EDIT (by Nik): Official ListJan- ~None~ Feb- Sci-fi Mar- Wild West & Oriental Adventures Apr- Critters & Creatures May- World War Weird Jun- Vehicles & Scenery Jul- Fantasy Aug- Chaos Unleashed & Halloween Sep- Real World Armies - Modern & Ancient Oct- Christmas Wars Nov- Super Heroic Dec-
The last year or so... 2010 Sep- Halloween Oct- Fantasy Monsters Nov- Christmas Wars Dec- Robots, Cyborgs and Droids 2011 Jan- Fantasy NPC, races and characters Feb- Sci-fi Civilians Mar- Wild West, Cowboys and Indians Apr- Forest Creatures and Animals May- WWII, and Weird War 2 Jun- 3D Vehicles/Tanks Jul- Sci-fi Scenery Aug- Modern conflict Infantry, Land, Air and Sea Sep- Beastmen and Mutants Oct- Fantasy and Sci-fi Sports Nov- Super Heroes and Villains Dec- Greek and Roman Era Ancients
Instead of starting from scratch, I was thinking of just kinda merging the two lists, keeping what was most successful, and combining similar categories. 2012 Jan- Fantasy Feb- Sci-fi Mar- Wild West Apr- Critters & Creatures May- World & Weird Wars Jun- 3D Vehicles Jul- Chaos Unleashed Aug- Halloween Sep- Modern & Ancients Oct- Christmas Wars Nov- Super Heroic Dec- Scenery
I think all the previous themes are covered, and the Holiday sets are early enough to be released in time to get used in the month of the holiday. Thoughts, suggestions, personal insults, etc

Great job! It's good to get the ball rolling on this so we have it in place come new years. I might suggest merging chaos unleashed and Halloween (they seem similar) and using the empty month as a stop gap. Getting the HOARDs out can be a rather demanding job and that would allow for catchup. I would put the 'empty' month in front of a popular theme (monsters, etc...) to allow for more time to submit something on topic.

I know this can fall under the other categories but what about anthropomorphised Animals/Plant month

either option is fine as long as the hoards keep the clause "... or feel free to submit other figures that do not match the theme" or something like that.

I love the holiday-themed sets best. I haven't used them for anything but plan on trotting the Christmas Wars set out again this year. Take that Christmas Village!
How about a set of monsters that haven't been done before, not even in metal?
Of course, I can't draw to save my life, and am ecstatic that all of you contributors carry on what Jim started.
Thanks to all of you!

I do like Nick's list, as long as in the categories we have the encouraging line about submitting even if it doesn't fit the theme. We have a tendency to submit Starring Characters, so an encouragement for civilians and props occassionally could help.

I would love a hoard theme we never had before: [glow=red,2,300]Cthulhu[/glow] Iääää! Subscribed. Though, we could make it a bit more flexible by calling it: 'Weird Tales'. So every Smith/Howard/Derleth maniac is also included. I would even pack the WWWeird topic into this category!

I'd like to see moderns and ancients (which I presume to mean anything pre-gunpowder, as opposed to Sumerians, Hittites, et al). However, if the idea is to gather basically all the historicals into a single category, I see it; although, I really think they should be separate..

=> Sirrob01 - Plants - splendid idea, plus I would expand this into "2D Scenery" - trees, bushes, rocks, way-points, park fountains/sculptures, info-boards (like Western board with "Wanted" posters) etc... => Vermin King - Civilians - youp! there is lack of "scenery characters" - all sorts of commoners, peasants, travelers... => Enpeze + Paladin - Weird Tales - I like it! (BTW: J. Verne giant-octopus attacking boat belongs here?) => Hackbarth - astronauts sounds fine (although regarding spaceships I'm not convinced - IMHO more 3D models category?), assuming that you mean not Sci-Fi/retro-Sci-Fi subdivision but real/history based figures vide moon landing, first step on the moon, repairing/flying in free space etc? => General question - "Chaos Unleashed" - like what... some nightmare creatures from the darkest deeps (IMO overlapping with Weird Tales and/or any kind of fantasy or Sci-Fi monsters) Or perhaps I simply don't understood this category...

mesper, 'Weird Tales' is the name of an American Short Story Mag from the early 1920ies to the 1940ies until its disappearance because of bankruptcy. It was one of the few publication mediums of the greatest American classical horror/scifi/fantasy authors of that era, especially Lovecraft, Smith and Howard. So I would subsume everything which falls into this era - from Dreamlands, Cthulhu-Myth, Conan, WWWeird, Classic Superheroes, King Kong towards Atomic Mutants Hollywood ('Them!' (1954), 'Tarantula' (1951), 'The Beast from 20.000 Fathoms' (1953)) and Classic Aliens ('The Thing from Another World' (1951), 'Invaders from Mars' (1953), 'The Blob' (1958)) - even Classic Colonial Adventure (like 'Indiana Jones' as a modern adaptation). Verne and Wells I would pack into Victorian SciFi/Steampunk - as this has a very specific aesthetical quality (lots of steel). There is another species of Classic Romantic Fantasy beginning with Dunsany (Pegana-Myth) and overlapping with early Lovecraft (Dreamlands) and even Tolkien (Silmarillion) - but now we are in subclassifying mode ... ;D.

Or perhaps I simply don't understood this category... The HOARD theme is just a suggestion, or a source of inspiration for a mini. No miniature is refused for not agreeing with the theme. So the themes are more open than closed. Astronauts is anything that would fit the word: Star Trek miniatures, "Ancient Astronauts", Flash Gordon, a martian rover, a black monolith (ok, that's cheating :-D)... But my intent was indeed some realistic near future or alternate history (Soviet Lunar landing, Chinese, Indian, Brazilian Space Programs, Colliers Magazine style space development...)

Added link in first post to Blank Page with Cutting File Registration marks. If you're going to submit a page full of figures, which is awesome by the way, please try an fit them within the registration marks. It will save someone else from redesigning your layout, and make it easier for someone to make cutting files for your creations, speeding up their inclusion to the main site.

Hey guys-been so long since I submitted I'm not sure who to send the files to! Who is the best person to send the PDF to? Cheers! A I have been getting some help compiling the HOARD so it is best to post on the 'current' (meaning one that is open) HOARD thread. Then whoever is compiling the HOARD for that month should contact you if needed (but it easier to just grab it from online if the post is hi-res enough).

I noticed this hasn't been updated in a while. Are the monthly hoards still happening? Uhmm... Hmm... In theory yes. Unfortunately I have kinda let this slip by the wayside. It is quite a bit of work to compile the HOARDs. If you want to submit a figure to a specific HOARD theme that's not yet open (anything from July-Nov), I'll open that for you and maybe we can jumpstart it. Otherwise you can submit to the current HOARD and we'll add it to the compilation when it's released. I'll try to get back to this and get a few more up on the website.
