LOL Splinterwood seems to be turning into a project I never intended LOL It has consumed more time than it was supposed to but then I never did things half way. I have added more than Brian ever intended. but you cant start something like Splinterwood and just leave it! ... I'm sooo torn!
thanks Mahostuki! is that what that was I didn't put those together . I linked to his elves through his site... and what ever happened to Romtador the Sage? that was just getting interesting! is he like a wandering sage that chronicles the world or something? He is definitely Splinter Kin or he would be dead! LOL is he human? something else perhaps? is He a he? maybe a she ? does he/she make smaller field guides LOL com on man you can't just leave us hanging !
D-Mistress you have no idea what your getting yourself into ... you think my spelling and grammar is bad on these boards you should see it when there is little or no auto correction LOL

I used to work at a middle school as a para-educator (where spelling and grammar are no longer even taught! Instead the kids are encouraged to express themselves however they see fit. But they do teach them how to text! I kid you not! ), and I edited a thesis for my friend, an English lit major (which, of coarse means that he couldn't spell or put a sentence together to save his life! ), so, there is nothing you can show me that will dampen my spirits. So, let 'er rip! I can take it! And I promise I won't pull a Sheldon on you!

1) Parduz: You deserve it because you are just awesome like that! 2) aaron: I think Parduz was referring to you style of shading rather than what program you use. 3) migibb is RIGHT, you should do something protect you IP. Also, I really like the idea of an ever-expanding Splinterwood universe! 4) I am sold and addicted! I will end up owning all the Splinterwood figures and anything else you put out to go with the set. PS: More food for thought: Put together a PDF booklet of the Story of Splinterwood for who ever gets this set. (It always nice to have a background story to go with your characters. Makes the game feel more real). I will edit it for you. Deal? so it needs a cover page like this?

That could work. Tone down the green background a bit first, though; your losing some of your creatures. Try fading it, for an antique feel, You know like it contains ancient histories.

My 2c, and it's a minor nit, but by overlapping them so much, I can't tell what I'm looking at. The birds at the bottom kinda lose their individual form, maybe because they don't have a thick border around each one. The archer in the bottom right kinda gets lost - his mount stands out, but he blends into the pile of archers behind him. Then there's the large empty space in the upper left. It just needs a little tweaking to balance things out. Style wise, I love everything. The logo looks spendid, and the map as a background works fantastically.

The title heading for the cover is excellent and changing the background colour for the map has made the model figure artwork really stand out. I love it and would definitely want to buy the set on the basis of what I can see on the cover.
Edit: The Jara Jara birds at the bottom of the cover look like they're racing and that's a detail I really like.

Good catch. What I would try is to move the dryad up by Qell Octharian with her feet behind the dragon. Then I'd move the minator &rider forward (left) just until his feet touch the tail feathers of the red Jara Jara bird and see how that look.

I think mproteau makes good points and almost gives the solution: try moving the mounted archer to the upper left corner.
"Pay what you want" at DTRPG awaits!

cowboyleland and mproteau (Paper Realms) Sorry to disagree with you on this. As I see it the book is a guide to Splinterwood so the map is a major part of the product and needs to be displayed as much if not more so than the miniatures in this instance. However There are some tweaks that I would suggest. Swap the Knights for the Jara Jara racers, I think the confusing thing here is not so much the overlap, as overlapping with something that is not a racer. The mounted archer I would move away from the unit of archers towards the space between what would now be the Knights and the archers. Also if space is an issue the Dragon could be moved up so that the title crosses the wing, but I do feel that the area of map is an important part of the whole.

ok so I moved everything around and tried to make it all fit. and after all that big ol debate I actually forgot to add some Kl'cari to the image ... sad I know. ok so I will probably be able to hammer out most of the fiction today and then by the end of the week I am hoping to be done with Gathem (which means wet in Splinterwood elf) and then I will hammer out the rest of the knights then Ferrals, Gnolls (which will be half women half fish ) and beastmen (which will be lawyers ...accurately named ) and satyrs (half women half bird)... then who knows!

Wonderful, it's absolutely wonderful. How did I miss noticing the absence of the Kl'cari in the previous version. And stand back everyone Aaron's imagination is really starting to bubble.

Much better! mahotsukai makes a valid point regarding the map, however; I think the cover looks fine and the way to address the map issue is to have it be a full-color 11"x17" pull out poster. As a PDF, this would translate into two 8-1/2"x11" pages which would, when placed side by side in portrait fashion, constitute the full map of Splinterwood. Don't worry about missing some of the creatures on the cover, that just makes what is found inside a wonderful surprise! And all will be explained in the text and with matching pictures. (Ex: the explanation of the difference between a Jara bird and it's racing cousin, the Jara Jara bird would be accompanied by pictures which clearly show the difference.) Does this sound good?

LOL D-mistress your starting to sound more like my agent LOL ok so you're going to create the mock up of the poster and present it to the shareholders while I handle the board, don't worry I'll dazzle them with that full length trailer for the Splintwood movie that you suggested and the merchandising looks great! I don't know how you managed to get the shirts in Hot Topic but the amazing thing was the line of lingerie that you made for Victoria and her secrets! in the mean time I'm getting back to work ! and just for grins and giggels I think I should make a model of this guy thanks to Mahostuki: Romtador the Sage : Romtador is not his name it is his working title. Romtador is a Kelthose for one who wanders. He was born at the end of days when the Kelthose Empire was ravaged by war. The Elgonus from the east had mustered their forces and were marching on the imperial city. It was on the day that High emperor Santego Vail Hessen the 4th rode to war with the last of the Incorus his highly trained special forces that Eric Kes was born. The Battle of lathum field became legendary when the high lord Aduas knocked the emperor from his horse and before he could strike the final blow Eduice the captain of the Incorus launched himself from his steed to take the blow. The now mortally wounded Eduice pulled the spear from his own side and began to battle with Aduas. In the final moments of the battle Eduice cut Adaus's head from his shoulders and thus ended the Elgonan campaign. What was left of the Elgonan forces fled into the wilds and were not herd from again in this age. It was Eduice who ,when wounded , carried the body of the emperor to his encampment and together they were treated and recovered. The Emperor returned to bolster the kingdom and Eduice went home to meet his son Eric who had been born earlier that day. Eduice very proud of his new son raised him to be a warrior. Eric's mother however being the chief scribe and record keeper under the emperor himself had different ideas and infused Eric with a love of the written word. Soon Eric was a young man and being large in stature like his father but sharp and articulate like his mother he was known as the warrior poet and was inline to become the new head of the Incorus. In his 17th year when Anna Kestnellus a wandering Bard came to the Kelthose empire to sing and dance her trade. When Eric met Anna there could be no denying that he was lost to her forever. Torn between his duty to state, Love of his family and desire to be with the woman he loved, Eric found himself at his favorite pub spending what little money he had on drink and solace. The crowd hushed for a moment when Eduice (the now national hero, to which there is an annual holiday ) walked in and quietly sat next to his son. There is no record of what was said between them but that next day Eric and his father stood before Emperor Santego Vail Hessen the 4th to resign Eric's commission and renounce his citizenship so he could pursue a career as a wandering bard and to be with his love Anna. The Emperor granted his request to resign his commission but refused to relinquish his citizenship. His words are recorded in the 27th lexiconum des voterirum “the world I think is a much bigger place than any of us suppose. I now commision you on this pathose day in the 402 year of the 3rd empire go forth as my imperial emissary and bring the good will of the Kelthose to all you meet and send regular word of what you find in your travels so that the Kelthosain empire will know better how to treat with it's friends and how to deal with it's enemies and to know the difference between the two. With a stipend of imperial gold and the Bard Anna at his side Eric made tearful goodbyes to his family with a promise to return soon. Though it is recorded in the 18th volume of the Tiernac chronicles that he did not return to Kelthose for nearly a lifetime “ when my feet did again meet the streets of Cainus Vortu the capital city to which I was born it had grown as a stranger to me. It was Anna who led me to my parents graves and there I did finally weep at their passing. I found in the great square a statue of my father at least the plaque at the feet of this giant man in splendorous armor holding aloft a mighty sword claimed his name. He was not the man I remembered with a gentle hand , a quiet nature who loved his wife and loved his son.” though at this point Romtador the Sage had become world famous no one knew his continuance so Eric could slip in and out of towns unknown or he could stir up great fanfare as suited his needs. Eric and Anna Spent the rest of their lives wandering in all the hidden places of the world, crossing seas and mountains alike and meeting races and creatures of every kind. All the while Eric kept to his commission to send word of what he encountered and soon the empire had many volumes of adventures to which he then began publishing under the Romtador chronicles. It is from there chronicles that much of the understanding of the Spliterwood is revealed as Eric and Anna spent nearly two decades exploring the Splinterwood and even fought in the Fallien conflict Earning them the Title Splinter Kin.

I like this! Can't wait to see the figures of Eric and Anna. We will have to talk about the poster. As for the rest, how did you find out about the lingerie? Was it Victoria? It was supposed to be a secret! Hence: Victoria's Secret. Boy, that lady's got a BIG MOUTH!

Wow, I am late to this thread but and I am just reiterating comments that have already shown up in one form or another but, amazing work! The only bad thing is now everyone will be pestering you to make a fantasy version of Temporum Oblitus. I mean you have one race already done right...

Post by aaron on May 23, 2014 7:47:55 GMT -9
well Temporum oblitus ties into a comic called Scrap jack it's another Epic story spanning multiple generations. The game itself is just a backstory for the main character. sooo I probably won't be doing a fantasy version of that one. but this whole Splinterwood thing has definitely taken on a life of its' own. and since some people ,and I won't mention any names, were curious about what the whole continent looked like and how big the world it was on really is *cough*(dungeon mistress)*cough* I took the liberty of creating the continent of Estall where you will find the Splinterwood. the continent is HUGE and the world is even bigger ...obviously ... so here's some other tidbits of info there are 11 continents in all and two of them are as big as africa and asia combined! so as you can see I have created enough world for everyone to play in! ok here's the western hemisphere. this is a huge place and there is SOOOO much room for just about anything! ok this is to help put the size of this place in perspective. ok what do you think ?

Post by aaron on May 24, 2014 12:51:18 GMT -9
so now that you know what the whole world looks like, well half of it anyway. lets get back to the Splinterwoods! as I said before there are 9 tribes of splinterwood elves each holding allegiances to the 10th and royal tribe. the reason the 10 tribe is Royal is because they were chosen by the everlight to be infused with the spirit of the Splinterwood. they are known as the Vuldary or Royals. Many of that tribe were chosen by the Everlight and the spirit of Splinterwood lives in them. some of Vuldary were set to guard the Hart stone which focus this energy. those elves that were set around the stone and not chosen were effected on a deep level. they became wild almost completely ferril. The spirit of the forest almost consuming them. though they act like savage animals they have the spirit of the forest and the heart of the elves and they protect the Vuldary with a savage intensity that is unmatched by any body guard or retinue. they speak little and their senses are much more inhansed than other elves. though they will chase you to the forsts edge they will never leave it. they are almost like a living extention of the king and queens will they are the Ferals. origannly I wanted to make them all topless and waring loincloths but the Queen thought that would be a bad idea and mention we would probably be kicked off the cardboard warrior forum soooo they have tops and other clothing articles.... though I will have a personal file that will be the way I want them .
