Yeah... I finally did a Rakshasa that is pretty original. Any thoughts?

Hey, CBL, Thanks for the tips. Does this look better?

I think the real trouble you're running into with that demon is that his torso is facing forward, while is hips are at a 3/4's angle. Everything below the waist looks fine on its own, and everything above the waist looks fine on its own but together they look a little off.
I think the easiest way to fix it would be to make his right leg point forward like you've done with the left leg. The more difficult fix would be to redraw the torso so that the pose matches the angle suggested by his legs.

I *think* this is better, but still not 100%. In case you were unaware, I switched computers, and I have had NOTHING but issues. As you can see, the black border has some streaking and faded issues. This is actually *better* than I have been able to do. I am not sure just what this means for the future of Grey Matter Games, but if I can get this to turn around, then I can get my sets out there again. Only time can tell...

Dude, thats better already than many of the awesome kits for download here. But, the fix is trivial - Magic Wand and Black Fill. Amirite?

I am assuming you mean by "Magic Wand" that is a feature in Photoshop/Gimp? I am not really good with these (as I draw and color everything by hand). I basically use Gimp to clean up the image and make the borders darker (true black) when the images are scanned. I would appreciate any help you could offer for this. (Please, oh please, oh please). By Amirite, I am assuming you are asking me if that is what this figure is (if not then I just made myself look stupid, but I am used to that). Actually, I am working on a set of Warmancers that are non-traditional battle wizards. I am trying to come up with wizards without long white beards and pointy hats. This has been a lot of fun for me. I decided to do a counter to my Xiang-Wu Akuma from my XIARN DYNASTY EoW set. I figured it would be another four-armed demon with two swords. This one, however, is more organic. The Xiang-Wu was comprised of three brothers tied eternally together to form the demon. This one is more of a combination of Rikus, Goro and Hellboy (at least in my mind). The name, HANNOK, was a Klingon character I used in my RPG from 20 years ago. He was a Klingon, so I decided to incorporate that into his forehead. All-in-all, pretty original if nothing else. Any way, if you could please let me know about the Magic Wand... The fill bucket got me this far, but not quite there... Thanks for your help. David

I am getting pretty excited about this set. I had a LOT of issues, and thanks to some great advice from some friends here (like BraveSirKevin, OldSchoolDM, and SoloLuca), I am back on track, and *might* have this set done by the projected date of 3/1/13! Any thoughts?

Here is a picture of the backs. Why do they look SO 3D? Partially because of the way I draw and color them, but also how I "shape" the figures when they are finished. I make the torsos rounded, and fold the arms out (like an "ohm" it you looked straight down on it). I even designed the Priestess's cape to be able to wrap around to make her more 2.5D. Any thoughts?

I'm likin' the wrap around cloak. In response to your direct question: the hip thing is looking better.

Thanks. I tried to move it over, and filled out the right (viewer's left) thigh a bit.
I am loving the feel of the set. All are going to be "named figures" that can be considered "limited edition figures." These Warmancers are heroes that fight, and are like celebrities in their own right.
Kid One: Mommy, can we go to the Arena today? I hear the half-time show is going to feature Mesper's Band!
Mother: You know how violent and dangerous those games are.
Kid Two: But, Mom... I want to get Paku's autograph to complete my collection!
Mother: We'll discuss it with your Father when he comes in from the fields. Now wash up for dinner, you two...

Looking great. You figured out the magic-wand thing. I did want to bring you to speed on the other reference: By Amirite, I am assuming you are asking me if that is what this figure is (if not then I just made myself look stupid, but I am used to that) Sorry for the reference to the obscure meme...

Gotcha! Or should I say, "Yesurrite." Yes, I am afraid to try anything new, and I saw the "Wand" and I thought I would try it out... thanks for the pointer! You will be rewarded (once the set comes out).

Working on my "large figure" for the new set... I call it the TARIQ. It has six legs (which is kind of hard to make out in this pencil sketch) and will stand about 15 feet (75mm) tall, to the eye. Feel free to offer any Parduzzing, or suggestions. It is still in pencil form, so any changes at this point are easy to fix.

Here is my Dark Elf Runemancer. She will have runes all over she skin and her body serves as her spellbook. Any thoughts?

Hi David (BTW when did you stop being Kiladecus?) I know this is fantasy, but I always thing a dash of practicality helps with the suspension of disbelief (see my un-needed ramblings about heraldry on Labrat's dwarf thread ) Anyway, if this character is going to read spells off of runes on her body her forearms are going to be one of the most practical places to put spells. She probably doesn't want those bracers unless they are covered in runes too. It is hard to read off your shins while standing, you might replace bracers with greaves if you want to give her some armour. She has one of the most active poses I remember coming from you, well done! Static poses are my big challenge. Your Rakshasa is also "leaning in the right direction" (hey c'mon, YOU do it!) BTW I didn't comment on the Tariq because it is hard to tell what is going on in the rough sketch. It makes a generally scary impression, which I think is what you are going for.

First off, I will always be "kiladecus." I just changed it the other day, because now I am trying to be known for my work, and not as a prudish, "class clown." I never actually said she "reads" the runes... she touches them, they glow and the spell goes off. I guess it is more of "point and click," or possibly a Rune App. It was during a huge battle did she develop the Macarena! As for the rest of it, thanks! I am trying to get more dramatic poses. I think the things I am most proud of with this figure is the face and feet. She actually looks like a female, and her feet look like feet. My females normally look "manly" because I draw mostly male figures. Yeah, the Tariq didn't translate to the scanner well. He needs a lot of work yet.

Strangely, I had noticed that the feet looked good. Didn't know it was something you were working on or I would have mentioned

Thanks, CBL! ;D I just keep trying to improve, not only with every set, but every figure. I have been working on figure sets for Dark Skull this week, so when I get a little time to draw, I jump at the chance. I am hoping to get her back done and colored tonight. I am so freaking exhausted... But at least I know that I can layout 3 full sets of figures in 5 days. Just a couple more sets to go, and then I can start my NEXT big project.

I have the figures laid out... just need to finish the last Wizard. I am still trying to wrap up the Tariq issues, and I had a great idea hit me in my sleep. It will be a LOT of work, but honestly, it could be an TERRIFIC idea (I am just trying to decide if I really want to bother with it because it is just a filler piece to round out the set).

Did you know that SAKKAR had a daughter? I will be rolling out a few more Serpens as the sets get some "love" from me throughout the year. Here is the last of the Warmancers for the set. I may add a couple "larger" figures if time allows, but at this point, I am not sure how that is going to work. So far, the Midian Knights have the most Warmancers in their forces. The humans do as well (primarily the Xiarn Dynasty). Not one K'Vyk Warmancer to be seen... and as for the rest, only time will tell. (We know that my Goblin and Orc armies will have access to magic, because Ogg of Ur and Paku BOTH wield magic, and they are the only Orc and Goblin I have released at this point). ;D Feel free to comment... ask questions and Parduz, if you wish.

Looks good David... Just a tip: The snake lady's balance is off. It looks like she's going to fall over at any moment. Easy fix though, just send the tail back the other way, so that the whole body looks almost like an upside-down question mark.

Thank Kevin. I spent over an hour trying to get that tail right... I literally flipped it back and forth trying to make it work. I decided it was "close enough" when I got tired of messing with it.
It is hard to make something that has no real bone structure look like it should. I will mess with the tail as I get time (which until I can wrap up this DSS stuff, won't be happening soon).
I will take your advice and get her tail right, so I can get this set out.
I may just wait until I can get the set out the way I want it instead of releasing the rulebook and cards separate from the figures.
I considered getting the figures out this week and getting the game itself out in two weeks and bundling all the sets together. I know how I am... if I put it off, I will just keep adding figures. If I wait too long, I will lose interest and never finish it.
I want to get this wrapped up so I can go back and revise my Era Of War rulebook, and get the 2.0 version out (the rules will be the same, just a better laid out version of the rules and more pictures to help clarify things). [This will of course be a free upgrade to download from people that have purchased the original set].

Very nice figurine! Though agree with bravesirkevin regarding balance. For even better overall proportions and balance I'd also enlarge snake's hips and tail. Then I'd go for smaller right palm.

Yep, you are both right. My wife comments all the time that a woman's figure should have the shoulders and hips even, with a thinner waist. I guess that applies to snake women, too. Here is the snake lady with a wider set of hips, and a more direct, head-on tail. the back wraps around, so I can add some of the underbelly to the tip of the tail (which will balance out the coloring of the back, and I can color the skin so that will keep the front from being too yellow.... I am pretty happy with the results. Thanks, guys!

Is she fatter, friend ? ;D

"Does this spear make me look fat?" My recommendation... say "NO!" She's not fatter, she is hippier... meaning she has broader hips. It gives her more of an hour-glass figure. Now, here she is finished.... But, if she's finished, and she is the last one in the set, does that mean you are going to release it now? No, what that means is I have one week to make the cards and the rules (and finish the last set for Dark Skull Studios).

Just finishing up some new templates and the Spell cards. I just need to do the Warmancer Character Cards now. Here are the backs of the cards and some samples of the Spell Cards. Once again, any thoughts?
