I was wandering if anyone had some good plans/ideas/materials list for making a light box for Tracing?

North facing window in the day, old TV at night. I don't do a lot of tracing.

I don't know how big you want to go, but I made mine with a 12"x14" shadowbox (it was on sale at Michaels). I covered the bottom with aluminum foil, that I left all lumpy so it would help disperse the light. Flipped it glass side down and laid a strand of Christmas lights in it, the ones with the small incandescent bulbs. I tried a strand of leds but they weren't bright enough. Then put the foil in and the back on. Before you put the back on you need to make a small notch in it for the plug wire. There are probably a dozen variations you could try, fluorescent lights, painting the back of glass with a light coat of white to diffuse the light, ect. but that's the basic gist of it.

I work in a school and we have lots of overhead projectors that nobody uses, as now days we use interactive whiteboards for teaching. So I find these an excellent light box for tracing. If you contact your local school they may have some they just want out of the way? Jackmatt.

Jackmatt.View Attachment Good call there, our district has also converted over to "smart" whiteboards, and the old overheads were all surplussed to warehouses. The district is not allowed to give away or sell anything, but once a month they will do a warehouse clearance sale of old surplus that has sat too long-like overhead projectors.
