I am thinking about getting a Cameo or similar but I am wondering about compatibility with the cut files people have been making for the SD and Robo.
I really don't know anything about these machines so any hand holding or at least a point towards a good resource would be very much appreciated.
I really don't want to be dumping loads of time into troubleshooting or making my own files just to save a small amount of time cutting.

I don't know anything about the new Cameo but my Craft ROBO has been worth every penny and I urge anyone serious about paper modeling to get one.

You won't like my answer. According to Silhouette's customer service, due to a firmware change the Cameo cannot read the registration marks that the SD uses. Since there was no mention of a possible update, I'm guessing they didn't put the firmware on an Eprom. The Cameo uses a 5mm solid square in the upper left corner, and the standard marks elsewhere. They claim it allows the new machine to be more accurate than the SD. Since I don't have a Cameo, I can't verify that. A good point is that if a .studio file is created with the 'Auto' setting for registration marks it will look for the marks appropriate to the machine you have. - Pb

How hard is it to fix the registration marks? Can I just fill in the mark on the top left to make it a square? edit: This guy over at another forum made a .net app to convert files to the new registration marks. Even more interesting is that he found he could manually switch the software to look for the SD registration marks. He also said that the converted files were cut more accurately, so it is still worth converting. fatdragongames.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gsd&action=display&thread=2215&page=3

I had forgotten that Sully had success with the old marks. Sorry about that - it's better to assume the worse when I make the files. Either machine saves large chunks of time, and I can't complain about the accuracy of the SD. It would seem that the accuracy of the file's creator is the true limiting factor. Maybe it's time to ask about the Cameo cutting "outside the box" on older files again. If it could do *that,* I'd definitely start planning on buying one. - Pb
