Poopies. The images on some of the pages don't fit within the margins of my printer. It's not that big of a deal, but if anyone else runs into this, let me know and I can try to reformat the pages a little bit.

Ran out of time, but I did manage to get one long section, one connecting section and the tower built. It's a great little model!

I bet you sent the photo from your phone. Phone images end up sideways sometimes.
Actually, walls are a great way of getting models out of the way. I glued the Mos Eisley diorama to foamboard to hang up out of the way (and keep the cats from ruining it).
Only one of the residents of the nursing home I volunteer at is a big Star Wars fan, so I gave it away ...
I should ask him if he has it on his wall

I just meant is as a friendly joke. It is a pretty fun model, though if I were going to build it out, I might kit-bash it somehow to make the slopes of the mound a little less steep, or put some level surfaces on it, so your minis can stand right up against the wall. Not sure what the answer is, but there has to be one that's not too involved.

Not sure what the answer is, but there has to be one that's not too involved. Don't follow you here, Jeff. There's a wooden walkway right inside of the wall for defending minis to stand on. The outer side's slope is steep because that's exactly how such defences were created, precisely to PREVENT anyone being able to get close to the wall easily - see for instance this Wikipedia page on the early medieval European motte-and-bailey style of fort/castle. Even now, up to a millennium or more after they were built, the mounds are still very difficult to climb (there's one in my home town).

I didn't realize the slope wasn't the same on the inside and the outside. Thanks for setting me straight. Edit: Yeah, now that I take a closer look at yifferman's photos, I see what you are talking about. D'oh! Silly me.

Had to crop out the background, all done now, thanks CW team! onemonk.com/guest-dl.htmlI'm thinking I should put out a call for "Lost Forum Treasures", for all of those random uploads scattered throughout the forum like Easter eggs. If members gathered them up into pdf's then I could add them to the Guest section on the site. It would be even better if they have a preview picture, but that would just be a nice bonus.

I don't get to play a lot of D&D, and my only D&D partner in crime right now is my 12-year-old son. I struggle to pull together well-balanced encounters for him, since it's just the two of us, and I want the focus to really be on him. And, he is playing a wizard.
I think this model has given me an idea. He's gonna have to kill some ogres. The thing is, the town's militia will have done their damage before the ogres breach the walls and wipe them out. Who will save the day? Probably some low-level wizard and his sidekick fighter/meat shield/also-the-dungeon-master. Assuming I have enough miscellaneous buildings to fill out the town, the goal will be to pick off the ogres and keep the civilian casualties as low as possible.
It's a snowy mess outside, so I'll rope him into building a couple more fort sections!

If I remember correctly, this thread came about when someone was looking for a palisade surrounding GM64's Laketown buildings. Seems totally appropriate to me

I finished up a couple fort sections today, and will be moving on to finishing up the hoard packaging for March! I ended up using paperclips (and lots of em) to hold the pieces together, and that's how I have the walls in place, too.

That looks really good. Re-skin that in a stone texture...
Is the base of the tower the same width as the wooden path along the inside of the palisade?
I think I'd like to design a corner tower

The pallisade alone on that is great.
I know I wanted a pallisade for something. I just can't remember what.

Hey mproteau, I'm thinking about getting some of this old stuff back up on my blog. Mind if I borrow your photo to use as an image for this...? I don't have any of this thing actually assembled. GM64
