Very weird - you should be seeing this " the-lost-and-the-damned.664610.n2.nabble.com " but when I clicked on my posts, it was showing " localhost " in the url box...

Sadly, this doesn't appear to exist anymore. Even the Internet Archive doesn't have much of anything saved on it... For a while I was worried that I'd experienced a Twilight Zone moment because I had actually visited that site yesterday As Zephalo has reported though the site is just sometimes not available from time to time.

It's working for me now - awaiting the completion of the download so I can see what I can glean from the goodies.
Alas, I never got to play this game, and it's unlikely I'll be picking up an old copy save by a miracle of yard-saleing...

Alas, I never got to play this game, and it's unlikely I'll be picking up an old copy save by a miracle of yard-saleing... I was lucky in that I was able to pick up a number of incomplete copies of the game and expansions cheaply over the course of a month or two. When I sorted through everything I was able to put together the complete game with a lot of spare bits left over. My only problem is that being an invalid and not getting out much I can't find anyone to play with.

I'm in a similar boat. I don't get out much and I don't have a car. So I just told everyone that the games would be hosted by me in my tiny home. That's another reason we have potlucks at every game.

I have kids aged 4 and 8. I don't get out much, even with my husband and I trade off who puts them to bed at night, and it's not much easier having people in. I'm hoping to improve that over the summer somehow. Unfortunately I just found out that a new PF game just around the corner from me is already full. At least I'll get in 2-3 games next weekend, tacked onto an anime con here in my hometown. I'm actually thinking very seriously about picking up Song of Blades & Heroes, or at least Fur & Buttons (for kids my older son's age & up) to start out with. Skirmish game, clean and simple rules you can build on, use any minis with (esp. One Monk, as Jim Harman was a collaborator with Ganesha Games), solo and one-on-one available, games lasting half-hour to an hour with campaigns possible... aaaand the rulebooks are only $8 apiece. Although I will wait a week or so to see if they go even cheaper when the Wargames Vault Summer Campaign sale hits... My husband's best friend [TLDR - see below] used to play WH40K, so it'd be an easier hook than D&D or Pathfinder it seems. Of course, when aaron releases Temporum Oblitus, I'll be checking that out. Having a little wargaming under my belt by then can only help, so that I do more than just build the figures and read the fluff. You can skip this part [The Long Version] Joe was to be our DM when we (us & spouses) all decided to start/restart roleplaying a year-and-a-half ago, but he kinda wimped out. He had previous experience, and so was reading up on 4E; later I started reading up on Pathfinder to provide GM relief on occasion but I'd only played tabletop D&D a couple of times as a tween back in 2E days. I picked up Dungeon! to play with our mutual kids; a mistake, since playing that seemed to scratch Joe's dungeon-crawling itch. Thus, I go a-hunting for Pathfinder games until I feel ready enough to GM. With a little dip and a little dap into other systems to play with my older boy this summer vacation. At least I have plenty of figures prepared, tiles made, and scenery to be built!

I had a lot of fun with my kids and Fur and Buttons. Check out the mini's that Sir Rob did for them on this forum.
The one little trick we found (to avoid arguments) was to us map pins to mark which figures had been moved and which were yet to move. When you divide up into little squads and singles you can forget who failed to activate and who you haven't tried to activate. (When you read the rules that will make sense to you.)

Yes, it was Sirrob01 's figures on his blog that first drew my attention to the game last year, and then I became aware of how OneMonk was involved in other Ganesha Games. While the figures are a little chibi for my taste, they certainly suit the game and the audience, and as with all Sirrob01's stuff, very well-crafted. I wonder if he ever finished his Picnic Bears - those could certainly do double in Picnic Adventures! Thanks for the tip - it already makes sense giving the reading that I've been doing about the mechanics of the system. I think I may also do up some markers in gimp for conditions, since the Litko ones look like they'd be helpful, but I'd like to stick to paper where possible.

Parduz did some condition markers for a hoard here once, but I don't think they quite line up. Still a good place to start.

Parduz did some condition markers for a hoard here once, but I don't think they quite line up. Still a good place to start. Found them! in Hoard 87 from 2010. The markers look great, and include Frozen, Stunned, Blessed, Poisoned, Routing (fleeing?), Pinned, Cursed, Burning, Bleeding, and Hidden. Litko has a licensed set including a measuring triangle, and tokens for Wounded, Fallen, and Transfixed. I'm not sure yet what would be needed or not, but I think Parduz' will make a great start. As long as me & my fellow players agree on what they mean for SFB/SBH, they should work for most if not all our needs. If I make foam core bases I could add an extra slot for the marker... very tidy. Thanks cowboyleland! And to you, too, Parduz! Terrific job - will save me lots of time. By the time WarGameVault's Summer Campaign rolls around in a week or three, I'll have all I need crafted and ready to go aaron Since I've managed to hijack your thread, you may as well put it to good use for Temporum Oblitus Keep in mind any game-aids and accessories that you can also design as papercraft - spell effects, condition markers, objective tokens, idunnoreallywhatelsebecausei'mnotawargameryet...

no worries I'm loving this. I started playing warhammer 40k rouge trader when I spent the night at a friends house at 9 years old and I was hooked. My mom didn't like the idea of he little boy getting into war games but my dad is a military commander and was equally hooked, plus he liked the idea of his little boy learning the value of tactics. I don't know how old I was when I came down stairs one Christmas morning to a box of the biggest game I had ever seen. their was this really big Barbarian wielding a sword at me and in the coolest font that ever existed it said Hero Quest. After that every night when my dad got home from work (when he wasn't on deployment) and my friends across the street would come over (we lived in base housing) it was on! we must have played through the original game book twice before my dad come home with Kellars keep ... my addiction was secured I was a gamer and it would never be out of my blood. I now have two complete games of heroquest that I have melded together into one giant game board and I use advances heroquest to get the tiles to make ever expanding side missions and with some of the coolest 3rd party tiles I make even more side campaigns that are every bit as rich and exciting as the main adventure only they are hidden inside the main adventure waiting to be found. in a typical game I have at least 3 side missions that never get found. typically I make about 20 or so. like I said one game can take months. and now my son is getting his friends into it's getting even more intense because we have about 8 players broken into two teams competing for the same goal starting at different places on the map.
on of my favorite Chaos spells I have invented is a trap that teleports the players separately to a different location on the map (typically far away from each-other)and they have to try and find their way back without getting killed.
Temporum Oblitus is going to be similar to WH40k in it's over all style but I have simplified the game play significantly. the rules are going to be as simple as I can make them while still keeping the game cool. I want to make T.O. a troop based game though it does have vehicles I don't want armored companies becuase it kind of ruins the flavor of the game. I don't focus on the wepons as much as the killing LOL that sounds horrable but it's true all units have only 4 stats to worry about. A R D S A= Attack this is close combat damage. R= Range this is shooting (and it's the most complicated part of the game as it should be) D= Defense this is what you use to defend against A&R S= Structure. some units can do structure damage I.E. they have really big guns or what not ready for this if your unit attacks my unit then you take your A and I take my D and we both roll a D6 add it to your A I add my roll to my D and who ever has the highest number is the winner.if you win then I remove however many casualties their are and if win then their are no casualties and it's my turn. then we repeat the process only I get to use my A and you use your D we keep doing that until one unit is wiped out or some one breaks off (though you don't have to and their are significant penalties for most units for breaking combat early) if you want to shoot at me it's exactly the same with the added component of distance. your R is the max range that your gun can shoot and still hit something. so you roll a d6 add it to your R and subtract 1 for ever inch I am away rounding up. then if your final number is higher than my D then that's a dead soldier. some units and vehicles are so heavily armored that they have something called structure points. this means only a unit that can deal structure damage will be able to hurt them. typically those units that can deal structure damage have a template of some kind and it's pretty obvious which units can deal structure damage and which units need to take it. besides how the troops move that's pretty much it. Temporum Oblitus is a deceptively simple game. it's like chess in that it's easy to learn but it has tons of little game changing nuances that aren't apparent until your in the thick of it. like the kill zone. you will find that all ranged units have a kill zone. once they get close enough to a target they wont even have to roll they will just start taking models off the table. so you want to keep your troops out of the kill zone ... unless that's your goal to distract the enemy and keep his/her guns firing on a specific target... it's really a lot of fun I love it and i hope everyone else does to!

Just out of interest, how well do the paper dice roll? Being paper, wouldn't they be a bit light?
