As promised, my New Year's Resolution was to get my scanner fixed so I can get back into hand-drawn stuff. There is a place for computer rendered stuff, so expect more of that from me, but I really enjoy drawing things, and somethings are just so cool, you lose a lot in the CG translations. Well, thanks to Parduz, I was able to get my the GMG TRINITY all in one accord! This doesn't seem like a big deal, but I can now get some of these images onto the computer and wrap up some cool sets. So I didn't get too rusty, I have been doing some sketches. Here are a couple: and another one... These have been hanging around my scanner for MONTHS (if not longer). Well, that is my news as of late... Thank you for your attention. kil

I'm very excited to see your drawings again, kiladecus! Picked up DM10/3 and it looks great but I'll always prefer your hand-drawn work. One thing about your post, I can't seem to make sense of this line "I was able to get my the GMG TRINITY all in one accord!" What do you mean?

Well, IN THEORY, my situation was resolved! I have three laptops (the "trinity."). One says, "Hey, kil, that is a great All-In-One printer. It sure prints well, but you need a scanner." One says, "Hey, kil, that is a great All-In-One scanner, too bad you don't have a printer." The third one says, "Hi.......... Kil............. I ........... Like.............. Your........... hey, a squirrel! What was I saying...................? So, I thought I could use one as a slave back-up, one as a stationary printer/scanner hub, and operate all of my images through my Dropbox. Well, that ain't happening now. I have an ENTIRE day-off wasted, and NOTHING to show for it.
Looks like I get to take the whole shooting match to the local Dork Force, and pay them money I don't have to fix something that should be working...Until I can get this resolved, I am dead in the water, and out of commission.EDIT: I AM printing, at the moment... It appears that I have to manually change the settings every time I print. An inconvenience, but if I can print... :/ Ok, NOW let's see if I can scan, too! If so, then I AM back in business, and will be able to draw little paper figures like I did before. *Here's hopin'* It looks like it IS working! Thank the Lord!

I was missing your hand-draw stuff. CG doesn't compare!

Hey Kila, I like these guys too. I was just thinking about a squidy pirate today for some reason. Just a note of caution: I think cthulu is public domain these days but Illithid wasn't part of the open game licence so is someone's property (Hasbro?)

kiladecus Thanks for the clear and hilarious explanation! My laptop and desktop have some trouble communicating (two Macs, bought at the same time last year), and neither seems to speak the same dialect as my all-in-one scanner (all-in-none, they should be called).

Very cool figures! ... There is a place for computer rendered stuff, so expect more of that from me, but I really enjoy drawing things, and somethings are just so cool, you lose a lot in the CG translations. Agreed! You have been doing some cool figures based on 3D models -- some pictures you posted with side-by-side drawings and 3D versions were very nice -- but as you say, there are some things that just look better as drawings.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback! Nothing is worse than posting something, and spiders won't even leave webs on it. gilius, my old friend, it is GREAT to hear from you! I REALLY have a lot of irons in the fire, and I am constantly reminded of other things I *should* be doing. I've learned that you can't please everyone all of the time, and there are people that prefer one medium over the other. I used to see CG stuff and say, "I would love to do stuff like that." I still do. I see stuff by DramaScape and Angel Alonso, and I am flabbergasted. Clearly, the BEST at what they do. Likewise, I see hand-drawn stuff by okumarts, @reivaj, and darkmook, and say, "That is some REAL talent." I see my stuff, and I think to myself that a lot of it is ok... nothing amazing, but not bad. There is some stuff, honestly, that I don't know what muse inspired me, but I actually look at it and can't put it down. The line art of ANGUS THE BLACK, for example, STILL makes me look at it and saw, "WOW!" I think I lost my train of... "COOKIES!" What was I saying...? Ok, thanks for the support and feedback. I appreciate it greatly. EDIT: cowboyleland - Hello!* I only "name" my figures for picture reference purposes. "Baxter the Snarky Ghost" is the ghost from DM: Family Edition, but I named him something different on my hard-drive. Same with these. I DO appreciate the heads-up, though. I guess I need to be more careful as to what I name the images I post. *- NOTE: This is to be read as, "Hey, how you doin'?" and NOT "Hel-loooo." Just to clarify. Perhaps I should draw something now...

Well, I was able to set aside a little time to do a test color for the "Merlantean Overlord." Any thoughts?

He looks great, Kila. I especially like his tattoo. And "Merlantean" is a great name for on aquatic race. (Edit: just googled it; it has been used before, but it was new to me)
Cheers

I used it for the Merlantean Hydromage in WARMANCERS TWO (? - I think). I am sure no one will mind if I use that. Thanks for the encouragement, CBL! EDIT: I am pretty happy with the way the colors turned out. It was my first attempt at coloring an about a year. It was pretty magical when I opened up my GW marker case. (Not rainbows, glowing orbs or angels singing, but it was still great).

Well, I was able to set aside a little time to do a test color for the "Merlantean Overlord." Any thoughts? Wow! I do really like this one - both GREAT idea and superb job! Regarding thoughts - well I'd try with some colour modding - more blueish or even greyish see shades? Then it might be worth to test colouring clothes in the same blue/grey but darker colours. You might also add (as OPTION or as a second/modded version?) some hoppy water or tidal wave - so he's kinda just emerge from the water? Just my 2 cents

Thank you, mesper! You know I think you are one of the very best hand-drawn figure artist there is. To hear these words from you, really means a LOT. Thank you. I do agree, he needs to look a little more "worn." I am still playing with the colors. I like the wave idea, but to see him in his "final" stage, you will see why that might not work. I am also stepping outside my comfort zone, and for the first time, will have my own set of hand-drawn tiles to go with this figure (if all goes as planned). Granted, don't expect the quality you have seen from the sets that included Inked Adventures, Old School Dungeons or NEMO Works, but for a simple set of tiles, I *think* it may look ok.

He certainly exudes pride. I think he is a touch narrow at the waist and a little short below the knee. Longer shins would also let the rapier be longer. It should reach the floor even with longer legs. I think he needs a feather in his hat. It could curl around the back of his head so it wouldn't be in danger of getting torn off.

Then, since you've asked for Parduzing: I'd enlarge an shift-up his head and also straighten arms. Then the way he is holding the weapon - this part of rapier which covers the palm (hilt-guard / barrette?) should be a bit higher IMHO His left hand - just imagine it straighten - he could touch his knee with such a long hand (well, being lazy I've just masked this hand with a coat;) Hope it's helpful Attachments:

I *did* ask, after all! Parduz also mentioned that his left arm and leg were too long, since they were bent. Just getting back into the swing of drawing again... I have a lot of work t do. :/
