Hi guys! (and gals ;D) it's srw1417 again. You've all heard of 2.5d right? It's kind of like the crossover for paper craft and traditional standing miniatures. Anyway, I saw some MWO mechs and thought I should try to make some. So, I need you to look at the MWO site and start sending me requests! Once created, (and if ) they will be posted as free templates in the gallery. Don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out!

About me, you can do whatever you like, i like them all (well... i like any mech in Battletech, some are more ... silly... to my eyes than others... i think i like more the one more close to the old japan-style.... like the good ol'Marauder).
I've tried to imagine how to make the same things, but i never found a solution that was both beautiful and feasible (for my hands).
So i'd be courious to know what your "build approach" will be...

Well, thank you for being the first poster!
I'm not really sure what "Japanese-style" mech means, but have you checked out the Mechwarrior Online: Battlemechs page? I think I would most likely do one of those mechs.

I have been an advocate of 2.5D for years. I still think it is the best combination of a quick build and table presence. You can do 3d paper figures, but for all the work involved, you might as well paint plastic or metal. You can check out my member's projects for some 2.5d build ideas and you should also check out Eddnic's member's projects and his blog to see just how good 2.5 can look. minipapermodels.blogspot.ca/good luck!

I came up with this way of doing 2.5D figures with ALL of my figures (except the ones that have weapons and things across their chest, because it looks like their weapons are warped), but it works REALLY well (although this isn't a great set of pics. I am a designer, NOT a photographer). STEP ONE: Flat base your figure STEP TWO: Start at the center if the figure, and start bending it slightly so it is "U"-shaped. STEP THREE: Bend the figure at the shoulders/armpits, so it is now -u- shaped. FINAL PRODUCT: It really gives your figures some depth to them, and you can also tell what they are from the side. I did this with most of my figures, and the Skullbot Parduz did looks freaking amazing, so I can tell you it would work great with 'Mechs. I plan on releasing my 'Mech-based game this summer (if not sooner), and I will be designing them this way. Another thing I did was with my Skeletrons (some of my first models). They were designed to be folded at the joints, and then really have a great feel when done correctly. (I will have to look for a pic, or even make a new one, so you can see what I mean). Attachments:

Oh, wow! Yeah, that does help!
I was actually thinking of using WaffleM and Dagger's main mech design with some major alterations.
Thanks!

Vermin King tells me he sometimes puts a "shim" of paper insie the torso of figs to make them rounder.
Your trick really looks good on that fig, Kila.

Hey all, just a little update:
I decided to do the Raven Battlemech from MWO and It's progressing steadily. The first untextured test build should be ready by by the end of the weekend, hopefully.
Is there anyone who could maybe do the textures for me? I'm not sure if i need help yet, but I figure I'll see what you guys feel like doing.

Okay, this project did not go well. I lost the template! So, I'll choose a different Battlemech soon and try again.
