Hi All. Here is the first set of miniatures from the new Codex Manesse "line" I will develop in nearest future. Following the Jousting knights, the new line roughly titled "the Court" will include kings, lords, courtiers, servants and other bunch that populated the royal or other courts of XII-XIV century Europe. All presented in more civilian circumstances - or as joust onlookers. For the first set the mightiest of the mighty including the Holy Roman Emperor himself. Full resolution image here. And a short description of the set on my blog hereEnjoy.

Thank you for this series - they are lovely! Did you see my post about the Getty Museum releasing its art files to the public? I thought particularly of you when I read it, hoping you might find some more hi-res art inspiration

Yes WackyAnne I've seen it . Thank you very much for the link. I thought particularly of you when I read it, hoping you might find some more hi-res art inspiration A thought, that it was a slight poke aimed at me, have crossed my mind . I'm already browsing through what they have, but still I don't have much time to make a thorough review. I have sometimes an urge to pick what's the best from many different sources, but for now I will stick to Codex Manesse, to maintain consistency of these miniatures. (I just like that merry if sometimes naive style) When this source is depleted (and it's far from it) I will move forward.

Oh, I wouldn't want to rush you - you put out such wonderful quality work! A future resource to tap, but present pleasure to enjoy is what it is meant as In any case, you've got a horse to finish, if I'm not mistaken

I LOVE these minis, though I am unlikely to ever use them thus. I'm pretty sure I WILL use them in a backdrop or something like this:

Finished up the cutfiles for the pages in this thread, and sent them off to madarchitect. I've got a massive pile of minis to edge now! Here's the great thing about the robocutter - today, I cut out 40 really detailed minis (and a chess table ) and have had time to edge about half of them. I'll bring the other half to work and whittle away at the pile. With spray glue, I'll probably have them all assembled tomorrow night for photos.

Just to prove I'm making progress... They're all cut and edged, and half have been glued tonight. Watching the world series for a little bit, and I've got to get a good nights sleep tonight as I've not been feeling well.

MrProteau, I don't use a machine cutter, so you know more about this than I do, but wouldn't it be half as much work to edge after they were glued together?

cowboyleland - Good question. I think the difference between machine cutting and hand cutting is this: When you hand cut, you're going to sandwich fold the standees first. Cutting them that way ensures that the edges are totally smooth and lined up together. Edging that kind of surface is really easy. When you machine cut, you're slicing out around the edges of the front and back separately. They line up pretty darn good, but rarely is it as perfectly smooth as when you have hand-cut the two layers together. So edging them after gluing isn't as, uh... what's a good word... pleasing? When you have two layers that are not quite lined up, dragging the pen across the edge might only color the edge, and not the little bit of back that is showing through. Also, I find I make fewer mistakes (slips while edging) if I come at the figure from the untextured side. Also, when you spray-glue these guys together, there'll be some glue on the edges making it hard to edge until it's totally dry, and I don't like waiting. So, yeah - it's possible to do it after gluing. Not sure it'd be half as much work, the same work, more work...

Just to prove I'm making progress... Wow. Until I've seen this, I didn't realised that I've made so many of these. Finished up the cutfiles for the pages in this thread, and sent them off to madarchitect. Sorry I've made You all waiting. Here are the cutfiles for "The Court" (as for now), and here again together with the Jousting Knights. Many thanks for making these mproteau.

Continuing the Codex Manesse Court theme, behold the different faces of courtly love. This set was obviously intended for 14th February and supposed to have its own thread. Unfortunately I failed to finish it for Valentines due to unexpected overtime so there was no point to post it separately, so I put it here instead as the next set of The Court. So with a bit late but still best wishes for all pursuers of the romance ( and/or popculture )... Hi res imageDescription of the set.

ladies and maidens of Codex Manesse Court. Simply AMAZING!!!Thank you very much madarchitect for sharing these awesome minis!!! To be honest -- I'm in awe... Really beautiful and quality paper figurines; B-sides perfectly matches A-sides -- both lineart and colours/shadows/textures - sort of feast for my eyes! BUT the most striking is that you've somehow managed to maintain specific/unique medieval style, some subtlety of contours and inner-lines are preserved, then colouring is disciplined yet absolutely astonishing! Then ultimately added 'old-print' layer effect - really KUDOS! ----- IMHO even single/ONE figurine of these madarchitect 'ladies and maidens' minis is worth (meaning time, effort, know-how and /which is perhaps most important/ art-sense) much more than even some full sets of most of other paper mini publishers (IMO including most of mines:)))! And... OMG it's FREE!?!

Reading such praise from a professional like you Mesper, really motivates me to make more. As for steampunk minis. It is all in progress, although pretty slow because of my many other projects (both professional and personal). Aspasia already have 6 friends, 3 ladies and 3 gentlemen. Ladies are pretty much complete, gentlemen still lack back side. When guys are ready I will redraw the Fashionable Adventuress too, as the rest of minis is a bit improved comparing to her. I intend to publish it as a set of 8 miniatures with some colour and equipment options, but when it will be, I cannot be sure. Hopefully within a month or two, but no promises.

So, over a year later I am still working on my update of the old Knights of Camelot game. I needed a pilgrim so I gave it a go. I didn't do as nearly as good a job as madarchitect would have, but I guess it will do for my purposes.

And here is tonight's effort. I think he is a page or a squire or something but in the codex he was drawn smaller than the knights. In Knights of Camelot there are Dwarves who are basically useful for carrying spare equipment, so I am going to use these little squires as dwarves.

I LOVE these minis, though I am unlikely to ever use them thus... I didn't realize that I never update this thread with a pointer to my entry in the 2015 Papercuts contest. Turns out that I DO REALLY love these minis, and ended up using them as the focal figure in my entry.
