Hey. I'm currently making paper action figures using customized 3D body renders (Genesis from DAZ Studio) as the body, and then I draw whatever head, clothes, etc I want on him/her. This is good if A: you want to make a series of realistic human-bodied characters without it taking forever, B: you want to learn about human anatomy so you can draw bodies better in the future, or C: You like 3D but don't have the know how or money to make a 3D model of your character, which is quite ridiculous building a 3D model from scratch just so you can make a flat paper figure out of it. You guys should really try DAZ Studio, it has lots of options and changes you can make to your characters' body, and it's free, high quality, and real easy. Some people at a fan art forum I used to go to said I should learn about proportion, so this is a fun way, and I'm using it as "training wheels." Also, it's good for games like my fighting game, now using the old "karate on a stick" method and called "Foot of the Chinese Dragon," since it's supposed to look like a 3D fighting video game. I'll post figures soon! Please let me know if you like this idea!

I use DAZ Studio 3D ver 4 (the current one-it's still free). Once you get the hang of it, it's like playing with dolls: get a figure, dress it, equip it, pose it, then render. Retexturing is easy once you figure out where the software put the texture maps, so you can redo any figure, clothing, armor, equipment, etc. Integrating your own models is easy as well. I wanted an AT missile weapon based on the current German shoulder launched weapon, so designed one in my 3D modeling software, then used it with standard commercial figures. Here's the link for using DAZ Studio 3D as an artist's tool for line art (not free--it's $12.95): www.daz3d.com/shop/utilities-resources/tutorials/daz-studio-as-an-artists-tool-reference-for-lineart/

Sorry guys, but you'll have to wait a couple of weeks until I show you pictures of my semi 3D figures, because of what happened yesterday: First off, my printer died (about 5-7 years old), and secondly, my roomate destroyed my laptop (I'm using my old backup dinosaur now). Thankfully, I might get an HP Deskjet within the next couple of weeks, and I salvaged the hard drive from my laptop, and my roomate agreed to buy me another one, same model, so I'll probably be able to swap HDDs.
