Folks, Interesting that Chris Roe posts an "I'm back, here's where I've been" post on the same day I'm posting this... I need to take a temporary break from gaming and related papercraft to focus 100% on my job search related activities. With luck, I'll find something soon, and return to my beloved hobbies in a short number of weeks/months. I've got two more Foresite Irregulars posts to do, which I'll link here when they are up - but I won't be checking this (or any other board) regularly during my hiatus, starting now. You are all awesome folks, and I will miss you all. I'm working diligently to get back to you (and to save my house!) Randy (Lowering Shields) about.me/frandallfarmer(Raising Shields) BTW - I am considering work outside of the California SF Bay area, where I currently live, especially Europe

UPDATE: The job search has produced some contracts, but no full time work. So - I've got to sell the house I raised my kids in and move into something smaller. This means I'm still going to be mostly absent here, until I'm in my new place and hopefully then I'll be living within my means... Though there is much emotional turmoil with this change, 20 years ago I bought this house in Palo Alto for about 1/5th of what it's worth today, so I don't have much to complain about on that score. After the chaos of this effort settles, I should be OK for awhile. I have my health and my family - so I am greatful, OldSchoolDM/Randy BTW - on the off chance you know a great realtor specializing in Eichlers, Palo Alto, and First-Time-Homesellers, please PM me.

Selling the house you raised your kids in sounds traumatic, but I think it is something that most of us will eventually do. Good luck with that AND the next phase of your life!

So - the house sold and was *supposed* to close next Monday, which would allow us to make an offer on a house we very, very, very much want later today. But the buyer of our house has messed up and is delaying close. This has caused the last few days to be amongst the most stressful in our lives (as I sit here at the kitchen table of a friends house that we are "sitting" while they are in Sweden...)
Uh, any well wishes would be greatfully appreciated. The next few days will be particularly stressful, even if they go as well as possible...
Thanks for all your support, gang!

I'm sorry you have to have this extra layer of stress on what is already a stressful process. I went through a miserable experience buying my current home, but that was a long time ago, and I can only relate that there was stress. Time healed that wound pretty nicely. I hope it doesn't drag out too long.

All the best, sir. I was very lucky back in 1995 when I got my house. I'm sure it will not go as smoothly next time.

Good news is the late-buyers on our house have granted permission to unlock their deposit, so I can use that for the new offer, which is due in 23 minutes! Nail-biter time. I'm waiting for the DocUSign docs as I type...

Though we didn't win, we're in "backup" position. So the tension still exists while we start up the effort to look for more.

UTSA is always looking for people and if you end up anywhere near San Antonio you will get ten times the house for your money that you will get in Cali. ESPECIALLY THE BAY !! utsa.edu/careercenter/of coarse you could always work at Sea world or 6 flags .... they need computer people like crazy, then there is the military out here they are always hiring ncp (none commisioned personel)they calle them civies (civillians ) then we could have friday night game night!! when you weren't working of coarse.

UTSA is always looking for people... San Antonio? Never been there... Now, Austin? I've been there a few times - a great tech center there. Ah! The plot thickens! Did you know I was a co-founder of the South Bay's largest weekly game club? Still meets at the Yahoo! campus every Monday night (for the last 10 years...) I'm gonna miss that group.

Good news! My house finally closed. I now have money again! Woot! I can buy your sweet kits.
Now... I'm still looking for a new house while we bounce from sublet to sublet. :-)
Fired the previous agent for flubbing up our last offer, so if you know anyone good in the Berkeley/Oakland area of California, drop me a PM.
