The theme for this months HOARD is Heroes! This can be any sort of miniature on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your figures, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of May, 2014. April showers bring May flowers Heroes! I know it's late, but believe it's never too late to create and share. Who is your paper miniature hero?

Thanks, I really find a good theme constrains my thinking enough to let me pick a model and focus on it, no constraints lead to me messing a little with too many project beginnings. On that note lets try to get a set of themes picked for some future hordes (suggestions from me: Robots & clockwork, or maybe 4 legs good 2 legs bad). Now, I guess I need to make some Big Trouble in Little China heroes to go with the villains from a few hordes back... Here comes Jack Burton, and I will make at least one other guy, you know, to do stuff while Jack Burton fails to be a hero (that's why hes one of my favorite heroes).

You are asking for a paper mini of Charles Darwin.

hackbarth: LOL. "We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we" is a line Jack Burton says in the movie "Big Trouble in Little China." Egg Chen also comes from that movie, so I was trying to say I liked the idea of Egg Chen and Jack Burton mini's in a Jack Burton kind of way. Some would certainly agree that Charles Darwin did shake the pillars of heaven.

My first draft of the Big Trouble heroes is done. I still have to clean them up a little, fix a few colors, and shade them, but here is the WIP. If I have time I will do the brides as well. Wang is going to be a little flimsy without a toothpick or rolled paper to reinforce him, but I think it is worth it to have him flipping. Thoughts and comments always appreciated.

I love Wang's pose! His wrist could definitely stand to be thicker. Right now his are half the size of Egg's and Jack's. Actually, he should be just plain scaled up. with his arm "above" his head his foot should be higher than Jack's head, and Egg has his knees really bent, maybe he should scale down 15%?
Maybe an extra thick black outline would strengthen Wang's wrist? We can always insert an extra layer of card.

Yes, Wang should be much taller while doing a handspring. I scaled him down to fit the three of them together. I will adjust and do the outline to see how it looks.

Here is a new version of the Big trouble crew (Now with Hypno-Brides!). I am experimenting with cell style shading, brutal comments are welcome. I will test build everyone tomorrow. I don't expect any problems, except for maybe Wang Chi.

I totally forgot about Abe with the axe. Now I want to do Trudeau in his cape and fedora with a rapier and a rose in his teeth. (I mean the elder Trudeau, obviously. There can be only one!)

squirmydad, the link appears to be from the June "Beasts" Hoard, #118, not the imaged #117 Hoard image, however

Hmmm... site is only marginally alive right now. Maybe when it comes back it'll be updated. I did manage to hit the page once, and the URL I saw associated with that hoard points to file://localhost/FH117-Heroes.zip I was going to try a different browser, but the site isn't responding well enough for me to load the page. squirmydad - I now demand TWICE my money back!!!

It takes some time for the internet to roll downhill from Alaska. See, we're at the top of the world and you're farther down, so the internet, being made of a molasses composite, is controlled by gravity when it comes to updates. That's why hackbarth always gets updates last.

That's why hackbarth always gets updates last. That's true, it's a pain to be in down below, even the seasons takes some 6 months longer to get here, being slower than internet! But don't pity me, Reivaj gets it even worse.

Weird. I had a bad download initially, "zip file corrupted and cannot be opened", but just clicked the link again and it was fine. That was yesterday, just a couple of minutes before I posted here then. Interesting it seems not just to have been me though. Download speeds from OBS were poor within the past half-hour today (2014 July 25) too, but I assumed it was just everyone else also taking advantage of the Christmas in July sale. Maybe something more fundamental though?
Think how bad things could be if Reivaj had to do the Internet fixes though; molasses rolling uphill, pulled by birds migrating north, maybe, so that would only work in the northern springtime...
