Thanks, it is an old habit and amuses me. Especially when the name changes during the game. Cedric started with just the first name but it became painfully clear that a Q4 mage is in fact quite useless unless standing next to the guy with the leadership ability

I've been thinking about trying Song of Blades and Heroes out cause I notice they have and expansion Song of Gold and Darkness I was thinking might be neat for a dungeon crawl if the rules work that way. How does the game play for character creation, spells, combat, or finding items and such?

The straight up game play is relatively quick with out sacrificing actual strategic manuevering. The expansions greatly enhance the game play by adding a bit more complexity and troop choices as well as limited lists for magical items, warband advances and character wounsd/survivability. It is VERY easy to break the system if you know someone who is a meta-gamer. Currently magic/spells in SBH only have two effects, damage or transfix. The good folks over at Ganesha say they are woring on a magic supplement for those of us who want a beefier magic system. I personally am converting some of the original battle magic spells from WHFB 3rd ed for use in SBH. Song of Gold Darkness does not give a hardline rule set for dungeon delving for a group or for solo play but they do ofer guidelines for it. I am actually going to be doing this for my game group because when we play HeroQuest or similar dungeon crawl game someone always has to GM the game. But I plan on just letting everyone create one personality along the SBH rules then we will dive in and try the solo gaming guidelines. I will probably buy Ganesha's RPG rule set based on SBH too and see what I can pirate from there for use in regular SBH. Long story short, it is fun and I have read a few blog posts from solo wargamers who like the rule set for both it's simplicity and the customization options.

Sounds interesting! I know when it comes to dungeon crawling tho I want something that has a nice amount of spells (I normally play a spell caster) and a good system for creating items (armor, weapons, magical, etc). I like the fact it sounds like it can be solo play, tho even if a game uses a GM I try to mod it to work with out. I considered just using D&D or Dark Dungeons maybe and just using the character and monster creation for all the figures and the item creation for item roll charts but still debating how well it will work, Lol. There is still the possibility of using Dungeon Plungin V4 rules but it's still in development so it may be a wile before it's completely ready, there is just a play test version at the moment, Lol. These are just my thoughts and ideas at the moment tho, Lol.

For GM free dungeon crawls I recommend 'Dungeon Plungin' over at Oversoul games www.oversoul-games.com/If you take a look through their forum, you'll find version 3.8.6 in beta test. Best bit is it's free and comes with ,loads of lovely paper minis!!!

I like SOBH but it is not without its flaws. Low Quality troops are next to worthless. Can't tell you how many times I had zombies that did absolutely nothing but eat up points...

I use zombies as living walls. I don't bother with activating them, unless I have nothing else to do, under the new rules they can get a free shamble if they're not activated and not near an enemy.

Oh really? What book is that from? Would be a help for sure!

I remember i read an article wrote by the game author about how to use effectively low quality undeads, long time ago. Dunno where it was.

Free Move - pg10 revised SBH (ver5); Long move instead of activating if no active enemies within 2x long. Mob Move - pg22 F+F; Free short move towards enemy before activating if moving as a mob, max of two move actions after activating if free Mob move used.
This way the dead can always keep creeping closer.

The revised SoBH edition is free, if you have bought any old version. Depending when and how you bought it, you could have to mail Andrea directly.

Nice Battle Report, it makes me want to check out SBH.
This blog report was also awesome. I really like the jungle tiles he made. I want to try Jungle Quest! Maybe I should try making some pirate minis soon.
