Ok, that is a stupid name, but I didn't want to use some thing that Mr. DAVID OKUM might use. I liked the name "End of the Line," but thought he might use that.
So, in my post ZOMBIES ATE MY HOMEWORK, Adam Souza (I believe) suggested a game on a train.
Well I was working on a project a few months ago called "LUCKY 13" and I started a post here about it... but it got put on-hold with a hundred other projects (because I decided to use Shuffler to make models...)
Anyway, I had a idea to do a game like this only with Whiplash Trigger figures based on Adam's suggestion. With the stuff that RevGunn has done (as currently doing) this has caught my attention (you know me and shiny objects...)
Anyway, I figured that the story would go like this:
The train was highjacked carrying the payroll
Or
The bank was robbed and and gang took over the train...
Or
A telegram came in saying that the train hasn't stopped in two towns and it might be out of control...
Or
There are zombies on the train...
Or
Dennis Hopper is on the train and it if goes under a certain speed, the the Number 55 train is toast...
Ok. You get the idea.
Enter our Heroes (or Hero in solo play)! They ride up as the train speeds along, and they climb onto the deck of the caboose (the starting point. This will ALWAYS be the starting point). The members regroup in the caboose and get ready to seek out the bad guys. Their goal: GO TO THE ENGINE AND STOP THE TRAIN.
The neat thing about this idea is the train is never the same size. The engine is a 3x8 card (as with all of the car), and it gets shuffled into the deck. As the heroes exit the car, they get ready to enter the next one. I chose 3x8 cards for this game because the cars are long enough to put a couple encounter in, and in solo play, you only use the second encounter point (what Dave calls "spawning points"). Also, Shuffler accepts both A4 and 8.5x11 formats leaving a 10x7 grid. I can put two cars on one page.
There will be passenger cars. To prevent the cars from being overly distracting, all of the passengers are hiding in their seats. You know they are there though, especially when the "hostage card" is played. You have to take out the bad guy without letting the passenger get hurt.
The final boss is going to be the one in the Engine. I plan on making a set of Big Boss cards... maybe 6. That way you won't fight the final boss each game (I may even sneak Hodder from DARKMOOK in there).
Ok... that is about all I have so far.
My rules may end up being TOTALLY different than Dave's. That is fine.
So, once I get this done, then what? Since I am making this with Shuffler, the tiles are all copyrighted by Paper Make it! and that kinda thing.
What I might do is play it and if it is any good, then let Dave have a crack at it. I can draw the train cars in Shuffler as a proxy, and if it is ok, Dave can draw his own cards and release it. Like I said, his game would be different than mine, which is fine.
The concepts all written here aren't copywritten, and anyone can make a train game. This is just MY take on it.
Here is the starting and ending tiles I whipped up in Shuffler yesterday afternoon. IMAGINE! You can use Shuffler to make MAPS! Who'd have thought...
