So I'm still working on the Jungle Fighters, but I wanted to put that project on hold for a little bit to try something new. A couple of my friends have recently completed painting a couple Warhammer Fantasy Armies and they have started playing. I want to get in on the action, but my own dwarf army is largely unpainted. Anyway, last weekend I put together some of Sanity Studios Dwarves and put them on my own bases. From printing to fully assembled, it only took me a couple hours. Here is the result: I think it looks pretty good, so I've decided to try fielding a paper Dwarf army to play with my friends. To that end, I've started making my own dwarf minis. Here is the first one. I've tried a couple things differently here. Instead of my usual shading method I used an Overlay and applied dodge and burn. I also drew in a couple pupils, which is stylistically different from what I normally do for minis. I intend on making a regiment of two-handed weapon wielders, if it turns out well, I'll move on to creating ranged units and artillery. Feedback?

First impression is that he is nicely done, but the pose is a little static. On further inspection his legs seem too short. I like the chainmail texture and the dodge/burn is working for me.

This figurine looks good. Cool are shadows. Truth, he isn't dynamic. Although, that I make a bit similar figurines. Maybe will should he be narrower in shoulders ?

I agree that the legs look too short. I know the 'no-knees'-style of dwarf is the Warhammer way but he looks like his feet joing on to the bottom of his breastplate.....
And the pose is a bit static, but I'm sure he would look fine in amongst a battalion of mixed troops.

The legs definitely need to be longer. Keeping everything the same and just lengthening the legs will still give a powerfully built dwarf.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try adjusting the legs when I get home tonight. As for the pose, I agree it is static but I am hoping to do a few different poses with great weapons; so this will just be one of several. Hopefully they will look good in a regiment. Longer legs will definitely make it easier to make more dynamic stances =P

Much love for the stunty folk! I like it! Not someone I'd like to have holding a grudge against me.

Yes! Better legs and that makes room for a bigger axe. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Here is the latest. I added an alternate head and a Beard Helmet. Next up will be alternate arms.

An alternate weapon head (hammer! mace!) would be distinctive as well.

Or maybe different positions?

Thank you for your feedback oldschooldm and pavaro. I am hoping to have several positions weapons etc. The previously posted Dwarves were done 100% digitally. This is from an old pencil drawing that I colored digitally. For this Dwarf I tried a different shading/highlighting technique. I personally like this one more than my dodge and burn experiment. It is also much easier to draw straight lines with a pencil compared to a tablet.
