This set and another of Irish Fianna will be first in my Dark Age Of Adventure line. I'm looking at sticking to the 9th century as my era of choice here, but I'm sure there could be uses in Fantasy campaigns.

These vikings look really great. Love the dents on the shield border.

What? Those Irishers donna have the red hair! Surely there will be a few red-haired fellows in the set.

I've been wanting to get a Song of Arthur and Merlin campaign going... These will definitely help flesh out the ranks.

You will be able to toggle different hair colours and weapons. So have no fear, your ginger Irish are in the set.

OK, just wondering and hoping for some quick feedback on this. I had originally thought to keep the Dark Ages line purely historical, but now I'm wondering if I should not just throw in some awesome celtic beasties. Thoughts?

Celtic Beasties could be their own set for people who don't want to mix their fantasy and their historical pieces. I like it.

My era will range from roughly 700 ad to 1066. So far the forces I'm researching and drawing include: -Vikings -Anglo-Saxons -Fianna and Diberga (pagan Irish warriors) -Irish 'regulars' -Picts -Welsh -Franks (Carolingian)

So very cool!
Any chance of some Arthurian / Late Roman British or some Byzantines?

The Arthurian set is a sure thing. I am looking into the Byzantines as well. They would fit nicely.

What about the Celts? You gotta love the thoughts of a hoards of blood-thirsty berserkers! Tommygun hit the nail on the head. Sure, add them, but as a separate set. Afterall, some people might not need your Vikings, but can't live without your dragons and wyverns! It doesn't matter what you draw! You made the Maguto look cool! Now, let's see what you can do with flying monkeys!

Yesterday I finished drawing the fronts of the Vikings and an exciting Viking sub-set then I drew the fronts for a special set for a new line that I've been kicking around for a while. Today I just worked on the skirmish system. Sigh, I wish I could get it all down to just one or two pages.

I did some playtesting tonight. Finished off with the characters confronting a fort that they have no chance taking so they have fled to get help. The trees, terrain and fort are all World Works Games. Figures by me (mostly, horses were from the dollar store).

Ok, what fort is that???
I've been looking for something "old West-ey" and that's the most analogous I've seen.

The fort would be the sadly retired Seaworks: Skullcove by Worldworks Games. I don't know what the status is. The Huts come from that set too.

I'm in the process of finishing up the Vikings today. I thought you might like to see the process of shading that I use. This one isn't perfect for sure, but it's pretty indicative of my process. I use Photoshop and a Wacom tablet and the image is a scanned pen and ink drawing. The figure doesn't have any weapons because you will be able to swap out weapons and shields on the pdf. I use a magenta for the shading colour. This is just before I make the layer multiply. After the layer has been multiplied. A few highlights and viola. There are a few imperfections to fix up, but overall, it's done. Now to finish the back!

Hey, thanks for that, I actually find that to be very helpful. A very simple and effective method. I'll have to give it a try.

Brilliant...... now I know how they are so crisp (even reduced down to 15mm they still 'pop').

I'm really looking forward to these guys. I think they'd also work very well with Jim's Arthurian figures.
Have fun! Steve

Thanks for the brief tutorial, it helped me finish off a project. These guys look like they'll make great light mercenary bands to either accompany or challenge the 'Armies of Man'.

We are going to use them in a real 'Northern Wastes' chaos army.
