I was wandering if someone could design a pdf page of flight bases for me that are like the ones the Hybrid Buzzers use, only white, and able to be cut to different lengths (like half inch increments) that fits on a 1"x1" base. I wanted to try and use something like that with the M.A.D. Drones and the blank One Monk bases, lol. Thanks! ;D

Actually, shape and assembly wise that looks perfect! How tall are they from the base to the top?
I have an ideal height in mind for the drones. I wanted to try and have the drones hover around head high (slightly less or more) to a Terra force figure. Maybe quarter inch is a bit closer to slight height variations, with a 1" wide base.
Edit: Ok, I've never really been good at estimating height so I measured a couple Terra force minis. They come out to about 1 1/2 inch at top of head height. Maybe bases at that height (1 1/2 inch) then two more, one at 1 1/4 inch and one 1 inch.
Thanks a ton Parduz! ;D

Lol, I'm still amazed at how fast you were able to put these together, they look amazing! I'll try and get them printed tomorrow and build a couple drones and test them out and let you know! Thanks a ton again! ;D Lol, I also got to thinking the main reason I was also thinking about a 1/4 in height variation is due to the way the M.A.D. Drones are build/designed, such as the shield drone model is flat on the bottom where the base would mount but the spot where the base would mount to the gun or sniper drone is recessed in the model itself a bit, lol. So if the base was the same height then the shield drone would always be higher than the others, lol. Just my random thoughts, lol.

I've made a cutfile for this design for 1", 2", 3" and 4" heights. It's inspiring another design idea... dl.dropbox.com/u/3838990/flight%20stands.studioThe top of the pillar is too small for use with 25-30mm plastic figures. I'd have to widen it if I wanted to use these... I like the idea of some textures, like sky and a inch height measurement... Note that I only traced the smallest size, then shrunk/stretched copies to get the heights I wanted. You could do the same.

Completely OT, I'm sorry. But it is a little of time that when I read the posts I think about this thing. I don't use, for now, most of your work ( automatic cutting machine files ) but I always read with pleasure and interested all your posts. I think that your work is very useful for all users of this forum, including myself, and not just for them. Even for producers and for any other customer. So, imho, you're really one of the mainstays of this community, and I I like to thank you very much for this thing. Ciao

I'm glad my work is appreciated. The supportive community here is why this is my main board - and even when I post to another place, I cross-post here.

Is the file still avaliable? Sorry, i thought they was already taken. The file is up again but, being a dropbox folder, i sometime make room for other things, so if someone have a more stable place to put that file, i think it would be better.

Lol, I've been redownloading a few models to my new External Hard drive to back them up. I clicked on the link for the reduce size flight bases but it says file not found, were these taken down?

Just discovered this thread and now I need to make some of @oldschool DM's stands out of the clear plastic from those hard to open tool wrappers.

That's a pretty good idea, not sure why it never occurred to me to print on transparency hahahaha!

That's a pretty good idea, not sure why it never occurred to me to print on transparency hahahaha! I'm pretty sure it only works if you don't need white, or probably yellow as well, since inkjet inks are dyes, and can't produce lighter hues without relying on the whiteness of paper showing through. As long as all you need is black, or shades so close to black that it won't matter if you can't tell the difference, though, you probably can come up with use cases.

I usually keep everything.... which means that i have to find in what Hard Disk i've stored that file. I'll look for it in the weekend... and if I'm not replying back on this before monday, feel free (no: pls do) to remind me that i have to search for that file.

Ok, i've found the old PDF: www.dropbox.com/s/ukdwss9z9gb4a8p/Flight%20Bases.pdf?dl=0Then, i thought that i could satisfy oldschooldm suggestions, so i created a new versions, with a larger top (you can always cut it away), sky gradient (with a bit of bleeding in case someone will make cut files), elevation markers (1, half and quarter inches, and only on one side of the pillar, so you may use them as "front" marker also) all as layers, so you can print what you want. (sorry, did'nt took the picture with the markers active)I did not try to cut and mount them, so if i've made any mistake just tell me and i'll solve it www.dropbox.com/s/ywnsv5nrv1exjuc/Flight%20Stand%20New.pdf?dl=0Again, i'd be happy if someone could upload everything in a more stable host than my dropbox folder.

Made some with clear plastic packaging. They're pretty dang stable too. Need to make some higher ones as there's a few minis the 1.5 inch ones won't fit over. I really like the idea you have of mounting flying figures on clear plastic, instead of using black-printed cardstock to hold them up the way I've always done it. I am definitely going to look into using that technique. I need to see how well the plastic works with the Litko bases I normally use, but if I can find plastic stiff enough to stand and flexible enough to fit into the curved slots, I am totally stealing this idea!

More details, please! What plastic did you use and how did you mark/cut the pattern?

I am definitely going to look into using that technique. I need to see how well the plastic works with the Litko bases I normally use, but if I can find plastic stiff enough to stand and flexible enough to fit into the curved slots, I am totally stealing this idea![/quote] It's a little hard to find packaging with plastic thick enough to work, and it's a bit of a pain to cut them out the way I do, but I really like the end results. I've found that battery packaging or hand tool packaging works the best. Fortunately I work in grounds maintenance so I can find it often enough. More details, please! What plastic did you use and how did you mark/cut the pattern? I used the clear plastic from the packaging you'd find on something like a pack of batteries or a smoke detector. Fortunately based on the box design I can use a lot thinner and flimsier plastic than the kind I use on the flying miniatures. I just measured it and cut the different sizes with my metal ruler and xacto knife. I used painters tape to hold them together how I wanted them then applied to the inside of the seams with a toothpick. Once I get ahold of some more packaging I'll make a little video. It's really simple, just tedious and you've gotta be careful with the epoxy. Maybe a printout would be helpful to lay down and use as a pattern for cutting, but to be honest just I used the basic idea of your fold flat stand oldschooldm I just changed the measurements and did away with the extra tabs. You could probably keep them and just glue them, but I preferred the cleaner look of no tabs. One advantage to the thicker plastic is you can score it like paper for where you want your bends. I didn't have enough surface area of the material to do it with each one but it definitely helps. I still put a bead of epoxy on the interior of every corner/edge to give it strength and I'm surprised at how sturdy they ended up being, I usually overkill on glue and fasteners since I'm fairly clumsy and rough with my gear. Once I get a good variety of sizes/heights that I like I may make a few to smash and knock around to just see how durable they are. Wouldn't mind finding a more precise tip/applicator for the epoxy as well as I had a few smearing issues. Pretty pleased with the gorilla glue clear epoxy though.

This is the kind of packaging I'm talking about, but come to think of it you could probably just use the kind you use for a cake or box of doughnuts from the grocery store. I'll grab a few on the way home from work and let you know how it worked.

If you have pets, the packaging from Frontline, Pet Armor, etc. works well, too. I use it for flying minis, but it is too thick to use for windshields and windows in vehicles

Someone wouldn't happen to have these flight bases still would they? I went to print some last night and for the life of me I can't seem to find them (should have been in my bases file. I wander if I mistakenly put them in another file lol). Thanks in advance!

Was thumbing through some models today and realized the flight bases from the Armor Grid: Mech Attack Air Brigade set make great flight bases for a lot of other minis/models lol!
