Khairul Hisham (Hishgraphics) - who you might know from his (free) Star Wars minis - is also running a Patreon campaign for his fantasy range. Pay per set of minis that he produces. Like the Star Wars ones they have no backs, but it is worth checking out for the freebies he has published so far if nothing else. Including most recently a set of elves.

Printed off the free set of elves to see how they worked out. They are actually scaled to be about 50mm tall so I re-printed them at 80% to match up with my other figs. They are designed to fit to the rectangles on the sheet, which makes the pose a bit static, but I like them. You can see three in the pic below cut and edged by myself, along with the other three from the set as the deigner originally intended (if only 80% the height!!!) They may not have any backs, but I like the style, so think I may back his patreon campaign. (Not that I don't already have too many figures waiting to be printed and cut or anything......)

Since signing up to his Patreon page I have discovered these are the 150dpi version of this set. For "Mariner" level patrons and above here is a set of 300dpi elves with shadowing etc. I liked these ones, the others are even better.

The ( best ) differences are clearly evident in every fantasy ( patreon ) sets. Also in this case ... it's a pity that the author isn't interested in drawing the back art.

Front only is so much faster, I totally get it. I could triple my output if I did front only.

It's the same with the guy behind the Printable Heroes blog - if we keep pressuring them maybe we can encourage them to start doing backs for them as well.... Be easier to apply that pressure as a patron though I thought.... (Being the lazy sod I am I have also put in a request for minis with black borders too!!)

Imho. For some reason it is sufficient only the front art, for many more rear art would make it complete ( perfect ). Imho again. eg: Printable Heroes has many gorgeous sets. I would prefer a third of them with the back art ( half would be better )

Be easier to apply that pressure as a patron though I disagree. Patronage is about supporting an artist for their current work, not about hoping to change them. It's simple, I sign up as a patron for artists whose work I currently consume, not 'hope to consume'. If he doesn't want to do backs/borders, that's up to him. The only 'pressure' I can apply is to state my preferences to the artist and market, not be a pesky patron threatening withdrawal of support after the fact. Please, don't do that to your artists. You're right. But I think Mike's post is not as stiff as you have interpreted. I'm sorry. We all know that patreon is not a purchase. The name says it all. Just as we know that kickstarter is not a pre-order purchase. One of my patreon not publish new material for months, but I support his potential, not his products. But if an artist asks preferences, why not tell them? It0s just happened with Printable Heroes now. Author asked if someone was interested in changes paper minis. Someone answered it, and now there is a new elven bards' set. I think that nobody likes to change an artist's personal characteristics. Is they that we enjoy him and his artworks. But, in my opinion, we must also go into detail as well as on the general principle that I think everyone shares, we are now talking about a black border instead of a white for a paper mini. I don't think this would affect the spontaneity and the quality of the artist. This is just my personal thought. It is not intended as a criticism or a flame towards different opinions. Rightly, as you say yourself too, express own preferences about some particulars I don't think it is evil, but no one has threatened a withdrawal of support due to own preferences.

Rest assured that my comment above was meant very much tongue in cheek! I had already decided to become a patron of Khairul's - having downloaded so many of his Star Wars minis for free over the years I already feel I have had my "money's-worth". Whether he chooses to do backs or borders is entirely up to him - I am more than happy to keep using his minis without.
