It's been a busy week for me on the job search front and trying to figure out a more efficient way of doing the 2 inch ad 1 inch high fold flat ramps, and back to my original design, so I'm going to try to get those PDF conversion ready by the weekend, and then have the stairs/ladders done over the weekend...

Vermin King, Job hunt has been better in the last 48 hours than in the past 3 months, have had 3 phone interviews, have 2 in person interviews on the 15th, and an old co-worker from 8 years ago personally recommended me and submitted my resume for what would almost be my ideal job. hopefully he can impress his manager to interview me, and I can impress him during the interview to land it.

Still working here, but my #1 agent working for me has been the victim of his securities broker dealer forcing him to be captive. He's now working on moving to a new BD, but his business (and my overrides) are on hold. Fortunately, the new company overpaid me last week, and that will have to result in a reduced pay off new business for a while, but the extra funds came in handy

lol, I didn't understand most of that, but it sounds like you're doing OK, which is what I wanted to hear. (Sorry for the off topic, I'm done now.)

lol, I didn't understand most of that, but it sounds like you're doing OK, which is what I wanted to hear. (Sorry for the off topic, I'm done now.) Whew! I'm glad it's not just me, as I didn't really understand that either. Keeping my fingers crossed that things work out for both of you guys and you keep/gain employment. There have been massive budget cuts in my city every year, and every year we get reviewed and receive a positive evaluation, but we run a pretty lean department already. However, in 3-5 years (or less) there will be several theatre technician jobs opening up in my department as the old timers finally retire out. I realize that doesn't help you right now, but do let me know if there is something I can do to help your situations.

Page layout for the 3 inch long by 3 inch and 1.5 inch wide ramp supports. this page holds (from top to bottom) 1 inch height, 1.5 inch height and 2 inch height fold flat ramp supports: At this point the following steps are taken: 1. make wood grain texturing overlay 2.make the 9 color variations for the wood beams 3. make the 9 deck color variations backdrops 4. make the water level backdrop 5. make the under ramp shading overlay 6. make the Sky backdrop for the 2 inch high version 7. make the 2- moss/algae beam texturing overlays 8. make the water level staining, the water level dark and bright algae , the barnacle and the mussel texture overlays. 9. make the overlay to reduce down to a 1.5 inch width Once this is done then it is on to the 2 inch wide version of this sheet... After that is is then onto the stairs/ladders sheet, a sheet with internal bracing for the deck sections/3D ramp support cross pieces/safety brake bands and then the platforms.. Then go back to some earlier completed parts and review and correct some issues oldschooldm identified when he was a making the cutfiles for the previews I've released. Convert everything to PDF's, make some pieces, put together an instruction/ideas booklet and submit to having it published! The end is getting in sight! If any one has any ideas/suggestions I'm open to them. I'm not to sure about combining different ramp heights on the same sheet, but I think it makes the best use of a sheet of paper...

I've actually been a bit busy since my last post on this, in a good way. Been having quite a few follow ups with recruiters and a few phone interviews and one in person interview for a new job, so preparing for all that was continuously interrupting anytime I tried to work on the 3 inch and 1.5 inch wide fold flat ramp supports for 3 inch long platforms. Finally ahd a day without distractions, so was able to get them finished up, now on to the 2 inch wide versions of the same. Ready for PDF conversion, the 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 2 inch high fold flat ramp supports for 3 inch long by 3 inch and 1.5 inch wide pier sections:

I've got the last of the fold flat ramps completed and ready for PDF conversion, these are the 2 inch wide sets for 3 inch long deck sections. Now onto something a bit less repetitive, working on Stairs, ladders, and some net/spanish moss pieces to hang over the edges. After that, then it is some work on platforms for buildings and as dockside/breakwater/levees and this set is almost ready for release.

So, I've been working on the stair concepts, I think I have them almost ready for texturing. I'm going with my idea from earlier to provide stair sections that can be assembled in different configurations. ( the thought/development can be found in these posts: Original Concept: , Development to sectional stairs ) I've thought about it, and came up that 1 inch and 1.5 inch heights would work well, and at 1 inch and 1.5 inch wide widths. That way, if you need to go to 2 inches in height, you use 2- 1 inch height sections, if you want to go to 3 inches you can use 3-1 inch or 2-1.5 inch sections. If you want 2 inch wide stairs, put 2-1 inch wide sections side by side, if you want 3 inch wide you can put 2-1.5 inch wide sections side by side, etc.. So here is a test layout, this will change since I think I'm going to add the fold under part from the original concept back in for stiffening/etc: Here are the 1 inch wide by 1 inch high stair pieces with the support cut out: and then folded , ready to glue: and here are some pieces glued together, from the top a 1 inch wide, 1 inch tall section with a 1 inch wide, 2 inch tall support, in the middle a 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall section with a 1 inch wide, 1 inch tall support, and at the bottom a 1.5 inch wide by 1 inch tall section with support: Here are the 1 inch wide and 1.5 inch wide sections on their 1 inch tall supports: And the we have 2 inch inch wide sections put together with 1 inch and 2 inch high supports to make a 2 inch tall straight staircase, and a right angle staircase: I'm going to be working on the layouts for these tonight yet, and hopefully be able to start texturing them tomorrow.

Due to extremely nice weather all weekend, it took a bit longer to get the layouts for the stairs worked out, but here is where things stand. Layouts for 1 inch wide by 1 inch High stairs and 1 inch wide by 1.5 inch high stairs, for the 1 inch high set I can get 4 per page, everything else gets 2 per page. 1 inch high by 1 inch wide: 1 inch high by 1.5 inch wide: I inch wide supports, on this sheet I managed to fit 2-1 inch high, 2-1.5 inch high, 2-2 inch high and 1 -3 inch high supports for the stairs. Then we get the 1.5 inch wide sets, at 1 inch high and 1.5 inch wide: These can use the 1inch high, 1.5 inch high, 2 inch high and 3 inch high - 1.5 inch wide ramp supports: Will be working on details, texturing and coloring for these this week, and hopefully getting to the ladders/nets/spanish moss as well. I've got ideas for 2 different styles of wooden ladder, 3 types of rope ladders/climbing ropes and some spanish moss/nets that will be a 90 degree fold at the top to hang over the edge.

I've got the 1 inch high by 1 inch wide stairs and the 1 inch wide supports all textured and ready for PDF conversion, the next 3 sets should go quicker. These get to be time consuming doing all the different wood graining for the planks, etc and then doing all the different color layers. Especially on the supports, doing all 9 color layers for the beams, and then to get the 11 layers for the inserts took 14 layers combined to get each color variation of the decking and water and sky... So here are, from the top row, left to right, 1 inch high support, water level with all sorts of algae/growth/staining layers, a 2 inch water level support with a few less layers, and a 3 inch support with a deck layer. the deck layer inserts are different on each side, one side has it if you are looking down the length of the pier, the other ahs if you are looking across the width. Then we start building up... starting with a 1 inch height: then going to a 2 inch height.. Finally we get to the 3 inch height.. Still trying to push myself to possibly have this ready for release by the end of May, but we'll see... sometimes I get in a funk and things don't work right so i take a break from it

Initial ladder concepts worked up, still working a bit on a round post one (possibly)... Will be working on the page layouts for these over the rest of the weekend. Concept one layout with wood graining- the part to the left is to rest on top of a pier section: Cutout.. . Inner sides folded over, (tread cuts also visible from the back) All folded, sides folded at 90 degrees, treads folded in, deck overlay folded over They can be cut a little longer to lean at a slight angle: Or cut to an exact height o go straight up: 2 different styles, one straight sided, one wider at the bottom than the top: (they will hold a papercraft miniature at least, not too sure about a metal miniature)

Those are very intricate. And delicate. I guess I'll have to rethink my storage solution (currently known as "sling them in that there box til next game"). I think they're brilliant.

Don't worry room101, I'll have some simpler, easier versions as well. I just find it easier to come up with the complex designs first, and then use those as a basis for simpler versions, rather than starting simple and then getting frustrated trying to make simple versions. I'm thinking about using the main designs This is also the approach I'll use for the rope ladders, as those will be thinner in concept anyways. Quick, simple ladder versions, Print.. Cut.... Score and fold... Glue and play!

Ah, it is by no means a complaint my friend. I think I shall certainly be using the complex ones- especially for the town photographs. Simpler ones are a great idea though.

This whole set has developed to be as multi use as possible, and to give people options. I feel the simple designs such as for the ladders and the fold flat ramp supports are an added feature, for those who don't want the time/hassle of putting together the more complex 3D designs, and for those times when you just need to put something together in a rush.
