Hi! My name's Ed, and I've been away from the gaming area for some 20 years (retired Navy), and recently got back in playing Modiphius' "Star Trek Adventures". Our gaming group are (mostly) big fans of TNG and we are playing that era. In our expanding, we've decided that we want to use more miniatures, and cardboard seems a great way to go -- especially with things like Scarecrow's miniature maker.
I'm not the greatest in graphic arts, although in my professional life now, I am a body artist and art instructor... but have no clue about things like Photoshop or Illustrator (nor do I really want to), so I feel like I may end up just finding bits and pieces of things online and creating other things. Who knows? It may turn out to be fun!
I won't have much that I can share... but I certainly will be watching!

Welcome, Ed. You've certainly come to the right place. There are a lot of resources here to help your game. Never say never when it comes to graphic work. If I can do it anyone can. Do searches for 'Star Trek', 'TNG' and Sci Fi, and you will find a lot of treasures. Also, check out the Downloads, onemonk.com/downloads.html. There is some useful stuff in the Hoards, and a whole section for 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'

Hello, I'm Nick, I live in France and I've been figure gaming since the late 70s. I've just discovered paper soldiers through Helions 1745 Jacobite book which seems fun and now I've found even more stuff through you! Thanks.....

Welcome, Nick. So are you more interested in historical gaming, or do you do RPG gaming, as well?
There are many resources here (and a great group of members). The Search function up above should be your best friend. If not your best friend, you and Search should be on a first name basis.
Explore the forum, check out the Downloads and ask questions. Above all else, have fun

Hi, I found this forum when looking for paper craft furniture for 28mm miniatures. My current project is finding some fantasy styled furniture for my dungeon. I am impressed with the high quality designs I saw in your gallery.

Thank you, I saw some furniture in that search that I had not seen before. Do you use varnish or similar to make the paper more sturdy? Or do you use a thicker than standard paper?

Definitely use cardstock or cover instead of standard paper. I also use clear spray varnish to protect things. I use Krylon Clear Satin or Clear Matte.
On larger figures, I usually sandwich an extra piece of cardstock in between to keep it straight over time.

I use cheap cardstock or matte photo paper, and that's it. I have never coated anything. For large pieces like Dave Graffam building walls, I often use an extra layer of cardstock on the interior for strength, and I use Super77 spray glue for those large surfaces to avoid warping. For smaller bits like furniture, I don't use extra materials, and I just keep 'em all jumbled up in a shoebox.

I generally tend to just print stuff on plain cardstock because it's cheap, easy to cut and easy to work with, and though it does muddy up the prints a bit they still look pretty good and it's worth the trade off for the other benefits. Every now and then I'll treat myself though and print some stuff on gloss photo paper, and I will always seal that up with a good coat of spray varnish, and boy, do those look fantastic... the colours are so vibrant, the detail is so crisp, and the glass-like finish really makes it look like a professionally produced product, but it's expensive, horrible to cut, and scoring is always a gamble because it tends to go horribly wrong and wrecks the paper surface.

What would a reasonable cost be if I pay a company to print on cardstock?

Hard to say. It's been three years since I had anything professionally printed. I really don't remember

What would a reasonable cost be if I pay a company to print on cardstock? If you are in the USA, Office Depot and Staples do reasonable color printing on cardstock, usually less than a dollar a page. Here in Sin City, it costs me 83 cents per color page on cardstock. I have them print everything I do, because I don't currently own a printer. My wife says that as soon as we have some extra money, she is going to force me to buy a good one so I can stop flirting with the print girls.

HI WARRIORS, COME OUT AND PLAYYY!!!! (I'm so original!!!)
Hi peoples, I'm Matt, life long nerd, my wife recently came up and asked to get in on the RPG fun and for me to run a game for her. She is a big fan of physical visual stuffs, so I not only built my tv into a game table, but I also started making paper miniatures. ITS SO MUCH FUN!!!! If anyone cares my dnd game is in Eberron, so I am looking for terrain, buildings, peoples, monsters and human friends. Hopefully I can find all this here.

Hi guys,
I'm simply an RPG player who doesn't have the patience and money for 3D minis!

Hello! Alex in Alaska here. I'm here looking for some sources for paper terrain for one-off uses in tabletop RPG's. I love miniatures and 3D terrain, but I don't have the budget or storage space to build & buy new stuff for singles uses. I think paper should fit that niche perfectly for me.

Hi alxbates - how are you going to use the terrain? Dave Graffam buildings are awesome for filling in your table, though most don't have interiors, and it'd take work if you want to store them flat... I have been selling modular terrain kits and some tile sets (www.paperrealms.com) that store pretty darn flat and can be reused in different ways. While Fat Dragon Games has kinda moved on to 3d printing for the time being, they have a large catalog of terrain bits that's worth looking at. Each has pros and cons, depending on what you value most.

Some stuff can for sure be used for multiple "one offs" I highly doubt I'm going to need "haunted carnival" stuff more than once - this is the first Halloween in my life that I've ever even tried to plan a themed game for it! That said, if I can find some pieces that really fit my needs well (or are just super awesome) and if I have time (the game is in a week!), I'll definitely look into it. I'm very much a game hoarder, once I make something I hang onto it for a long time

Welcome! It’s great to know there are more people coming to the hobby, and having a Silhouette brand cutter is a real treat. There are a fair bit of free resources here for the automated cutters. I have a Patreon that supports my compulsion for making cutfiles for minis, but I won’t hard sell you on it... yet... there’s a lot to find here in the forums so enjoy the stay.
