l------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I needed a break from the flyer for a bit so i thought I'd give a fox army a try using one of Greywolf's font drawings as inspiration and then the ideas just sort of grew from there. After all those goblins Squirmydad did, they need something to face off against. The foxs are not perfect but they look okay printed out . So far I've finished up Light Sword Inf(3 poses), Heavy Sword Inf(5 poses), Longbow man (3 poses), Light cavalry (2 colours 2 poses each), Banner holders for each troop type and some banners (8 Horizontal, 8 vertical). These are laid out but I'm still need to work up the GSD files: Light Sword, I'd like to do two more poses, but more troop types have priority : Heavy sword, These were the 1st finished and the most based on the picy above: Longbow man...or as my wife says the merrymen Light cavalry, Dinosaurs seem to be mounts of choice for Ironclaw, If I have any problems with stability due to one leg raised I'll add some grass tufts: No Fantasy army is complete without unit Banner bearers, the Cav ones are the same as the above except they have flag post coming of the rear of the saddle: Lastly a few banners, I kept the banner style and colour the same so as to help tie the irregular troop types above together on the table (to much space to post them all so just a sample ), The picys on the banners come from the open clipart library with some slight mods : Before the end of the month I'd like to finish: ~ Male & Female hero ~ Male & Female Sorcerer ~ Mounted General ~ Pikeman ~ Ballista Dino I don't think i have time to finish all those but I'll get done what I can . Ideas on other troop types are welcome, although I make no promises

Those are some great fox designs! I think you may need to show a bit of the sides of the ears though. Even just angling one ear will help show the angle the head is at.
What game are you planning on using them with? Ironclaw? Song of the Splintered Lands?

Front and 3/4 view isn't helping much in these figures. In human faces it gives perpective, but in these it murks the details of the face that make the characters foxes.
The mounted side views are good, maybe more varied side faced or almost side faced faces, just enough for the muzzle to be well recognized, would be better in these foxes.
More furry figures! Yai!

WaffleM - Good point on the ear, I'll see what I can come up. I'll being using them for Songs Blades, No Quarter and possibly Ares and I might do some 18mm ones for "For the masses". If I can convince some of my friends to play fantasy instead of sci-fi . Hadn't even considered Splintered lands Squirmy and Jabbro - Hackbarth - yes a little more to the side would have been nice, but my er drawing skills such as they are would struggle greatly with that perspective, but i'll give it a try over the next few days.

Worked up the base models for a couple of the missing types i'd like to cover . Did a female variety and used them to fill in the missing two Light.Inf, Fox's being and equal opportunity society. I'm still struggling with drawing female's, please forgive any deformities Got the first pose for the Hero's done, I'll end up with two different poses, not sure if I'll do different weapons on the other. I'm about halfway through the sorcerer/mage version, males done and I've got an idea on how I want the female to look so she should be quicker to finishup. I'll aim for two different poses, anyways here's a wip shot of the male as he sits in inkscape, so no border and the line thickness is wrong: I tried a more angled head but it looks funky although almost right, just seems to be a little beyond me at the moment. Haven't had a chance to look at the ears yet

Finished up the Mages tonight, pretty happy with how the Vixens dress came out, I went from a pointy finger to a fireball, I think it looks more mage like: I'll try and get the hero's finished up tomorrow then I'll have a go at either the pikeman or a General

I slightly lied instead of finishing up the hero poses, I worked up the pikemen (no female versions). These guys are meant to be lightly armored peasants, as with the above ones fronts and backs are done: I used the angles from Jims elf pikeman to get the angles correct (hopefully Jim doesn't mind) although I made the pikes a little shorter. I plan to keep designing until this weekend and then I'll do GSD creation and test builds to confirm alignments all good. Belows a list of what i'd like to complete in the long term, I used the Hott troop types as a guide, not sure if I'll get them all done or even if I need to but it's a plan : Type | Description | Fox Resolved | State | Aerial Heroes | Heroes who can fly, or have a flying mount | Fox on Teradactyl | Design 2.5d | Artillery | Powerful, long ranged missile weapons | Dino ballista | Design 2.5d | Behemoths | Elephants, Giants, Dinosaurs, etc. | Archers on Brachiosaurus | Design 2.5d | Blades | Well equipped foot soldiers, like the Roman legion | Heavy Sword Infantry | Complete | Clerics | Religious leaders who perform an anti-Magician role | Fox Cleric/Monk | Pend | Heroes | Mighty warriors of renown | Fox Hero's | Complete | Hordes | Endless seas of poorly trained and equipped fighters. | Light Sword Infantry | Complete | Knights | Armored horsemen who charge ferociously into mêlée | Heavy Cavalry | Pend ((2.5D?)) | Magicians | Spell casters, sorcerers and conjurers | Fox Mage | Complete | Paladins | Warriors of Great Virtue | Fox Paladin | Pend | Riders | Mounted soldiers who fight with missile weapons in preference to mêlée | Light Cavalry | Complete ((re-Des)) | Shooters | Soldiers who fight with missile weapons, | Bowman | Complete | Sneakers | Ninjas and other sneaky assassin types | Fox Scouts | Pend | Spears | Well ordered soldiers fighting in phalanx | Fox Pike/Spear | Complete | Warband | Ferocious soldiers who lack discipline but not bravery | Possible Wild Fox's? | N/A | Dragons | Large, super-intelligent flying creatures | N/A | N/A | Fliers | Giant Eagles or other dangerous flying creatures | N/A | N/A | Gods | Powerful supernatural entities, like Zeus | N/A | N/A | Beasts | Savage creatures, like wolves | N/A | N/A | Airboats | Large flying platforms, like zeppelins | N/A | N/A | Lurkers | Creatures that hide in dark places. | N/A | N/A |

I like those Fox Pikes. I know it's not on your list, but those leather jerkins make me think of the other word that goes with Pike...do you have any Fox musketeers planned? ;D

hadn't thought of doing any but would be interesting to do... scribble. scribble.. scribble.... Instant Musket wielding fox...okay not quiet instant... ;D He's a bit wonky and as I said my more angled head is a bit off and the musket could use some touchups but I might knock out 2-3 off these next month..although I was thinking maybe a few sci-fi ones? anyways back to the clerics

Hmmm Just reading Marl Fox, in the redwall series. The marlfox characters would be ideal candidates for the sneakers category.
I post a description later, basically white and grey foxes with 'camo' cloaks!!
Lovin these by the way Sir Rob!!!

Thanks for the idea on sneaky fox's. I wont get them finished for March Horde but I'll try and put 2-3 troop types together for next months Horde and the one after. Hopefully I'll have all the troop types complete by around the end of may I picked up a copy of splintered lands, I hadn't realized it was an expansion to SOBH, nice expansion I've done all the layouts and GSD files for the current troops types (missing 1 GSD file for Mage and Hero page). I started test building them, to check alignments etc below is the Light Infantry unit: And no i didn't make 15 fox's I did a little photo-shopping (gimp-shopping?)so I have time to test build all the troop types before end of the month . Once all the tests are done I'll bundle everything up and add a post to the march thread Next up the heavy infantry

The most accurate ones are the ones made by Jabbro using his Inkscape trace method. Mine are a bit...looser...in their tracing. I just make sure to get my trace templates set up to be inside the black borders of the figures. I haven't had time of late to do anything fun, like print and cut a Fox army (stupid FCC regulations, grumble, grumble) but I'll let you know when I do and if I run into any GSD difficulties. We need a clapping hands icon for presentations like this, bravo sir! Bravo.

Hmm I might have to try out inkscape tracing again , last time I tried that I ended up with a mess . I'm probably just being picky on the accuracy. A little more work on this army for april. I'll be well off hoard theme when they go in . Paladins in shiny pure white armour clerics in a less ostentatious equipment: Lastly a fox Lord (aka a general option) in red dragon scale armour and a two handed weapon, I'll need to keep thinking for a female version : I'm going to work on one of the 2.5D designs next, hopefully it'll work out.

Thanks for the positive feedback both One of the things I like about paper mini's is I can have a sci-fi and fantasy armies and it doesn't break the bank. Here's my prototype flying hero (male only so far). Still working on the stand . The base is a 50mm square.

Sorry for the slow progress I've finished up the above and half way finished the ballista (colouring to go).
I will continuing working on them as I can but it will be slow as my wife is unwell.
