I wanted to keep the Paper Miniatures flat for storage and the bases to be sturdy and reasonably easy to create. I used MDF because it has a nice weight to it and grips the figure nicely.. also I am able to cut it easily with the fret saw... but you can use anything that has a 4-5mm height... cork tiles, craft foam, foam core or thick card etc..

It took me a minute to understand this. Perhaps step 3 should say "glue second piece of MDF to the scrap paper" or something. I assumed you were gluing the two pieces of mdf together the first few times I read it and I couldn't figure out how this allowed flat storage. I think it is a good system as I like the weight of MDF and they look great.

My explanation is a bit too brief but just wanted to share the process.. yes.. the second piece of MDF is glued with PVA/wood glue to the scrap paper.. the figure just enables the slot to be the correct width. BTW The textures are just normal images which I used a simple filter within Photoshop to give that black detail + posterization [Poster Edges - Edge Thickness = 10 Edge Intensity = 10 Posterization = 1] I think it compliments the figures.

Do feel free to post the base textures as a pdf on here for those of us who are not photoshop-firendly... (and lazy!! lol!)

Cool, that's a pretty good way to make your own bases.

Thanks for sharing! It's great to see another way to do the bases, that is still DIY, still store flat, yet gives a bit more heft and likely more durability. Great thinking, and great looking! Um, on your part, and the bases, respectively

Thankyou for all your response, much appreciated.. I will be trying maybe a 6 or 7mm width instead of 10mm just because I am never satisfied visually another tweak/addon will be sticking self adhesive green felt/fablon to the underside/base to give it a more professional feel & finish. migibb I will post the textures once I have generated a batch that I think will work well once printed etc.. I believe GIMP has a poster edges script? Thanks Graeme

I am quite happy with the proportion of the base now, seems to work better towards a Paper Miniature with the MDF pieces 6mm width instead of the 10mm of the earlier attempt.
