OK folks-as well as getting my images etc together for the switch to publishing on my own rather than through JIM, I have been tinkering away at a set of rules, board, cards, doors etc for my minis, imaginatively titled SURVIVAL HORROR. The first version is set over 3 levels of the besieged SHPD police station, and I have been playtesting the first scenario: The evening went well with a LOT of input to the rules, which have been heavily revised. A lot of tea, cider and pizza was consumed along the way, but the end result was a (relatively) smooth flowing, fun filled zombie game. The long suffering Bride of DARKMOOK has also been helping out with mini playtests (2 player and solo play should be a feature!), and we are finally bashing it into shape! I have started on the finished board using textures I have been working on: (Fastest fingers in the West!) More news to follow as and when it comes! This is NOT a quick process, but I will be adding pics and design stuff as I go along. Cheers!

This is great news.
Not only is it a awesome idea in general, but I had already planned on running a zombie filled police station for my ATZ campaign. Now I can just wait and use your setup !!!

Figured it's been a couple of weeks so I'd pester and see if you would give us an update.
Will the game feature new minis, or recycle some of your existing figs ? How many ? The monster hunters you talked about a while back, is this game their new home? Need any more playtesters ?
Inquiring minds want to know ?

Hey ADS! Been super busy these past few weeks, so haven't really progressed much further than rule bashing a little and modifying some card designs-and making some doors! I plan on the 'basic' game coming with some of the previously released minis, and character cards for all the stuff I have put out, including the free Hoard minis. I am thinking of the cop and inmate zombies, as well as maybe Hodder and/or Gunnar. The hunters would be exclusive to the game most likely, as well as a new ' BOSS' character. I will let folks know if I need further playtesters, but that will be well into the new year-I am still sorting the image files for my move to independence on RPG Now! Just to whet your whistles, here are some of the WIP cards: Cheers!

Wow, I'm looking forward to this. I really like your style (including others who publish their stuff thru One Monk).

I have to admit I too like the look of this.
Hey Darkmook where have your figures gone at RPGnow, I had a load on my wishlist and they seem to have disappeared!!! Is this connected to Jim's removal of his stuff and your imminent setting up on your own?

Hey thanks folks! I am really snowed under at work at the moment, but I managed to get some new bases and a re-color done this week for the game, as well as sketches for 2 more hunters. I will post when I get them finished up and the chance!
Magpiestear-my figs have taken a quick break as Jim was hosting them for me. I am hoping to get them back up from this week, starting with the free Hoard set and Set 1-Last Man Standing.
Thanks again to Jim for all his help and encouragement too!

Hey all! Just a quick update on progress! I have been busy updating the rules (really just simplifying and streamlining), figuring out the weapons and special items and getting the images and tokens layed out. I am also nearly finished with the next two human minis-a biker and grizzled veteran cop. Here are the cards version 2.0: Character cards(Bioweapon and Fast Zombie) Weapon cards(Magnum, Hand Gun and Chainsaw) Item cards(Vehicle Key Objective Item, Lock Pick and Medical Pack) Text etc needs adding, but I am pleased with how the basic background and images have turned out. I am hoping to get the basics finished for a new playtest at the end of the month, so should post again then!

The cards have definitely improved. Nice to see your taking your time and developing the art. Sometimes the art can get rushed, or has not been fully developed and it detracts from the game. JIM

Thanks all! I decided to slow down a little, and scale back what I wanted to do with the game-I was trying to cram all my miniatures into it and it was getting waaaaaaaaay too big and complicated! I am definately going back to the drawing board a little, and am really pleased with the new cards and counters-as soon as I get the final human minis finished I will post pics of them all. I am aiming to playtest after my birthday is out of the way (start of March) and should have some 'action shots' up from that too!

Well, things are moving along at a snails pace, but as well as cutting out zombies any spare minutes I have, I have finished the second of the 4 human characters in the game. He isn't formally named as yet - I have just been referring to him as The Biker: I have almost finished the colouring on the Veteran Cop, then just need to get the final character drawn up and I can get round 2 of the playtesting done!! Will keep you posted!

OK! Long time no post-sorry about that folks, but things have been a little frantic recently! We managed to get the second round of official playtesting done with what was essentially the finished rules and board. Following the test, some minor adjustments were made to the rules, and a major adjustment to the board-a reduction to two levels and less rooms, to quicken the pace! Here are a few pics! Biker in the cell block All quiet for now... The zombies are massing! The game under way! Heated debate! Hunter and Veteran Cop vs Zombie HoundsBioweapon vs BikerWaaaaaaay too happy... Game over for the Biker as his companions decide with extreme prejudice who gets a space in the van! The aftermath! A good time was had by all, and the mechanics made for an enjoyable fast paced but tactical game. The number of weapons and items seemed right, and the massing zombies added a real air of tension as the game progressed! Looking forward to the next playtest and getting this sucker into production!

Hey parduz! I'm afraid that the game is still in the testing stage-I am having what I hope to be the final round of initial playtesting this weekend, but it will be a while yet before it's available I'm afraid I will keep you all posted as to developments!

PHEW! Long time no post! Worry not though, progress has been going on apace in SURVIVAL HORROR world-had a couple more playtests, a lot of design and mechanics tweaking and additional character design and we are finally getting something like! I hope to get a write up of the last playtest on here and the DARKMOOK blog soon, but in the meantime here is a quick pic of the re-designed civilian: Getting closer, folks...

Howdy folks! Been out of commission for a while with a sprained spine/pelvis joint, so pc time is at a minimum at the moment! Just a quick peep at the first versions of the ESCAPE VAN objective tile from the SURVIVAL HORROR BOARDGAME: After consultation with the playtesters, I think we will go with a closed door version to stop any 'hiding zombie' arguments! Hope to be posting more regularly again soon once the back is a bit better.Cheers!

Hi nik-worry not, you haven't missed it!
I am still working out a few kinks and polishing the artwork and hope to get the finished product out early in the new year!
The playtests have all been very positive and it is proving to be a fun couple of hours of gaming-the tension builds nicely as the zombies mass, the bioweapon appears and the human players scramble for the last seat in the waiting chopper...
