I like that Lo-Pan on the far right for size. He's bigger than the Storms, but not OGRE huge next to them. One week left!

I've almost finished Thunderchild's Star Car (Rylos 1 from Last Starfighter) so if anyone feels like doing Centauri, Alex and Grig (or even the girlfriend, whatever her name was) I would appreciate it.

For TV/Movie stuff, it would be cool to just take a screen shot, run it through some software that would render it more cartoonish and then use that to make a back. Anyone know how to get gimp or another free program to cartoonify?

Anyone know how to get gimp or another free program to cartoonify? Yup, Gimp has the filter "Artistic -> Cartoon", though I usually find it best to posterize it first to flatten it/reduce the colours dealt with, before adding the black...

I didn't get great results from "artistic-> cartoon" Maybe I don't know how to use it. How does one posterise?

I actually think I'm going to have time to make Vasquez. "All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!" CS

I just play around with it, trying to get the colour level as low as possible without too much distortion, then play around with Artistic -> Cartoon. I'm just playing around with it all, no expert by far....

Crud, I can't even take something off one file and put it on another without scale going batty. I was about to delete Gimp last night and just go back to Paint ... The scale is probably going wonky because either the size, the resolution, or both didn't match before you imported from one file into another. Make sure your selection is at the right resolution, then sized appropriately before importing, and the same with the accepting file. I make sure I've got them both at 300dpi, and usually drop stuff into 2550 x 3300 pixel files (8.5" x 11") although you might prefer a different resolution, or if following the 28Terrain, maybe a different base file size for your sheet...

Yep, I messed around for years before I learned to import at 300dpi, double check it really had imported at 300dpi and then scale. It lets you know if you have a workable image at the size it is going to end up at, then you can zoom in and out as you work.
I found a few tutorials about cartooning/posterising on youtube last night. I was too tired to really absorb so I'll go back and watch again. It doesn't look like it is going to be quite as easy as I'd hoped.

I added some texturing and tried to brighten up the colors for this version. But, my ink cartridges died during test printing (I will have to grab more this weekend) From what I can see the colors look better. I am less sure about the textures as there was a lot of streaking. If they don't look good with the new burlap-ish texture I can remove it pretty easily. Full res (some alternative textures on the right side too): www.dropbox.com/sh/ldtc8gdsxf9ykch/dUy_N66mV2/lopanand%20Storms_003%20copy.png

I think I'm going to have to look for a semi that I can recolor to be Burton's truck, or find one of those Opel busses to turn into the open=top tour bus

I see not many of us were in the hero mood (even mad max is a bit on the anti-hero side). Maybe we should do heroes of cinema in an upcoming hoard to get our karma balanced (and give those colonial marines more time to sneak in). Great looking hoard everyone.
