Pretty happy with my sails, very close... Had to take a short detour and work this card up for my brother, we're both pretty happy with it; Cutting and building and thinking today...

Very nice!
Just a small idea: If I understood - what we got here is sails side A (front) and side B (back)?
If so I would consider different lightning/shadows for side B, plus little more darker perhaps?

That's a good idea Mesper, thanks. I'm always a bit leary about shading, I feel that I darken things too much and then the printouts get muddy. One of the things I've started doing (in my head) is thinking about how natural light is going to hit the model and how natural shadows are going to be created, so then I don't have to make them. For an example take a look at Dave Graffam's buildings; he doesn't really shadow the underhanging eves of the roofs in the texuring as they'll naturally be in shadow once the model is built. Anyways, that's some of my thought process. Back to my tweaking.

I hope there aren't too many changes in the final product. There is a lot of flexibility in these little boats. You can do them with two colors of hulls. The wicker cabin is also in two colors. The wooden cabin in two colors. It can be set up to be rowed or masted. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to test this out.
Now I need to get to work on building my wharf area so they have a home.

Been under the weather... For the past week it's been -10F here, and I've been assigned through February to a facility 17 miles from town that's very cold and drafty. So I haven't been in the best of places for thinking clearly due to constant sinus headaches and fatigue from the daily cold commute. It's actually +8F today so I feel a bit better, I was really hoping to be at 100% with this project by now, but it looks like it's still at the ~almost~ point...sigh. It's supposed to get warmer though the week, so I probably won't have to deal with any indoor rainstorms when the heating and sprinkler system pipes break. Hope everybody else is managing to stay warm. edit-> Meanwhile here's a free water tile that I made for presentation purposes; dl.dropbox.com/u/2320000/Junk/Water_tile.pdf

Brrrrrr!! Thatยดs veeeerrryy cold Hehe... COLD? ...it looks as nice, warm azure-blue tropical sea ...it's -24C outside my window and til Friday it might be up (or rather down?) to -32C or even worse... Hmm... perhaps I should design some "hot" scenery minis - kinda Caribbean Pirates or Safari or Fantasy "Inferno Elementals" (and yes, I know, that if you are from Australia or California - you would rather prefer Snowman)

We call that booger-breaker weather here. ;D

We've only gotten to single digits twice this winter. Good enough for me. Has anyone else built these little gems?

It's about time too! ;D A sampan is a relatively flat bottomed Chinese wooden boat from 3.5 to 4.5 m (11.5 to 14.8 ft) long. Some sampans include a small shelter on board, and may be used as a permanent habitation on inland waters. Sampans are generally used for transportation in coastal areas or rivers, and are often used as traditional fishing boats.
This Sampan model measures 4.5 inches in length, it is available in two color shades, comes with a variety of deck shelter options, and has an optional mast and sail.
It is suitable for use with 28-30mm miniatures.
It is intended to be printed on 80-110lb cardstock and is not suitable for playing with in the bathtub.
A bonus six-inch square water tile is also included.rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=99762Price: $2.95usd

Between all the different options, you can easily populate a wharf.
What's the next project?

I'd love to have a group of Japanese Wako (sp?) pirates from Okumarts to populate a bunch of Sampans so they could swarm a merchant junk. ;D

While I'm working on the big Junk project I'm also puttering along on little projects to keep some kind of 'Product Release' momentum going. One thing is a couple of bamboo rafts- The other is these steam-powered creations- All the test-builds are done on these, just muddling through finishing the texture work.

Hmm...it's not promising... ...it's already SUPERB!!! I like very much steam-powered (the background one) robot! For me, after adding some "dirty and rusty" textures + nails (kinda steampunk / afterfall style) - it would be absolutely AWESOME!!! Plus IMO additional advantage is that it's (at least at this stage of development) nicely corresponding/matching Dragnoz's awesome Shock Troopers (The GODS of STEAM). =>>So I would vote for FULL SET (including both 3D and flat versions) of this kind VARIOUS steampunk models!
