(Note: I'm reposting this from the Genet Models workbench because it might be of interest here as well.) One of the other problems I needed to solve was a hardware compatibility issue with the Silhouette Cameo cutter, which uses a different registration mark setup than the Silhouette SD and Craft ROBO machines that preceded it, and it has trouble dealing with the older registration mark setup. I solved that on my end by creating a separate set of PDFs for the Cameo, but that doesn't help customers who already have a stack of printouts with the old registration marks, and I sure as heck am not going to spend the next several weeks tediously re-stamping 10 years worth of stuff. So, it had to be something that would work with existing printouts and not require me to go back and redo a mountain of old PDFs. The basic idea is there's a sheet of new Cameo square regmarks for the bottom left corner. You slit them out and stick them over the old Silhouette SD/Craft ROBO regmark, and shazam, Bob's your uncle. Well, that's the theory anyway. *grin* I've been wanting to do this for a while, but since I don't have a Cameo and I had no luck the last time I tried to find a Cameo user on the WWG forum, this ended up on the back burner until today, when a Cameo user finally got in touch with me. Thanks, Duane! BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!In theory again, this should be compatible with everyone's models, not just my own. The reason I think that's the case is because the size of that one square Cameo regmark seems to remain constant regardless of how large the other regmarks are. So, it should also work for models from WWG, Fat Dragon Games, and anyone else who has been doing GSD or Studio files for their models. Grab it here: Silhouette Cameo Regmark Patch KitLet me know if it works.

Weeelllll....I'm not comfortable with that idea. I mean, I'm a competitor and I don't actually have any sort of relationship with FDG, nor do I actively post on their forum. I'd feel seriously crass dropping in out of the blue and going "Hey, here's some toe-stepping spammy spammy spam bye xoxo" and then running off into the sunset clapping a pair of coconuts together.
Cardboard Warriors, on the other hand...everybody's fans and customers seemingly end up here at some point, and lots of different artists and their customers also post industry news here. I figured posting it here was a safe, comfortable option that didn't require me to keep track of eleventeen billion duplicate threads outside of the Genet Models and WWG forums. *grin*

You forgot to cackle madly while riding off into the sunset. I'll point the FDG folks this way, thanks for doing this. I once had to justify the purchase of coconuts to the university accounting department, purchase of consumable with university funds is a spanking offense. So I cantered into their offices banging the coconuts together so they could see why I had purchased them.

Heh. I'd have paid money to see the looks on their faces when you did that.
Thanks for offering to pass the word along!

Thanks Mel, and Squirmydad for pointing it out to me. I suspect this is one of those things most folks 'mean to get to' and rarely do.
I went ahead and posted a link to this thread over at FDG's site, so folks will be able to find it easily. And I reminded folks check out your stuff, Mel. I couldn't give a direct plug since I haven't built any of your models - haven't needed futuristic stuff - but what I've seen & read has all been positive.
Thanks again.

Aw, thanks. I'd originally done it just to bring all of my old pre-Cameo models up to date, and it didn't dawn on me until I was doing the instructions that there was no reason why it wouldn't work for everybody else's models too. I mean, that corner regmark stays the same size and stays in the same place no matter what, and it was too good not to share with everybody else. Also worthy of a facepalm, because every other measure I'd thought of up until then was...um, well...the name "Rube Goldberg" comes to mind.

Does anyone know a good way do this the other way? I have an sd, and I just realized that a bunch of MIP stuff I recently bought only have cameo reg marks. I know I could import into gimp, erase the reg marks, export as a png, merge with the cutfiles, add sd reg marks, and print from silhouette, but that can become rather time consuming. Thanks for any help.

Having never done a robo-cutter, I don't know if it is possible, but I was wondering if templates could be done for the various reg marks as a png template with all the blank areas set to 'color as alpha', so that you can just paste the template over any page and be a workable file. Is that possible?

The older SD registration mark that you'd need to add to cover the cameo square is identical to the other "L" marks on the page. So yeah, you can go printing a bunch of little L marks. Cut them so that the corner of the L is right against the lower-left corner of what you cut out, and align it with the lower-left corner of the Cameo box regmark. Should work. Haven't tried it, but it should work.
I mean, it can't be any less reliable than the hand-drawn reg marks I've traced onto pages that I forgot to turn the reg mark layer on for, can it?

I just started updating all of those files from GSD's to Studio 3 versions since it's been seven years since I made those and the old files don't work well with the new cutting software. However, I still have all of the old files and I can simply add them back into the OBS downloads labelled as GSD versions alongside the newer Studio3 versions. If you PM me a list of your purchases I can expedite those re-uploads. Sorry for any trouble this has caused you.

I thought about that, and it would be slicker, but for the most part it's easier to just add to the download files the previous GSD compatible versions. I'm having to make all new versions of the cutfiles for studio 3 as it just doesn't like the old GSD format from CraftRobo.

Where else is this patch file available? The link leads to a 404, file not found.
I downloaded some DGM files (Watchtower) which come with GSD files and I want to use them on my Cameo but, as mentioned, the cameo is not correctly recognizing the registration marks.
Thank you.

www.genetmodels.com/fun-stuff/Although, if you havenโt printed anything yet, you may do better merging the art into the cutfiles and printing from Studio.

Thanks, mproteau. I did go ahead and merge the art into the cut files and printed from Studio. Much easier and was not as slow as I feared. Hoping to actually finish this week.
