In the long run what do you other paper cutters dig for bases? I have built a dozen or paper figs other than my little barbarian. Stuff from the hoard files and some figure sample sets from drivethrurpg. I find that I like storing the figures flat but I dislike foam core bases. Considering permanent basing solutions.

I actually like foamcore bases (3mm height). I made once "chipboard" bases (2mm high) but it's a pain to cut large batch of it:

Are those permanently affixed to the base? I thought about chipboard but I am with you, I don't know that I want to cut a bunch of that, it eats razor blades pretty quickly.

Are those permanently affixed to the base? Yep. Those are not "standard" paper minis, so there was no reason to make them removable.

I have a prejudice against non-flat bases because the force the terrain designer to warp the dimensions of vehicles and buildings to make the height look right. My figures use the same system as Reivaj, so I'd say go with his method.
AND, you can easily retexture the bases to account for different environments or even status.

Do the bases for the Pathfinder Pawns only work for stuff mounted on chip board or is there a similar option for card stock? I will probably take your recomendations and with Reivaj's method.

I used the Pathfinder Pawn bases just fine today! I've had fun cutting out a few of my favourite mini artists' work since I found this hobby (and this site) a few months ago, but hadn't yet bothered to make up any bases. I've the Pathfinder Beginner box, but prefer the minis made here. While those bases are designed for the chipboard thickness of the pawns, a quick/easy/lazy workaround is to put a tiny strip of cardstock in the base to wedge the paper mini in there safely, or fold up the base tabs if you have them split. I even wrapped a blade of grass around Dave Okum's free goblin mini's base tab today, as it was Pathfinder & Picnic in the Park Part II for my young son. Worked just fine. But, I plan on trying out Reivaj's basing method this week sometime, or one of the variants floating around. I like the idea of my minis' feet being level with the terrain. One of the reasons I'll be replacing the Pathfinder pawns where & when I can, and converting some bargain-yet-appropriate HeroClix figures as I gain experience...

You guys might want to give my bases a go. Conceptually they're a lot like Reivaj's idea, but they finish off a lot cleaner (top is perfectly flat). The downside of the cleaner finish is that slightly more paper lands up in the bin and you get a few less bases out of a single sheet. Currently I have only 25mm round bases, but they come in a variety of textures from my own library and from Dave Graffam's. I'll be adding some 50mm and 40mm round ones later this week, and have plans for square, hex and octagonal ones which will be making an appearance very soon. They're completely free!

I use the One Monk hex bases.

I prefer to traditionally base my miniatures using mdf or masonite (hardboard) bases, but then I'm an odd duck. You can see some of my samples on this forum HERE

I thought about permanent basing but I decided I wanted my paper figs to be mobile so I store them in a binder in card sleeves.

I got these from Jim. We were talking on the forums a long while back about using something like that, so he knocked up some prototypes and sent them to me. I ended up ordering a buttload of octagonal bases in different sizes from 20mm to 50mm. I also got two different sizes of pill bases. They are all I use. I love how they match whatever terrain I use because they are transparent. That way I dont have to make 50 different sets of bases for the different designers tiles.
