room101 I wish i was busier, but my brain can only handle about 6-8 hours a day of doing job searches/applications before it starts to get fuzzy, you can only clean the house so much before it gets redundant and I'm used to getting only 4-6 hours of sleep a day, so... may as well do something potentially useful..

managed to get these done over the past 2 days: 2 inch wide by 3 inch/ 1-1/2 inch high beam style supports 2 inch wide by 2 inch/ 1 inch high beam style supports 1-1/2 inch wide by 3 inch/ 1-1/2 inch high beam style supports 1-1/2 inch by 2 inch/ 1 inch high beam style supports
Got up early this morning and had 2 hours of work done redoing the Post style pilings page ( with all the Post variations in one PSD file) , getting close to putting the finishing touches on when I changed my mind on how I wanted to organize/save the file breakdowns to separate by height, and accidentally hit ctrl+s and saved the 3" height page over the complete document... AIGHHHH!
I'll get back to this later today probably... but first-- breakfast!

Pilings pages are done and textured and ready for PDF creation, and the fold flat ramp supports are almost ready to be textured.... These will get complicated, as I'm thinking of allowing a choice for both the beam wood tone and also for the pier deck background, so there'd potentially be 90 possible combinations just through those ( including a water layer), not including the differing combinations of algae/moss/stainings....

Decided to take a break from spring cleaning and working on the computer, and built a few pieces to show what's been happening: at the top is a set of four 2"x 6" pier sections, from left to right: Grayish brown, Yellow tone, Medium brown with 2 levels of staining and blotchy moss/algae and streaky algae effects, and at the very right Medium brown with no effects. Center left is a fold flat ramp support for 2 6" ramp with a 2" rise, center right are side attach pilings in Yellow tone with water staining, algae, barnacle and mussel effects and medium brown insert pilings with streaky algae effect. Center bottom is a 3D 2 inch rise ramp support end piece, middle point and cross braces with water level effects applied ( water stains, algae, moss, barnacles and mussels) Here is the yellow tone pier assembled with the side attach pilings, the Brown/gray pier on the bottom insert pilings and the ramp supports assembled to receive their pier sections ( and at the right a ramp secrtion from Fat Dragon's Dock set) On the fold flat ramp section you can see a pier decking/sky backgrounds. here's a picture with the ramps assembled: And a picture of a fold flat ramp with a water/sky background and a picture of a configuration with a ramp section on top of a pier section, giving a rise from a 2" height to a 4" height: And a different mix including a 3" wide pier:

Worked fine for me, albeit huge (53Mb for the piers? Seems like the compression might be wonky on that).

eran, that's the correct size because it includes the pages of 30 degreee and 45 degree junctions as well. They come out at about 18M per page, which is comparable to some of the more complex designs I've got from Dave Graffam and Fat Dragon Games, I'll see what I can do with compression, but i'm working with way outdated software ( CS2) so I'm not sure if it compresses things as well as it can.

The reason I mentioned it was that the Barracks from Mystic Mountain is 74Mb, but its also about 27 pages long. What format are you saving the imagery in?

eran, Unfortunately, due to the limitations of my software, I'm having to save them as PSD's to get them to work with proper transparent backgrounds in my CS2. I've tried using paint.net and GIMP to save them as PNG's, but when I use my InDesign CS2 to import them, the backgrounds are black instead of transparent. Also the barracks from Mystic Mountains doesn't have 17 layers of effects per page between wood tones and differing levels of staining/growth effects.. if you look at each layer as a separate page, just one of the pages in that document for the piers has 60% of the information as the entire Barracks document... or did you miss that there were multiple layers for each page?

eran and @bearneart76 - I can see much of what it is right off the bat when they load: all of the texture options are full-page highres textures. The shapes, including all the "white" space around them is being painted on in a layer. This makes it easy on the artist, but bloats the image files a lot (normally, if the white were on every texture layer, it would all compress out.) I'm betting the pros here can help a new guy out with this little problem... Eh, jjensen, Dave, squirmydad, etc.?

BTW berneart76 - do you already have cutfiles for these pages? If not, I'll make them later tonight...

Thanks for the info squirmydad! and no, I don't have the cutfiles for these...so thank you for taking the time to volunteer to make them!

Do you have access to Adobe Acrobat as a part of the creative suite? There is a function called "Reduce File Size" that compresses the files nicely. I run my individual pages through to keep the file size down.

Thanks squirmydad! I saw that function but wan'r sure how it would affect the quality. I just tried that and it reduced the Piers Preview set down to 23M...

oldschooldm, I'll see about getting a quick pictorial put together to help with the 3D ramp supports , since I'm guessing those were the ones that caused the most issues?

oldschooldm, I'll see about getting a quick pictorial put together to help with the 3D ramp supports , since I'm guessing those were the ones that caused the most issues? Yup. I think at least on interior-cut line should have been a fold, and one was also missing, but I can't be sure without building and/or instructions. We can go over details in PM when I get to building these, probably tomorrow.

oldschooldm-- here is a PSD file that might help clarify the fold and internal cutlines. I'll probably do some tests this weekend to see if removing the black under the score line helps, or I might need to go with a brighter color..

I built it! I like it! More, more more! The quick-and-dirty cutfiles have all been revised and are all packaged together here. (I deleted the in-progress posts) Not all options are supported, so be careful using them. If you want to use other options, I've left enough pieces in there that you can probably get other versions of cutfiles up quickly. (I'm assuming someone will make "real" cutfiles for this kit when it officially comes out...) Piers Pilings and Docks.zip (124.22 KB) Now some pictures! I only build enough pieces to see how the various build options work.... This is a great set and I look forward to getting the final version from RPGNow. But, I do have one question --- What is this for and how do I cut/fold it? The diagram isn't clear to me nor do I see it in build photos so far (I think?) What are these for? by Oracle Omega, on Flickr (A few more feedback items are coming in a PM...) Piers Pilings and Docks.zip (124.22 KB)

I Love the pictures! especially taken next to Fat Dragon's Dragon Ship! Helps reinforce that I've got my proportions right for the sizes I've settled on using. As for the part you have circled in red, that is the band that wraps around the ramps to act as a stop.. fold the long sides in towards the middle and then make the 4 side folds, wrap around the pier section and then make the opposing cuts on the bottom side. they can be seen in this post
Here's a closeup of a finished one: And I made a separate thread with more detailed assembly instructions: Harbor/Wharves ramp anti slip bands
