This one will probably be a freebie since I am still figuring out the process. I have not yet checked to see if my old copy of Acrobat Pro can do the snazzy layers trick but I thought I would do an inch and a half grid too for clix/MK players. Right now I am working on producing something that can go with Daves stuff or with FDG stuff but still looks different enough that people will feel like it isn't just another building

Right now I am working on producing something that can go with Daves stuff or with FDG stuff but still looks different enough that people will feel like it isn't just another building To do the layers you'll need to use Adobe Illustrator. Acrobat itself doesn't have the authoring tools necessary... You needn't use the newest version of Illustrator to achieve it though, versions as far back as the original CS can do it. It's a matter of saving the file as a PDF and telling it to retain the layers. You will need to optimise and clean it up a little in Acrobat Pro afterwards though, or your file will land up being huge. Great work on those textures! Good luck with your set

Can you save the layers from Photoshop too or Indesign?

Can you save the layers from Photoshop too or Indesign? Indesign probably. I've never tried but I assume it works as it's built on the Illustrator platform. Photoshop doesn't preserve the layers when saving as a PDF though.

Happy to help! You shouldn't put a set like the one you're planning out for free... as it is, it's probably going to take you a minimum of 80 hours to get it done and if you're still learning it'll only take that much longer. My own hovel took at least 300 when you include the multiple hi-res textures, complex geometry, the test building and instructions. At least an extra 20 or 30 on top of that when you take into account all of the photography, product descriptions (which had several revisions) and all those graphics on the product page demonstrating the features. There's a lot to be said for free products... they get a lot of attention and are a lot more likely to get downloaded, but keep your free products small and easy to produce. You'll never get those hundreds of hours back and you'll set a standard that you can't live up to (you'll have a hard time charging a fair price for anything simpler than your most complex free product).

So the key message here is keep it simple for the free stuff. I can do that. I have an idea for a piece a bit smaller than the foot print of this map. I will crank that out and see what people think.

I took the advice to heart and plotted out a simple box house. Here is a look at where I got in the last few hours, no tabs or fold lines on this image but I am sure you guys can see where I am going. Still need to do the windows, make the roof and a base but it I am hoping to print it out and give it a test run in a couple of hours.

Like the proposed floorplan and wall textures. I always welcome 3D building models with full interior and exterior designs. Looking good, and will complement Kev's Hovel nicely, I think.
Kev's right; be careful how much time and effort goes into your freebies. As primarily a builder of paper models, I'm all in favour of freebies, but I like to see people who are good at creating models for me to make continuing to do so too!
For example, even the hovel floorplan would be fine as a freebie (which for CWF members and visitors it already is, of course). You could perhaps add an area of "outdoors" landscape around it, path to the door, maybe a chopping block and some wood, nothing very elaborate.
Hope the test builds are going well.
