Thanks, Squirmydad. Cracks in the tower, why didn't I think of that? The add-on is as yet unfinished, a door handle and some reinforcement there are next. And guess what? I have a piece of Styrofoam I was planning on mounting it to, plus I happen to have moss laying around here, somewhere...now where did I put that? I really do love the idea of the cracks. I know what I'm doing tomorrow... Thanks for the great ideas!

I'm just watching you have fun for now, and reading the others' good suggestions, but I must say this is inspiring me to make castle building a March Break priority with my boys.
Years ago, when the minis that interested me were dollhouse-sized, I had one or two rather ambitious projects on the go that were relevant. Do you happen to have an old blender, some egg cartons, and wood glue kicking around? That combination made for a wonderful, shape able, sand able, paintable material for building...

I do! I am so going to try that! Thank you, my dear! Make sure it's an old, tough blender, use LOTS of water, and break down the carton as much as possible beforehand - into TINY pieces if you can. Otherwise you may burn out the motor. You can squeeze out most of the excess water AFTER you take it out of the blender and BEFORE you put in the glue and stir really well. It's all a bit of trial and error.

Thank you for those tips. I'll look in my local thrift stores for an old tough blender. Would it help, do you think if I soaked the torn up egg cartons first to get them good and soft?

Not a bad plan. I didn't burn out the motor with that project, it was hummus I was making too thick, but better safe than sorry. Also the pulp is still shapeable and useable without the glue, just not as sturdy, or sandable. Either way, you may want to seal the surface before &/or after painting. You could also add pigment (even cheap poster paints) to colour the material itself, for instance if you wanted it greyer for castle walls... I've got to see how many cartons I have kicking around at hme - I'm inspired for March break!

WOW! The wind is really blowing here in 'Sunny Spokane'. If it blows any harder we won't be in Kansas...er, Spokane anymore! In fact it feels as though our poor little trailer (I mean mobile home) will get picked up and into the next county with the next good gust of wind! Any way, with a little luck, I'll have some pictures to show you of what I've been up to over the last few days. That is if I'm not blown away before then!

Thanks, Migbb. That's his bedroom/workroom, built after he destroyed the tower in one of his experiments gone awry. I added rubble in different places and cracked walls from the various explosions. The stove pipe is made from 3 bendy straws and painted black. The umbrella is Aelor's solution for weather proofing the ruined tower. I still have to mount it and do the out buildings, but I've been having fun with it!

My favourite touch is that very bendy chimney too

To give the upper tower more of a feel like a strong wind would take it down, you might want to cut off some square toothpicks to make some make-shift bracing. It doesn't look unstable enough to me for having been blown up

I agree that is needs more details.
I am laz.... I mean, "chronomically challenged." I don't have the time I like to do things.
My suggestion is this:
Do an internet search for "windows" or "castle windows."
Re-size them the way you want, and glue them all over the place. Make sure some are crooked.
Maybe do some doors the same way.
Another thing to consider, get some small pieces of pipe from Lowe's, and paint them if need be. Glue them around, so you have pipes running around the outside. The more strange it looks, the more it makes sense for Aelor.

While it is great all round, the support struts definitely make the model for me. Gives it that element of "danger"!!! Well done DM - cracking model you have there!

Thank you all so very much! I could not have done this without all your so very valuable help. And just in time, too, as it will figure in a large way in Sunday's game. Now, if I can just keep Aelor from blowing it up again before Sunday... . Though; I am still worried by what he meant by "change the world". Somehow I think it can't be good.

Supports are great for calling attention to the leaning tower. Like the piping too, maybe it's indoor plumbing?

I don't know...Did you notice the lightening rod and the wires leading from it, old squirmydad ? Besides, Aelor has been spending an inordinate amount of time in his observatory muttering about the "Great Alignment" and how there's not much time left to finish his experiment. This is not helping any of my heroes to sleep easily. Well, except for Yarr, the Dwarf. Ever since he got that "Ever-full Tankard", nothing much seems to bother him.

How did the "Great Work" go over with your players? Are they hounding you with requests for player housing yet? Aelor's looks fantastic! (- and dangerous)

:oMy players were very excited! Now they want to start a town of their own, using their own gains from their adventuring to fund the building of the town itself! Oh! Boy! Am I going to be busy!

Hi Everyone! Hey, I've been working on Aelor's place so I could enter it in the World of Craftwars contest at DM Scotty's The DM's Craft forum. I made some changes to the exterior and I made a representation of the interior of the shoppe. I thought you might like to see what I did. I have included a link to the contest page so you can see all the entries, they are all so creative it blows me away! Have fun, and leave a comment so the those talented craftspeople know they are appreciated!

We wish you well with that. I guess I am going to have to register... Like wise (both counts) That's weird. It's a Proboards forum and I've never had a problem with it. It might be a temporary glitch. Try again! Thanks. I couldn't believe I made it to second place! Did you see Cauldren Alley? Did you notice what happened to the thief? I loved that!

The smoking boots in the street? - yes that was a touch of brilliance I love all the wonderful details you've created dungeonmistress. The emporium is a brilliant model and the moment I saw it I could tell that its inhabitant was a bad insurance risk.
