First Figure

mproteau: Spent the first hour just letting them be silly to get it out of their system. They have lego figures for their characters. One kid brought a lego frog thinking I'd keep it off the table. Nope! It even played a (small) role in the first fight! Jan 31, 2015 11:20:26 GMT -9
mproteau: Finally started a 5th edition game (Lost Mines of Phandelver) with my kids today! We're all learning together. I insisted they recruit friends to play, so there's four of them ranging from 10 to 14. Jan 31, 2015 11:19:17 GMT -9
mahotsukai: He also has this to say about speed shooting. Something Lars Anderson is guilty of. Jan 30, 2015 18:08:22 GMT -9 *
mahotsukai: The side the arrow is placed is dependent on what release technique is used. Jan 30, 2015 18:07:35 GMT -9
mproteau: I <3 my robocutter! I realized I hadn't done up a lot of the Okumarts minis yet. I printed and cut (and mostly edged!) Darkfast Dungeons sets 1 - 3 (bonus figures and all!) and I still have time to watch some Game of Thrones tonight! Jan 30, 2015 16:46:22 GMT -9
eran: When I do combat archery in the SCA, I use a hip quiver - when running around in armor its a lot easier to draw and fire that way than a shoulder quiver. I've seen folks holding sheaves of arrows, but with combat blunts its rather difficult. Jan 28, 2015 5:11:02 GMT -9
wyvern: Also interesting the impracticality of the open quiver in active combat situations. Ancient artworks often show archers holding a bundle of arrows. Maybe minis should too? Jan 27, 2015 16:28:25 GMT -9
cowboyleland: Having been taught "the proper way" to shoot, I had always assumed that the artists in old pictures got it wrong. It sure seems like they were actually drawing what they saw. Jan 27, 2015 12:26:10 GMT -9

okumarts: The further back the illustration, the more likely it is thumb-sided. That could be because as the bow was replaced ballistically it became a target practice tool and less of a weapon. As a weapon the thumb seems more flexible in a combat situation. Jan 26, 2015 9:55:59 GMT -9
okumarts: Some sources are inconsistent. Jan 26, 2015 9:53:40 GMT -9
okumarts: I don't really remember what side I was on in the debate, but the older images I'm finding seem to support thumb side. Jan 26, 2015 9:49:44 GMT -9
cowboyleland: A few years ago there was a debate on this forum about what side of a bow the arrow should be on. I was on the "finger side" of the debate, but I think after seeing this I'm ready to accept "thumb side" minis. Jan 26, 2015 6:13:09 GMT -9
dungeonmistress: For anyone interested in seeing the books I made for Christmas gifts, here's the link: Jan 9, 2015 11:29:36 GMT -9

mproteau: Done! Somehow my printer did better on the last page of bosses than on the other pages, but it all looks great! The cutfiles are posted here: Dec 28, 2014 17:00:41 GMT -9
