Is it safe to assume that pretty much everyone here reccommends this product? Just reading about it on drivethruRPG and it looks pretty fantastic. I am thinking of picking up the whole bundle.

I recommend.
It is easy: each figure has two attributes, some special rules, and that's it. It uses just simple six sided dices, three movement rules (that I improvised with small tree sticks once), any miniature and terrain that you can find/build. I thought about playing it with playmobils once.
And yet the games is tactically challenging. The few rules have emerging complexity. The game is always new, no two battles the same, and at each moment the tide of battle can turn.

Our game group averages 6 to 8 people and this also looks like a viable option for larger groups which makes it even more attractive.

Agreed: fun and simple.
BUT play it with friends. A rule lawyer or someone that wants to max-out the abilities system can break the game and ruin the fun. It's a game for friends enjoying the time spent playing, not for who just want to win.

I always wanted to cook up a "Song of Redwall" game. Years later at least I'm started on the figs.

I liked the game well enough, my players weren't so fond of it.

I really like Song of Blades and its derivatives. The activation roll makes the game unpredictable in a good way and combat resolution is probably among the fastest around (It is funny to think that in the two years since I have taken an interest in miniature gaming, I have accumulated over 80 rule sets but I keep coming back to Song of Blades and Two Hour Wargames.) As Andrea Sfiligoi has repeatedly noted in the discussion group, the game was designed with mixed warbands in mind. So some people have problems with themed warbands like all undead (too low quality), all elves (too high quality), all dwarves (short movement) etc. The one derivative that, in my humble opinion, gets complicated, is Flying Lead. The relatively short ranges and movement system do not mix well with "shooty" genres (e.g. soldiers with assault rifles that should be able to fire across the table) and terrain with lots of obstacles.

Highly recommended, but keep Parduz's concerns in mind.
It's a great game for getting a few friends around and having an evening's fun. And it's fast enough to get 2 or 3 games finished in an evening.
The only problems I've heard of is the fact that the really 'big' monsters (Giants, elementals, etc.) seem a bit fragile. But this contributes to the speed of the game.

P.S. If you're looking at 'shooty' type games I'd highly recommend Warengine v2.x - it's available online for free. Another fast game (1 or 2 skirmishes in an evening) with plenty of options for customising forces. Mainly Unit based but with ability to have powerful characters. There's even some fantasy options as well.

Yep. There was a wiki with the v1 and v2 rules, but seems they had problems of "malware" and now the wiki is down. I have saved that pages, anyway, if someone is interested.

Has anyone done specific spell lists for their games yet? I think i may convert some spells from the old Warhammer Battle Magic boxed set and probably some of the elemental spells from various games.

It looks like the actual Warengine rules are not on this site and the links there are dead.

Is anyone using any particular counters for spell effects and special rules for Song of Blades? I was about to sit down and make some but I figured I would ask the community first.

Played first game today, I like it. It was easy to explain to someone and only a little going back n forth to the rule book to verify rules.
