Well, it seems like sooner or later everyone thinks about a dwarven cannon. The discussion about the Brave Adventures version renewed my interest in mine, which was sparked in the first place by a discussion some of us were having around the Sanity Studios version. I was going to have a 2d version, a 2.5d version and a full on 3d model. So, for now, here is the 2d version. If someone here says they would love the 2.5d version, it would not be too much work. I make no promises of the 3d version ever seeing the light of day Dwarf Cannon Share by cowboyleland, on Flickr

I first thought that this might fire turtles, a-la Super Mario. Or, those giant smiling bullets I could never jump past on the ghost ship...

Is it something about dwarven cannon that the muzzle end and the breach end look identical? I noticed the same on Braveadventures' one.... Just a minor quibble though - I love both of them. How were you planning on doing this 2.5D???

I based the shape and proportions of my cannon on the Tzar cannon. I think it was the largest cannon ever made. Anyway the barrel looks the same at both ends of that one and I guess the look kind of rubbed off.
The plan for the 2.5d is you cut the 2d model in half and glue a piece with the two faces of the top of the hexagon and end pieces in between them. I'm thinking with the corner on the top of the barrel it would fold flat.

My image of a dwarf cannon is one with a bulbous breech and a more slender tube with a flare at the muzzle end, with decorative dolphins above the trunions, and a Baroque face on the muzzle flare. But it would be extremely complex to make such a thing from cardstock. I HAVE made similar one with plastic Easter eggs and spools...
Have fun! Steve

Always nice to hear from you, Professor Lortz.
I like dolphins on naval cannons, but I've never associated dwarves with the ocean.
For years I've been imagining a dwarven culture that was very dour and Spartan. They are only allowed geometric designs and they consider hexagons to be a sacred shape. The cannon was an exercise in how many hexagons and or 60 degree angles I could cram onto the shape. I realised today that the spokes are round and could be hexagonal. I might get back to that.
Some day I may even game in a world that has "my" dwarves, 'til then they (and some alternative elves) are something for me to think about when I do tedious menial tasks.
Cheers!
