Well, I cut out my first miniature and now I'm thinking $250 isn't much for a machine that can cut these out. I have a problem though, I only have an iMac and a Linux PC and it looks like I can use OSX if I have Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw, which I don't, or I could just try to use wine with their software. I don't own a copy of windows for the PC I'm on right now, but I have ton of bundled windows CDs for my past computers and notebooks I've re-sold with Linux pre-loaded, so I could try to install from one of those.
Anyway, anyone use their robocutter/Silhouette SD with anything other than windows?

The short answer is no, for OSX at least, I can't speak to Linux issues. The longer answer is that if you are willing to install Paralells on an Intel Mac and then use that to install WinXP it works really well.

I've got Ubuntu with Oracle VirtualBox (which is free) running WindowsXP. It works just fine as long as you get the non open source edition. I have also ran across this site that claims to get the cutter running natively but haven't actually tried it.

That has me intrigued again. Their current software is something designed in 1990 with usability to match. Indeed, which is why I have avoided it like a plague when possible. You'll have to let us know how the new version fares, Squirmy.

And it has arrived - www.silhouetteamerica.com/software.aspxThis blurb is a little annoying though; Two features available in ROBO Master that are still currently under development in Silhouette Studio and scheduled for release late November are: - Open DXF file types - Auto-trace feature for imported images (Please note external images may still be opened into Silhouette Studio at this time and manually traced)Downloading now...

Hmm... it seems like a good feature set. The thing I'm excited about is the the ' Unlimited Undo/Redo' since I'm always screwing up. It looks like I'll have to try it out.

I always assumed the silhouette and robo software are the same reading the above it seems not.
The robo software is annoying enough I can't imagine something worse...

Darn, those are the two main features I use. What else is this thing good for if you can't custom trace or import a custom traced file?
