Hello,
If you liked "Speed Rally," you may be interested in another game I'm releasing this week -- this time for free!
When I was growing up I loved the movie Rollerball (not the awful remake, but the one and only 1975 distopian classic.) About a decade ago I designed a set of miniature rules to play this fictional future sport, and friends and I have had a lot of fun with it over the years.
For a variety of reasons, I have decided to release my game for free under Creative Commons licensing. (Due to copyright factors, the name is now Rulerball ... with an umlaut over the u, lol... but it is still the violent death sport you know and love.) For a short time you can download a PDF of the complete rules, track sections and playing pieces from my site, japenet.net (in the games section). Everything can be printed out on a standard color printer, and there are also guidelines as to how you can build your own 3-D arena.
Like I said, there are a variety of reasons I decided to release this game onto the net for free. If you and your friends really love the rules and want to make a donation of $5 or $10, I won't say no. In the meantime, I thought it was more important to finally share what is a great game (if I do say so myself) with passionate gamers who might want to play it.
Happy holidays!

I love that James Caan classic. I think that was the first movie I saw on Home Box Office. Heck, I might just build the 3d track because it is so fang cool looking. (Hey Darkmook can we get you do some figures for this along with your Roller Derby girls?)
I've not seen Speedrally before. Anyone own it? Or played it? I'd be interested in knowing about it.
That's great the guy built a 3d track for Circus Maximus that also contains REAL dirt from the original in Rome. Now that's taking the hobby to the next level. I can really appreciate that.

JP Trostle has added another free game to his site; I've decided to celebrate the new year by releasing another free set of rules from the vault. This is an earlier design of mine - a quick, easy miniatures game for use with the MicroMachines Z-Bots, or any other toy robots you might have.
I was always a big fan of Comedy Central's Battlebots, and fondly remember Rivets (the old fighting robots boardgame from Metagaming). A decade ago, when I came across a bunch of Z-bots for sale, I decided to come up with a short set of rules for them that captured the fun mayhem of cute robots destroying each other.
Warbots fits that bill. You can download the rules, player sheets, and 16 sample warbots here.japenet.net/japenetgames.html

Printed and played it with other 3 friends, so i want to give you some feedback: Me and one of them liked it enough, but the other two fired it. The main issue we have found is the amount of dice rolling; i try to explain: We are a group of experienced players, meeting each tuesday from about 20 years. The whole group is build by around 40 persons, with someone being there every week, and someone else appearing sometime. We have played almost anything, as usually each one buy the game he like, so we have plenty of different genres. What we have learnt, which is common to all the games, is that we "hates" too much rolls, 'cause they "eat" time and slow down the "rhytm" of the games. Rulerball suffer of this: roll, search the table, reroll, search another table, roll again.... I don't see how it can be addressed (provided that it should!): Descent and Doom adopted the "multi info" dice, with range, ammo, energy and range "numbers" scattered on the same dice, other games adopted very different way (i'm thinking at Silent Death). The second issue is that the dice are too strong; as example. we felt that, if a team surround a single skater, the success to put him down should be almost granted. The "+4" bonus instead is too little compared to the 2d6 range. We all agreed that it needs to be "simplified" a bit, to keep the game fast and deadly. But I want to thank you for this game, it was fun even with the issues
