Off to a good start. I've learned to trust first impressions when it comes to things visual. My first thought was 'isn't he long in the trunk?'. Then I gave it a longer look to see if my first impression was wrong. Overall height to width is good, but he is almost twice as long from groin to shoulder, than ground to groin. That's probably a bit too much. I think that if you brought the groin level up just a tad, slightly lengthening the legs and shortening the torso, it would be a good effect. I wouldn't tweak it much, just a little.
Or I could be wrong ...

I think VK (not com ) is right. If you picture the arms hanging straight down they should hang to middle thigh. You could almost just remove the area between the belt and the other belt(?) above it. This may mean you loose the cool buckle behind the hands, but maybe you could move the design to the sheild?

>>> Vermin King (regarding proportions needs to be slightly changed) -- yes, generally agreed! But phantom -- please do NOT try to make him too stricte human-like, well he IS a DWARF so some proportions might (if not should?!) be different compared to human body -- ie dwarfs are commonly associated with humble and podgy with short legs and wide shoulders beings.>>> Cowboylelenad -- "remove the area between the belt and the other belt(?) above it" -- again agreed! >>> Phantombaz -- "I'll put it right and pull up his trousers" -- youp! Additional suggestions: -his right leg -- shift/move more to the right -- ie IMHO it would be better if legs would be kinda "/\" shape then "||" (and now they are something like "\|"). Plus it would look better if both legs are proportional/equal (lenght-wise). -wrist -- wider slightly? -shield (location and position) -- kinda not natural -- imagine WHERE is his (hidden behind the shield) forearm/wrist/palm? Assuming his arm is not cutted-off -- shield should be differently positioned. So I'd suggest: a) try to move it slightly to the left (from viewer point of view) AND turn it horizontally perhaps b) keep shield's position but make it significantly bigger, however still shift to the left could be good idea. // Curiosity -- where is giant / long sword??? //

>>> Vermin King // Curiosity -- where is giant / long sword??? // \ The Long swords are a specialized unit, where as this dwarf is just a clan worrier. I will be making about 3-5 different clan worrier, + a bannerman, musician and captain/hero/Load. I am trying to make an army, something similar to GW's Warhammer army, so i want about 7-8 units, I guess my over aim is to make a free army (ies), as i had such much fun playing warhammer, although i didnt have the money to keep up with what my friends where buying, i had a large dwarf army that could be used with two or three GW games. So i guess i would like to try and pass on the enjoyment i had with building free armies so that other can play. I know my these figures are not up to the standard of many on there, and a my drawing need work, but i am enjoying it. The only problems I running into is turning these figures into flat, re-sizing and keeping a good Pixel restitution, and making a thick black cut out line around the figure. I'm using Photoshop at the mo,i know many people use GIMP but I can seem to down load it. anyways. thanks for the advise.

Your figures are far better than anything I've done.
I actually wish I had the talent to do this type of thing, but alas, I can't afford the time to get good ...

I know my these figures are not up to the standard of many on there, and a my drawing need work, but i am enjoying it. ... The only problems I running into is turning these figures into flat, re-sizing and keeping a good Pixel restitution, and making a thick black cut out line around the figure. ... I'm using Photoshop ... The most important thing is that you enjoy it! Then your drawings are better each time and we can see improvement - so keep working! And do not worry about some "technical" issues on this stage -- you have already your first "mini-set", remember? Forum link:cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=figuredesign&thread=4002&page=1#43028Plus if you are familiar with Photoshop, there are some easy-to-learn tips and techniques. So you can count on some help here... But first things first -- develop your minis. BTW: There is on this forum post which might be VERY HELPFULL for you and many others... " Jim's Design aids" - really, really GREAT Jim's work and very useful thread!!! There is (among many other useful tips) full page with rulers and... various figures with different posing -- very useful as "template" for proportions, specific for paper-minis positioning etc... Forum link:cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=designresources&thread=1907&page=1#34262So read, think, print, develop your own style/adapt to your style, try to use suggestions, experiment etc... I'm pretty sure that it will be very helpfull and soon we can all enjoy full army of dwarfs!
