wigs on the monkey, and the only things missing are the witch, Dorothy and Toto!
Have fun! Steve

I remember the Pirates of Dark Water. The animation was petty bad. Then again so was the animation in the Thundercats, I was just too young to know any better. I definitely did not know there was an RPG. It the game any good, or is it just good for source and setting material? Steve, perhaps one of these days you'll get a complete Oz set. I think Jim has most the bits except for the tin-man, Lion, and of course the most important two.

Pirates of Dark Water, He-Man, Dungeons & Dragons, ThunderCats, The Herculoids, Thundar the Barbarian.... all horrible animation, but gosh wasn't it awesome!
Voltron & Robotech were the soap operas of my youth. Better stories and a cut abovei in the animation department.
Sorry for hijacking the thread Jabbro!

No problem, Floyd. You nailed it on the head listing Robotech as a Soap Opera. They would build on the tension of a moment for episodes until you were demanding the inevitable clash of conflict only to have the heroes whisked away into another unlikely circumstance all in the course of an episode. Good story but I hated having to wait several episodes for the cliffhangers to be resolved. Now, I have the advantage of waiting until the whole series is over and watching them as a set.

These are beautiful, Jabbro. Have you considered making a few treasure pile pieces? It would neat to have treasure pieces that could be used individually or slotted into the 3D treasure pile in FDG's E-Z Dungeon set: www.fatdragongames.com/fdg0059.htmlTreasure of various sorts would be useful in all sorts of contexts.
