So few of my friends asked if'd I'd run a Campaign for them all (probably D&D), We were going to wait till the new year but now all of us are going to be pretty much stuck at home for Xmas (at least no inlaw visiting..I hope) so figured we'd start earlier. Needed to get a map done for were they will exist, I tried most of the commercial/free mapping stuff available, Didn't like any of them, all appeared to have less features than inkscape (well autorealm had a nice distance measure feature). So i've been drawing the map up in inkscape and creating icons to scatter over the map, it's in the sort of Fantasy iso cartoon style, Overland Continent scale the landmass is approximately 2500km wide, it's not finished yet just started mapping on the large forest areas. At the below scale only cities and capitals will appear but on a different layer I'll place towns/hamlets so I can turn them on and off to generate closer in regional maps Once I finish the above up I'll finish up the two floaty guys

Nice! I'll have to find inkscape and try it. A very good program which is EASY to use, AND has GREAT user art and support is Dundjinni. They also have a lot of isometric stuff to use. www.dundjinni.com/

Nice one, Sirrob. I love the little icons for the inhabitants. Those plains look lonely. Scatter some more hills around.

Djlittle, yes I had a look a Dundjinni, seemed more suited to more detailed maps although i did grab some of the free icons but none really suited what I was after. Jabbro - few more details added, not quiet as bare I had to move out of inkscape and into Gimp, inkscape couldn't handle the file size. Not quiet done as I haven't had much free time but almost there, title to fix up, some sea monsters to add and some main natural feature naming to do. The image is probably a little small to see any detail on...

Looks good. I like the added detail. I think that is just what it needed. This looks nice enough for an old school computer game. ;D

I've been MIA a while, Nov/Dec are always crazy months between work and family . getting back to drawing but wanted to get this little project out of the way, finished up the map and drew up a rough blob map for the rest of the world, some work to do on the larger scale map but I'll keep future posts here to drawing miniatures : the map above is the tiny island looking thing near the middle right: Back to the drawing
