I have friends bugging me to play Warhammer and Warhammer 40K, but I don't have the time and the cash to build the armies that I want to use, so I've decided to create a Vampire Counts army using OneMonk paper miniatures. What I need help with is figuring out what sets I can use for what models. I took a quick look at the Vampire Counts Army book and these are the following roles I need to fill. Zombie Horde - hand weapons Skeleton Warriors - Hand Weapons, light armor, shield Skeleton Warriors - spears, light armor, shield Crypt GhoulsDire Wolves Bat SwarmCorpse KartGrave Guard - Wights- heavy armor, shield, hand weapon Black Knight - Mounted Wights heavy armor, shield, Lance Spirit HostFell Bats - Mansized Bats Varghule - Larger than mansized, feral, vampire bat thing Cairn Wraith - Great Weapon Tomb Banshee - hand weapon Blood Knights - Vampire Mounted Wights heavy armor, shield, Lance Vampires - foot and mounted Necromancer - foot and mounted If you have any suggestions, please post a link to the pic and I'll updae my list as models are found. Thanks !

Black Knights are easy. or Could also use that second one, the Dark Riders for Blood Knights. Not quite accurate, but close enough. Crypt Ghouls, the Ghoul from the Undead Sampler pack. Bat Swarms The Undead Samples covers a lot actually. Got a vampire, a possible Necromancer...the skeleton warband has another possible necromancer. The Corpse Cart, Grave Guard and Dire Wolves on the other hand...nothing comes to mind.

I actually tried this same thing. Have 40+ zombies cut out and mounted. Have never used them as all my gaming buddies are kinda anti-paper.

I´m using the bats from "All Hallows eve: witches and bats" for bat swarms. See my post in the gallery, I have posted pics of one of them.
I´m thinking about using some witches like necromancers.
Dark riders = Blood Knights.
Grave Guard= Skeleton Glaive Regiment.
You have wolves in the free month hoard (22 may) and in the free monter set.
I´m going to use gargoyles instead giants bats for now.

Thanks for the suggestions. There are just too many sets here to be familiar with the contents of them all.
I figured I may have to kitbash or scratchbuild a few units.
Ghouls- Had the same thought. I've already turned the single Ghoul into four, and I'm working on more.
Bats - That batswarm is great. I'm sure I can kitbash it into some new variations.
Fell Bat - The Gargoyle is an intersting idea, and I may use it. First though, I think I'm going to try enlarging a few bats ans see how they look.
Black Knights - Those guy s look great. I may use them as it, but I'm thinking about experimenting with the King Arthur knights as well.
Blood Knights - I think I'm going to mod some of the King ARthur Knights into Blood Knights, so that they will be easily distinguishable form my black knights.
When I played at the FLGS they may have objected if I tried to use paper models, but I play most of my games in basements and dining rooms these day, so I don't forsee any issues.
I'm Hoping OneMonk is able to sort out the Skeletons into the first new bundle deal soon, so I can take advantage of it. He hasn't said anythign about them being first, but they are the only line with 10 sets and he's working on the cookie cutter files for them, so I kinda imagine they are going to be first.
It looks like I'm going to end up with some kitbash models. I'll post my progress in my folder and supply them to the horde when I'm finished.
Maybe December's Horde theme can be Undead Army ? It would help to promote sales for the Skeleton Army Deal, and maybe fill the gaps in my army.

What does mean "kitbash"? I´m Spanish and I don´t know a lot of english words . I´m going to use a monster from the "dungeon monsters set" for the Varghule, it seem like an eagle mixed with gorilla. great idea to convert the King Arthur Knight to Blood Knights, I will like to see them.

A Kitbash is when you build a new model from parts of other models.
I can't draw to match OneMonk's style, but I can edit his models to create new models, in his style.

Created a thread in my folder for the Kitbashes as I make them HEREI'll contribute them to the horde when I have them all finished. I'd still like to discuss any ideas here for suitable models.

Up to 18 Ghoul models, 19 if you count Squirmy Dad's Ghoul Standard from Horde #1.
4 Bat Swarms kitbashed.
Was going to buy all the nonskeleton models I needed, but got distracted with the Ebbel Miniatures sale. Spent nearly $50 on SciFi models I may never actually use, but thought looked good enough that I wanted them just in case. If I ever play any SciFi skirmish game, I have all the terrain needs covered.
Collected 4 Wights from the Horde files, but none of them are armed the way I want them. They'll all have to be modded to suite my needs.
2 Cairn Wraiths with scythes, between the Hordes, and a 3rd once I get the the Ghostly spririts set.

I had been working on this guy for a game; but went with the armored Wights instead as I ran out of time. >edit> Sorry, put this post in the wrong place the first time.

He looks cool, got a whole Skeletor vibe going there I think I'm going to kitbash the 3 or 4 One Monk Wights, I've found so far, to include sword and shield. They all seem to be armed with greatweapons.

Just picked up the Ghosts, Grave Robbers, and Zombies sets.
Now I need to turn the cart from the Grave Robbers set into a corpse cart.

Don't forget the BONE GOLEM can count for the Horror. JIM

hmmm.... That is an intersting idea. The Bone Golem negative energy that animates the bone golem radiates so strongly that it makes animated zombies and skeletons in its proximty easier.

You know, you could use the Bone Golem as a "counts as" Varghulf. What you described is kinda what it does anyway. Its not really "flying". It can just dissolve and reappear wherever it needs to be!

I have the GW Black Coach model and...I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of it on eBay. Its the original metal model. Putting it together in such a way that it won't fall apart is giving me a headache. The amount of drilling and pinning...ugh.

I actually enjoy all the pinning and gluing, and basing, and painting, and painting, and making movement trays that match, and magnitizing the bases so they stick to their trays, etc... but by time I actually finish working on an army I've become distracted by something else.
Example.) Bought the recent fantasy edition and assembled the dwarves and gobbos. Decided to play Ogre Kingdoms. Bought and traded for enough Ogre Kingdoms to make 3 armies. Read rules decided I only really wanted troops with armor and great weapons. Converted regular models to armored great wepon wielding troops. Magnatized all the bases and cut sheet metal to line all the movement tray. Heavily converted 3 Butchers after deciding the metal ones I already had look terrible. Did extensive resculpting of Warlord so he didn't look like everyone elses (they only make one model). Got the whole army together, unpainted, and played it. Decided they were very weak against magic based armies. Consulted online forums and found out that everyone else did exactly what I did. Made the army becuase it looked cool and then found that it wasn't very competive.
Vampire Counts army book comes out.... Made list, consulted online resources, found out VC is very competitive, and suits my fetish for undead miniatures. Figures out how much it's going to cost me to buy the VC army I want and just give up.
Rambles incoherently and forgets what my original point was...
ONE MONK FIGURES RULE !!! Won't cost me a fotune. Can assemble complete army in a fraction of the time.

This is exactly why I want to focus on armies. It's not too expensive to do skirmish games in metal, but armies can really cost you. I think by doing armies first I can really appeal to those who want to try a lot of different armies but don't have a thousand bucks to do it, or the time to paint them. JIM

I found this thread after some Googling. Cool that I'm already a OneMonk fan and already have an account on the forum page. Anyway -- the question I've got is -- do you have any of these Bat Swarms available? I'm running a Pathfinder game and these critters are going to be appearing in an upcoming encounter. I'd *REALLY* like to have something that represents a bat swarm hit the table when that happens. Thanks! --ex
